Comments

Who knew J J was a computer hacker. He had no need to open any of the capsules to find out the Door Open code for each room. Heck, he even opened the doors of room A6 with said command. (Proper way to open those doors actually, is get up on right ledge, kneel down, and shoot really fast.)
Luck was manipulated for the purpose of directing the norsa soldiers in desirable ways like firing later, and all of them standing to fire, where ever possible. Also was used to manipulate the code, to have 4 as the minimum digit. (Saves 24 frames over 1 as minimum digit. for my purposes, 0 counts as 10, since it is on the far right.) The Ideal door code for any given room, is 7-8-9-0, as it takes the fewest frames to enter.

Suggested screen shots.

Frame numbers of each shot, beside each shot, just in case the server hosting the shots go down.
5110 12661 14273 18406 22370 35739 36360 36726 46701 57096

Possible Improvements.

  • Manipulate luck further, get 7-8-9-0, 6-7-8-9, etc, setting 6 as minimum digit.

Other comments

Improved over previous movie by 2463 frames. Everything more precise, changed order of level up, Doesn't get to Level 8 as soon as possible, just level 7. (Thats when max running speed is reached.)

FractalFusion: The run is well-done, as evidenced from improvement from previous submissions. However, the game seems to be too repetitive. Perhaps an any% run may be better, or maybe not. I'm rejecting the run.

adelikat Unrejecting this submission for consideration into the Vault tier

Wait, Dega isn't an accepted emulator. I'm feeling kinda iffy about this.

Quick! Tell the admins, there are 18 unauthorized movies already published on this website! On a serious note, I liked the previous version, and this is improvement, easy yes vote.

With this many quick revisions to the movie, this seems like this should've had more WIPs released on the forums before submitting. But no matter. This looks cleaner all the time to the point where I'm actually enjoying this when I fast-forward through the card screens. Yes vote, and I like either your third or sixth screenshots: the geometry of the people is cool.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

Oops, sorry. I forgot about that system.

I watched this run and have one important question: How much faster is "any%" than "100%"? Would "any%" be better?

Encode: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xde7a2_tas-sms-zillion-100-tas-by-caitsit_videogames The sound is a bit off, unfortunately, because I used the VfW provided in Dega v1.16.

Any% would be about 2 minutes 10 seconds faster, but ends up with the ending, thats equivelent to "Although some of the zillion men were lost, they completed their mission". You would also get that ending, if any of the Zillion men die, even if all of them were rescued. So yeah, Any% does have an effect on the ending slightly, so I was aiming for the good ending on this run. The only run on SDA is a bad ending run, which weighs in at 0:23:16.

There's clear effort in the route planning and luck manipulation here, but the stock gameplay is very bland and repetitive. I therefore vote meh. Encode: http://www.archive.org/download/SmsZillion100ByCaitsith2In1830.38/zillion-tas-100p-caitsith2.mp4

I watched the unassisted speedrun on SDA and determined an "any%" run wouldn't be much shorter. Anyway, I'm afraid that the gameplay of inputting passwords throughout this whole "100%" run will never change in any "any%" run, provided no huge glitch/sequence-break is discovered.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

Have to agree with sgrunt here. It seems too repetitive, with all the similar-looking rooms and machine sequences.

Yeah, the only glitch I know of, is the invincibility glitch, and an elavator max up travel glitch. (only the latter was used in the run, only once, since it was the only time where it was faster than just riding.) There are two ways of performing the invincibility glitch. 1. Ride the Elevator between room C3 and D3 up/down, hitting the electrical barrier in the process. If done correctly, you will fall through the floor in D3, and trip the alarm. 2. In any room where you can take damage, such that you can use a computer immediately after, you do so once you have taken that damage, and input the suicide command. (0000). There is one other condition to successful entry of the code. It has to not be done in a room, where inputting the command will yield a message. (There are 6 such rooms in the game, and iirc, Room C6 is the first such room that will be encountered to output a message instead of killing you.) The damage can be from either norsa soldiers or from autoguns. It can't be done from electric barriers. Normally, when your health reaches 0, thats it.

When I wrote up the specifications of the Vault tier I put in "Full game completion" as a valid category. But I was a little on the fence. I was on the fence because if the run had limited entertainment value to the audience, a full completion probably has even less. Here is an example of a unknown game on an under-appreciate console, 100% completion run. These make it to the vault under the current rules. Should they? Discuss.

As the SDA runner for this game, my (biased) opinion is "Yes".

Yes, I think this should be allowed on technical quality.
