After a long wait, here is the next work-in-progress for the Oracle of Ages run. The real reason I hadn't been posting any WIPs lately was because I've been, in secret, re-doing the run from the start. I simply wasn't satisfied with the level of optimisation in my first attempt, so after re-doing it with new time-savers and routes, I managed to save 940 frames, or 15.67 seconds. So anyone who wants to watch this should watch the entire thing, and not just fast-forward through the first two dungeons. VBM: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/893560708/OoA%20CI.vbm
I encodet the WIP (.avi in h264, size:72.18 MB), so that everyone can watch it ;) http://www.mediafire.com/?co4ybmnmd3m (sound problem fixed) Edit: there was a little sound problem. The Problem is fixed now.

Nice AVI, appreciated. Do you think you could do this for all of my WIPs? It might cause more interest for this run to arise. Anyways, I'm partway through the third dungeon, expect a WIP in the coming days...

I have been on the lookout for a run of Ages and what I see thus far is quite good. I will continue to monitor the progress of this run.

Awesome job with the TAS so far, SL. The part between the 2nd and 3rd dungeon feels awfully boring (imo), but it's doesn't really matter since the run is going to pick up the pace a lot in the actual 3rd dungeon and just about everything after that, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just make it's optimized and it'll surely get published.

Swordless, Soulrivers and I have restarted Oracle of Seasons because we found some improvements in it=P. Swordless has been distracted with Ocarina of Time, hopefully he will continue though =P.

I don't know if I should make OoS an actual project of mine. I'd then have three projects (OoT, OoA and OoS). I might just help Tompa and Soulrivers solve the manipulation problem they were having, but I guess if they want me to do the whole run with them I would. Up to them though.

How appropriate.

Haha, good one Omnipotent :D. Well, if you work with Seasons along with us, that means less time for OoT and OoA, and I want to see those runs :). So it's maybe better to do this for ourselves.

Probably a request, and a repeated one from me at that... ...But one of these games really needs a second quest, Ganon beating, run done. (New Game+ or otherwise.) Just thought I would try again to plant the seed of the idea whilst you are talking about restarting.

There aren't really a lot of things that differ. Most of the run will be the exact same thing, only longer. And that isn't enough, at least I don't think so, to have it's own catergory. Someone can do one and submit it "just for fun". But I doubt it will be published.

True. Though my initial reaction as I read that was having one of the games killing Ganon as standard. Not a big deal, like you say not huge differences, but having Onyx as a last boss compared to Ganon just seems a tad anti-climatic to me.

If so it should be Second Quest only. And I really doubt that Swordless would like to redo all what he has done ;D.

Here is a little WIP (thats what its called i think) i put togehter tonight. Its up until the end of the first dungeon, in about 10 minutes and 38 seconds. I'm sure there is a few problems with it but overall its pretty good id say. This run was played on visualboyadvance 1.9.3 for all of you using the vbm file, and it was played on Zelda: Oracle of seasons (U) [!]. Here is a download for the .zip file. The zip comes with the Avi, and the vbm file. Download here (scroll down and click on free, then wait for the download to start):http://rapidshare.com/files/86673233/Oracle_of_Seasons_WIP.zip.html I don't have school next thruday or friday, so on friday im going to try a complete TAS of seasons. I've got the stradigy guide ,so i can cut out all of the crap (compass and that stuff) and use just the fastest way to pass the dungeon. I'm hoping this will be under 2 hours, but most likely 2 and a half to 3 (we'll see though).

The speedrun at SDA completes with a time of 2:06, so a TAS should go plenty below 2 hours. You might also want to check out dezbeast's wip back on page 19.

Ok thanks for the advice, i was thinking under 2 hours as well, but i like to get everything when i run this game in real time so it takes me 4-6 hours, so i was unsure how long a tas would be. Thanks for pointing out a WIP as well, looking through 23 pages for information is a hard thing to do lol. Just watched it and wow! It gave me a lot of good ideas, thanks for pointing that out! Just a few questions: Is it possible to countinue recording from a video that has already been started, so i dont have to do the whole game in one sitting? How do you walk arcoss the pits without falling into them?

Dez's WIP is outdated, but it reached further than the one Soulrivers and I posted awhile ago, which went up to dungeon 2. And then SwordlessLink found some improvements in the beginning of the game so we decided to redo again and are now stuck in level 1 because of manipulation. You should play with frame advance during the whole run. Read the FAQ to learn more. Also, when you are posting WIPs, please do it with Microstorage instead. You can check the input in VBA to see how to do the pitwalk. If you are going left/right you need to press something like this: Hold left all the time. Press Up, only left, down, only left, up, only left, down, only left. etc.

So you suggest using frame advance everywhere instead of only using it in certin spots (like the pit walk and such).

He suggests using it whenever it leads to better results. :p

I see lol =P Ill keep that in mind for the tough parts, but i prefer using slo-mo at 25% in most parts.

Working with this game will be like working with SM64 that you started with. Without frame-advance, you'll never end up with the amount of precision that is expected from many of the members. If you absolutely cannot stand frame advance, use the slowest possible setting (ie 2 or 3% if I remember VBA correctly) for basically everything.

Ok thanks, ill do that then, because frame advance i just can't get the hang of it. I either don't have the right things pressed when i hit advance, or i advance 2 or 3 frames and it screws me up. I guess ill have to start practicing my frame advance.
