Putter Golf is a minigolf game released via Sega Meganet in 1991. It is similar to the Master System game Putt & Putter.

This TAS attempts to complete the game as fast as possible, but in some courses the number of possible shot combinations is so big that a bot should be used for truly optimal results.
The starting position of the first shot can be adjusted within a small area and the power meter starts from the value of the previous shot. These mechanics make human-assisted TASing quite challenging, but also fun.

11I moved the starting position of the shot slightly to get past an obstacle.
22This course needs 2 shots. It is hard to optimize, so using 4 000 000 rerecords on it might be a good idea in the future.
31The sticky concrete in the middle is sticky, so it's faster to go around it. Oh, there are lava obstacles on my minigolf course! Cool! Never would have expected that, except maybe in Iceland.
41Minigolf course on ice? It's definitely Iceland!
51No, wait... we are in the middle of a desert.
61Oh my... It's Iceland again! I must be dreaming...
71A large part of the rerecords went for this shot.
82There are two possible routes. This was the faster one.
91There is a timed obstacle that requires waiting. A bot might be able to find a fast two-shot solution.

122There might be a faster solution with a single shot, but the ball has often too much speed and fails to enter the hole.

152It is required to stop on the "GO" symbol to open a gate.
162An extra ball is collected by chance. It has no effect in a TAS, though.
172A timed obstacle requires waiting again. This might be the hardest course, when played normally.
183A very hard course to optimize, because three shots are required.
191Difficult to optimize, because there is a clumsy paddle that can be moved by the player. Also, the ball often has too much speed, when it reaches the hole.
Hopefully somebody enjoys it. :)

I like this, it really looks like Putt & Putter. So I can only vote yes. I also made an encode, and I didn't put it on archive.org as requested. Here it is: http://rapidshare.com/files/383501003/puttergolf-tas-aqfaq.mkv It is too big to be published, unfortunately the moving sea of the later levels (and of the ending) raises the bitrate a lot. If that's even possible, someone should encode this by reducing the bitrate for the ending since it's not important for it to look good.

If you were going for fastest time wouldn't it be faster to take more shots? I liked what I saw yes vote.

This might be true for some of the courses, but it usually wastes time to make another shot. One of the difficulties is that the power meter for the second shot will be at different state depending on your first shot. Planning it is hard. If you made the first shot with half-strength, the next shot power would start at half-way. The initial power would then probably be too high and the ball would bounce off the hole, so we would need to wait for the power to rise and then lower to the correct level. Making just one shot usually guaranteed that the ball speed was suitable for entering the hole and no time was wasted waiting for the power meter to get to a correct level. In addition, the ball takes a long time to stop near the end of the shot. Also, each shot causes at least 1 frames of lag. But yeah, it was done intuitively and with limited amount of rerecords, so I'd be glad to see it botted. This TAS should help giving the bot some reference.

That's a sufficient reason for me. It's probably a reaction to this thread.

It's definitely fast and skillful (at least the Par suggestions make more sense in this game than in Zany Golf). It wasn't all that entertaining to me though. Maybe I'm more into stuff like Zany Golf. It would be awesome if it were possible to TAS Flash games to be able to play stuff like Candystand's mini golf...
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Voted yes. Surprisingly fast paced. I didn't know of this mini-golf game. It seems like it could be better than Zany Golf. I'll have to try it out some time.

Very interesting and fast-faced TAS! I didn't know that watching a minigolf game can be this entertaining. It would be cool if all of them can be done in hole-in-one style. Unfortunately, I doubt course 18 is possible. Voting yes!
