Bobby's World is a platformer for the SNES. The character idea was created by Howie Mandel for some reason. Anyways this movie completes the game in less than 10 and a half minutes, taking damage and killing really ugly bosses.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: snes9x-rr 1.51 v6
  • Completes fast as possible
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Cleans a room
  • Eats too many lollipops and gets a cavity

Comments

I started this a few weeks ago. This is a really obscure game, and that is why I love it. At the start of every screen I jump to gain maximum speed as quick as possible. You may notice how I sometimes seem like I am avoiding lollipops, this is because sometimes when I land I get a landing lag and get 15 speed instead of 16 (max running speed). Of course I made it so I only get the lag when it is completely unavoidable (happens once).

Stage by stage comments

Space Level

Run, jump, eat, damage, fly, kill, repeat.

Under The Bed

Only notable thing is me grabbing the pipe twice which is unavoidable.

Underwater Level

Hardest part to optimize in the game, I dealt with it with great precision though :)

Cowboy Level

Run, jump, eat, damage, fly, kill, repeat.

Haunted Closet

Whenever I stop and swing on the pole it is needed, unfortunately it looks really slow, but it had to be done :(
I only know of 1 frame at the start in the menu, but unfortunately it cannot be hexed in.
Enjoy and make sure to clean your room!

I want to kick that facial expression of his of his face, and whoever voiced him needs to be shot. Good run tho, yes vote.

Nice run. It was basically a walkathon, but a well executed one at best. Yes Vote from me!

Just watched this... It is fun and entertaining enough to deserve a yes vote. And, as you can expect, an encode from me is on its way. I will edit this post later (much later, probably). Sgrunt, if you're reading this, should I set the Aspect Ratio to be 43 even if the resolution is 256x224? It would look badly wrong if stretched in that way.

Yes. The console would do exactly the same thing, and it is the site standard. EDIT: I just finished watching this. I don't really see the appeal; it's not particularly fast paced and there's nothing particularly novel in the game play. This earns a definitive Meh.

In the end I decided to make a new post for clarity. Here is the encode: http://www.archive.org/download/bobbysworld-tas-kyman/bobbysworld-tas-kyman.mkv. Two things to note. 1. I couldn't set the aspect ratio to 4:3, I tried to mux it three times, but it always ended up being 299:224 (while with 4:3 it should be 298.6). I asked Sgrunt and apparently it's an acceptable rounding error. 2. The level artist should be shot for the massive use of red and violet which make the h264 compression suffer a lot. As a result the file is quite big to provide an acceptable quality.

Thanks for the encode, Noob Irdoh! In the vertical water level, you stopped to grab a full health refill. But you'd passed up several health refills earlier that wouldn't have taken any time, and you took damage during the previous autoscroller level that you could easily have avoided. So that stop seems unnecessary. Otherwise, I basically agree with sgrunt's analysis. This isn't a good game choice. Meh.

All damage I take is necessary to keep moving. It may not seem like it but it is true. You are correct on the health thing though, I guess that wastes a few frames.

It seemed entertaining enough. The technical difficulty about not jumping due to speed issues did tend to make it look sloppier than runs without such an issue, though. Yes vote.

Bobby's World was an old cartoon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby%27s_World This game was based on that cartoon.

The game has amusing graphics, but the gameplay doesn't really stand out for me. The bosses take a while to kill, while they repeat a generic pattern in the meantime. Everything just feels too repetitive. There are some places where I can see good technical work, but overall the game is very average. Meh leaning towards No, sorry.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

I like the music (but why does it keep resetting, stupid game!) and the gameplay doesn't look bad to me.

It's an average TAS. Nothing really bad in it, but nothing superb either. Didn't feel bad watching it once. Worth an average yes vote.

I dunno. I'm gonna have to give it a Meh vote. It's not that a bad TAS, but it's kind of boring to watch. The nostalgia value from when I was a child was enough to warrant a Meh.
