• Emulator used: FCEUX 2.0.3
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
A whoppin' 20 seconds of gameplay! This game is nice and has good music.
Train Station: First and shortest level so also the easiest one, but it does have a similar looking guy to Waldo 2 steps under him so it's a little tricky.
Forest: Wood levels are probably my favorite kind of levels.
The Cave: It's dark and Waldo is hiding but don't be fooled because he is still easy to find.
The Fairground: I had to find him on his pants so he would hide in a different spot on the next level.
The City: Waldo is far down the street here. I think he is using a skateboard so maybe that's why.
The Subway: This is the only level where I take damage to save time. I also wait a few frames after grabbing Waldo's glasses to change his spot on the next level.
The Castle: Man, Waldo is really far away here. He is also wearing blue which I think is a bad choice of him because green would have made him harder to find.
The Launchpad: I don't like having to wait here. Maybe you can manipulate the Waldos here but I tried and I couldn't.
My only complaint about this game is that the story makes no sense. I understand that Waldo likes to blend in with the crowd, but why is he going to the moon in the end? Is he too afraid of people noticing him that he decides to hide on the moon? It would be a great hiding spot, but where would he get food and water? Maybe he packed that stuff on his rocket ship, but judging from the rockets suprised look, I doubt it. Also, I don't think the fishbowl on his head and the tin-foil wrapped around his body will protect him from pressure. He is so naive little boy.

mmbossman: Unsurprisingly people don't find this interesting. Rejecting. It may be helpful to you to search for previous submissions of a game in the future Fladdermus, so that you can see if the audience has found a game appealing. Or, if you want to improve your TASing skills and increase your chances of a publication, try to improve one of the movies published in 2004.

adelikat: Unrejecting this submission for consideration into the Vault tier, and claiming for judging

adelikat: Accepting for publication to the Vault. This movie passes the minimum criteria needed to distinguish it from realtime play, and is at least complex enough that several improvements have been found.

I appreciate your run, but this isn't very entertaining. This game doesn't make for a very good TAS run at all. Long boring and unskippable cutscenes really ruin it. I'm sure you can put your efforts into crafting a TAS run of a much better game.

Can Waldo's spot for each level be manipulated?

Neat idea, but sadly, a very bad game choice.

I thought I played this game once. It was boring for me to even play through the first stage. Meh vote.

Another post nthing bad game choice. Usually, if it shows up on a page like Something Awful's ROM Pit review collumn, it's not something to TAS.

It almost got -50 too. Voted no. I watched it, and most time was spent waiting for Waldo to walk around in the overworld, excepting the driving maze thing.

Weird timing. I was just about to do another run of this game to see if I could manipulate Waldo to be right under the cursor every time. It would be an interesting technical achievement, though still not an interesting movie. At any rate, I suspect that this run is improvable... at least in terms of length. Not in terms of entertainment. In that regard, the game is beyond help.

It'd be worth doing for the sake of novelty, kind of like the king's bounty video but not as dramatic.

Wow, a Where's Waldo run. Wow. I knew this game was trash when I was eight and played it on a rental. I had C64 games that were immensely better made. Thanks for the movie, but No, for the same reasons as the others listed. Also, tangentially: "I had to find him on his pants" -- this made me giggle, and I thought it merited mention.

Opening this up to re-judging. I personally would like even the Vault to have higher standards than this game. But where's the line? And how would I define it as such? Am I wrong?

well this one is hard to judge, as it fits the vault rules but is seriously impacted by the entertainement value...

Isn't this exactly what the vault is for? I don't think entertainment factor should have any impact on a vault run. That goes against what the vault is supposed to be for.

Entertainment isn't dealt with at all. The point was: Do we really accept LITERALLY ANY game, or still reject the games that provide no room for improving the gameplay? If there's nothing to improve, there's no room for a RECORD. Moving the pointer 50 pixels right and 10 pixels down doesn't provide the gameplay record in my eyes. Are we about following the letter of a motto? Or we still want it to make sense? Either rephrase it then, or accept this run.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

The previous submissions were 2:28.93 and 2:27.47, and on YouTube there's a 2:25.67 run. By contrast, this run is 2:12.50, which is quite a significant difference from all of the above. Does that mean anything towards the technical merit of this run in particular, compared to the other ones? If so, that might warrant publication for this run.

Oh wow, this game IS actually improvable. This means someone may TAS it succesfully. Definite accept :D

"A TAS of the game must be distinguished enough from a real-time speedrun".

If people actually are beating each others' times on this game, then I suppose it could be published.
