The playback of this run comes to a speedy end by means of many glitches and using JPN rom. This rom can show the message quickly than others. They'll allow to complete this game within an hour. All of the glitches and some techniques I used are only existing one. I deeply appreciated people's great discoveries and researches.
Incidentally, this run was made as just amusing movie for Japanese video site. After the putting on view in the site, I was proposed trying to submit to TASVideos. So this run contains some joking factors, slow parts and going through old route. That's why It'll able to be clipped several minutes off the records in the run.
However, as a result of thinking, I decided to submit because I won't try again in the near future. Although opinions may vary on using JPN rom, I hope you like it.

The following glitches and techniques are mainly used:
  • Escape forest with water jumpslash ESS
  • Skip the owl with Deku Stick
  • Get Gold scale in childhood
  • Skip Door of Time
  • Steal Rod
  • Bottle Adventure
  • Skip Gerudo Bridge with Hookshot
  • Skip Ganon's Castle Trials with Bomb Hovering
  • SS to Ganon to keep Master Sword

adelikat: The ending input was way longer than necessary. I chopped it and replaced the movie file. This movie is sub 1 hour!

mmbossman: The two main goals of this site are to provide entertaining movies which are typically as fast as possible. However, sometimes one facet takes more precedence than the other. We have several well optimized movies which are less than entertaining to watch, and we have some that have known improvements but have been published because they are very entertaining. Usually these known improvements are small, however the improvements they provide to the previously published movie are usually small as well. Here, the improvement is clearly much more substantial.
So that leads us to two possible solutions: 1) accept this run for what it is, an entertaining run with some flaws that obsoletes one of the two runs we currently have which can be beat in real time, or 2) reject it due to known improvements and mildly suboptimal level of play. After reading through all the responses in the discussion thread, I feel it better benefits the site and our viewers to accept and publish this run. Do I wish this run integrated some more of the known tricks which have been pointed out? Sure I do. However I don't believe that it is a wise decision to await a "perfect" run which may never come, while in the mean time continuing to have a run published which is worse than a real time run. So I am accepting this submission.
This acceptance will not result in a change of policy regarding (U) ROMs being preferable to (J) ROMs. Any future improvements should use the (U) ROM, and any resulting time lost due to slower text screens will not be used to penalize that submission, just as any time gained from faster text screens was not factored into the judging decision for this run.

Aktan: Processing... (taking forever to audio sync it)

EZGames69: For anyone planning on encoding this in the future. Make sure you use the same plugins that are listed, especially the input plugin as using the wrong one can cause a desync. And also make sure "Raw Data" is checked in the plugin settings for the input plugin. and finally for the RSP plugin, make sure you select "set to process alists inside the rsp". That should be all.

Saying more than just "no" or "yes" would be helpful. Swordless, I'd be particularly interested in your rationale, given your familiarity with the game.

Voting yes so that Swordless won't be able to submit one of the largest improvements in the history of the site in the fall of 2014. Edit: In all seriousness, the old TAS must be removed. I watched about 10 minutes of this and it was on the low end of boring. It's far better than the old one, and saying that "a new run will come" has happened before, and in certain cases, the new run hasn't happened.

To the No people, basically this would mean that you think since Duke Nukem Forever will be the greatest FPS of all time, no FPS can be released until DNF is released.

That's what I was trying to point out, sorry for being a passive aggressive bitch. I will probably have more to say once I manage to watch the movie :)

seriously, I don't know, what to say about this TAS. it has 200k rerecords, but it obviously is not really optimized. from watching it, I was able to see many many improvements. even some sidehops are unoptimized ;) the route is always far away from being optimal. he also seems to ignore all the tricks, I've discovered like hookshot skip for example. yet alone by using the optimal route he could have saved 3-4 minutes 200k rerecords tells me, that he at least tried his best to gives us a fucking awesome run. he had just not enough experience to fully optimize this game ;) it's of course way better than guano's run or JNQ's run, but it is also far away from being 100% optimized. EDIT: as I've read sgrunt's message to swordless link, where he says, that he wants to hear, why someone could vote no, I'll list some stuff here: - first off, the author used a bad route. he also didn't include some of the new tricks. he should have skipped the hookshot and got magic bean as child instead via my zora's river early trick. going to lake hylia to get a bottle is also not the best option for a bottle. - bad luck manipulation overall. he could have saved a shitload of time at the rupee route. then the peahat superslide was also really suboptimal executed. he even used normal walking in this place - many bad angles - even some unoptimized sidehops - should have gotten more bomb drops in the adult route, so he could have add some crazy stuff like my new "semi-Hyper Endless Superslide" trick or just some more superslides I could list some more stuff, but this should be enough

For the most part it's Japanese and could still be faster vs more optimal than the previous run and the old run needs to be updated. I voted yes, but I have a few questions, as I haven't completely kept up with OoT tricks. (I figure these are related, but just incase not, I'll ask all my questions): 1) How does Link regain the Master Sword, buys Arrows and is able to play some of the songs? 2) What is the purpose of letting go and catch the bugs? 3) How is the Poacher's Saw related to having all the Medallions so Zelda appears (or at least the Shadow/Spirit ones)? I've seen most of the tricks and I noticed myself a few improvements that could be made, but I'm really curious about the above 3 questions. Also, I think this run could be used as a "temporary published run" until the run everyone is waiting for is completed. It would at least be more representable than the current published run, though this being Japanese and breaking a few rules makes it debatable.

If this run is accepted, I feel like that the mario64 run (or any other huge TAS project) won't have any more raeson to keep working on the US version. There not enougt effort in this run... voting for gruefood delight, since there is few funny moment.

Correction: JNX. I will crap myself the day that JXQ submits an OoT run. EDIT: As for the run itself, I've only been able to watch the first 30 minutes on nicovideo (not because it cut out, because I ran out of time), and from what my untrained eye saw, it was entertaining. I feel like there are two arguments that seem to crop up here really often: "Video X is super entertaining, how can it not be accepted???" and "Video Y is entertaining but it's not optimal, so I immediately don't like it!!!". From my standpoint, I can watch this run twice in the same time as I could watch Guano's run. It does use a (J) ROM, which is unfortunate, however the (U) before (J) rule was instituted to avoid arguments over which version was "better" (stemming from Phil [Hitler no Fukkatsu] vs. JXQ [Bionic Commando]). Given that the currently published run is one of a very few of our movies that can be beaten easily by an unassisted speedrun, I would say that *any* submission which improves it should be published, due to it being immensely better than what we have now (note that JNXs submission was rejected not for imprecision, but for also being beaten by an unassisted speedrun). So: Half as long + moderate level of precision to the average viewer + and not beaten by an unassisted player (that I'm aware of)= Publishable. Is it perfect? No. But to everyone who continues to promise a new OoT run sometime (July of this year? I won't hold my breath), this is it. We have a new OoT run, and it's here now.

1, 2, and 3 are part of a memory manipulating glitch called Reverse Bottle Adventure. By getting a Bottle on B and having a specific item like the Poacher's Saw on C-Right when you let go and catch the bugs, you can manipulate the memory to get a (glitched) Quiver, various songs, and various Medallions.

Also, for anyone who is curious about why I'm for accepting this run, please reference this post, and the entire thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=222483#222483 In a nutshell: People get pissed off when the admin staff reject a good movie because of possible improvements, and yet in this thread, people are using that for a reason for rejection. Can't have it both ways people.

I'll add that in the case of MM4, much of the controversy could be attributed to there being known improvements (additional glitches and the like that were not taken into consideration) despite the general standard of play matching or exceeding that of its predecessor. This is why I'm keen to hear specific criticism of this run; how good or how bad is it in terms of stock game play than Guanobowl's old run?

look at the things I posted above ;) it turns out, that not just swordless knows something about OoT TASing, so there are other people, that can criticize a TAS of this game :P

Keep in mind that there are published runs that already break site rules to begin with. For instance Mega Man 2 & 3 use the Japanese version only for the faster title screen. Besides, No movie can ever be perfect. If it looks terrible, then they would try to improve it themselves. Sometimes you would have to steer them into the forums but it shows that they at least care for the reputation of this site.

I'd be happier to see this run published: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=222483#222483 Goals of "less than an hour" are nice, but I really hate the idea of "screw the (U) rules, this run is faster!" Many RPGs on this site could be faster with (J), and some might break hour barriers. The only reason most people appear to be voting yes is that "OLD RUN is OLD" (lolcat). So, lets take the 1:20 improvement, and not fux0r the rules for the sake of an outdated movie. Accepting a (J) movie makes future improvement-comparisons impossible. I'm voting No, because it uses the (J) rom, for the exact reason the "Don't use the (J) rom" rule was created. Seriously, if we are willing to accept a subpar run, lets accept the one that follows the rules, even if it isn't perfect. Is anyone else with me on this? Resurrect JNX's submission, and reject this.

It uses the (J) ROM because the TASer is Japanese, not because of faster text. Get your facts correct before posting DK :-)

Umm.... it was published, because people complained when it was rejected. We now have an addendum of the rules for improvements that are found during the making of a movie because of that submission.

Except JNX's submission broke the rules as well, it was longer than an unassisted run. Given two runs, one of which can be beaten by a kid with a controller, and one which uses a secondary ROM, I'll go with the ROM choice.

Well I can't watch this. Nicovideo craps out on me and I can get the TAS to synch in mupen but with frame buffer enabled it only runs at 7FPS and that is really unwatchable. So I'll hold my final vote for an encode. But just some food for thought: If we except this run the default language for all future OoT runs will become japanese, since the rules say we can't change languages unless for a good reason and we couldn't really time the difference. So swordless and co. will most likely TAS this game in japanese. If you don't have a problem with that accept this game. But don't come whining when the new OoT TAS is in japanese in half a year.

Since I'm a longtime lurker, I'll use one of my extremely rare posts in defense of this movie. I agree with the sentiments stated in this thread and that of the N64 OOT thread that there are major improvements that can be done to this movie but this movie is created and ready for publication. It may not be up to the top end of what is possible but it does improve upon a movie that has already been published by this site. Can it be improved, yes but when will that improvement occur? That is the crux of my argument. For the layman such as myself who watches these movies for the enjoyment and art that the creator makes, this improvement will be a great deal better than the previous one by GuanoBowl. Would I be able to discern that there are improvements? No. Would I still enjoy this movie to see what can be done with a Time Attack? Yes. If my memory serves me correctly, the reason why the GuanoBowl TAS is still on this site is that the emulator is not up to snuff and there are many technical issues with the emulator that causes time attacks to be cumbersome. With this encumbrance, I can accept that the movie may not be up to snuff but the difficulties in creating this movie counterbalance and offset the skill. Strangely enough, I went back to the original thread where the GuanoBowl TAS was discussed. The same discussion that was brought up by other members is being rehashed here. There were improvements in that TAS with improvements that should have started that fall/winter but sadly were not completed. I think the best way to end this is with a post from FODA.
FODA wrote:

Making a 2 hour run is hard work, and not only new tricks are found during the making of it, but the player himself will learn how to play the game with better optimization. If the player restarts everytime a mistake is found, he has to often remake everything, since editing early parts of the video isn't possible without desyncing. I hope that clears things up. This isn't the last OoT TAS there will be, it's the first one.

The way this is worded sounds like "The Japanese rom shows the text faster, and that allows the game to be done under 1 hour." This is my interpretation of "show the message quickly than others." However, it may actually bring the text boxes up faster? Any OoT experts want to comment on that?

And I'd go for the non-(J) ROM. I guess that comes down to the decision of the ju.... you.

? Japanese doesn't bring the text boxes up faster, but since in japanese one sing is one word the text is way shorter and this way you have fewer boxes and characters that need to be drawn.

I think having a good run on the site is a good reason to switch to the J rom. (I think having a better run on the site down the road that I can read is a good reason to switch back.) I happen to think this is a good run. Well, what I saw of it anyway. Nicovideo blew up about half way through for me too. I'm waiting for one of the goodly people here to upload an encode somewhere before dropping my vote in, but unless play really drops off in the second half, I'm voting yes.
