Oh! Oh! This looks like fun! >>That's even more arbitrary. If you want to stay within the Mario universe, take SM64 for example. There used to be a 16-star run, but a 1-star run soon made short work of that. Now call me crazy, but that run seems to skip just as big a percentage of the previous run as the SMW credits glitch TAS. If I am wrong, why did the 1-star run obsolete the 16-star run instead of being put into a separate category? sm64 16 star run, what's the goal? Complete the game as much faster as possible than the fastest intended path (hint: it wasn't a 17 star run, or a 38 star run, or a 69 star run, etc, because 16 was fastest). So when it is discovered that you can do it faster than faster than the fastest intended path, it's still the same goal: to complete the game faster than the fastest intended path. Since fastest is now 0 star (hint: it still isn't 17 star run or 38 star run or 69 star run), it has the same goal as the 16 star. So it is the same category/branch/voodoo magic. sm64 70 star run, what's the goal? Complete the game in the fastest intended path (I think? not a sm64 guy myself). Why no accepted? Beats me. Perhaps it was too difficult to stomach using a glitch (BLJ seto007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) that would let you take a non-intended path through the game but collecting the same amount of stars as the intended path, thus making your goal choice self contradictory. Since the goal is the intended path. bwaaah?! smw11: the goal is to complete the game in the fastest intended path. If it were faster to go through vanilla dome like the smw small 15 exit run does, then that is the path it would take. But it's faster to take 11 exits (in an order that was intended by game devs). Which this run does do. This is why I pretty much always call it smw11 rather than smw any%. smw glitched: the goal is to complete the game faster than the fastest intended path. PS: I lied when I said Joey says Nyeh! 750 times. I forgot to multiply by 8. He says Nyeh 6000 times.

I like the The End version better for two reasons. 1) I think it feels more broken this way, which is the point. 2) and probably something "the site" doesn't care so much about, is that it really annoys me when I go to download MovieXYZ.avi in 2:36.4 and then the avi is 7 minutes long. >>I'm also interested in the save file (does it shows you can play the last level...<etc> If you look at a save file after an 11 exit run, you will see it says you've only completed 7 exits. Does that mean they didn't finish the game?

Pretty huge question here. Where does the site use "any%" as a term to categorize runs? I was able to find it in two places: as a title for a single currently published super metroid run, and in several game descriptions. It seems to me the problem isn't with the category "any%" because it virtually doesn't exist as an official concept on this site. If anything, the problem is with whoever makes movie descriptions on the movie pages where the term shows up several times (and with you people arguing that something that hardly exists is such a huge bad thing for the site). Check the movie categories. No such term. Check the movies pages yourself if you don't believe me. Just to be sure, I also checked for "any %" which doesn't appear at all. Most games that don't have large game communities also don't have a heavily glitched run. The games with heavy memory corruption are usually games with large communities, which I would guess have an expectation for what is the "normal" route through a game. When the go looking at a movie labeled simply as <game name> in <XX:XX>, they are almost certainly expecting the "normal" route. Give it to them.

I'm not entirely sure this is the right place for this. When making this post I discovered how difficult it is to indent things without the code tag. It would be nice if there was an indent function that would allow me to indent a specified amount. This would have the additional advantage of appeasing DK64_MASTER. While making this post I was unable to find a way to easily generate a link to a specific post, and had to do it manually. It would be nice if posts had a self linking button, perhaps right next to the quote button.

I think Game resources page should simply be an alphabetical list of video games by platform, like it is now. This (imo) could include games that are not currently TASable like GTA3. The link Super Mario World on the GameResources page currently brings you here. SuperMarioWorld.html should not be altered because it's linked to from many places and that specific page is what is wanted from those links (basically super mario world tricks). What I am suggesting is not what is wanted from those links. Instead, it could link to this page which would then look a lot like my previous post. /Links.html could link to feos page SuperMarioWorld/Lua.html. If this is a resource that the administration agrees with (if it doesn't work out, you can always nix it later), I think this topic would be a good place for non editors to report outdated information and/or create templates for unlisted games. As I said earlier, this would be very labor intensive; it would definitely benefit greatly from user input.

Sure it can currently all be found, if you have the patience to look for it and know it's there for the finding. Right now there is no one convenient place where I can go to find a succinct list of links to all the most useful information about a particular game. The primary purpose of having such a list in one place is that we've done the work of google searching for you, and left out all the results that aren't relevant to speedrunning or game research. The main (only?) drawback, and why this system might not work, is keeping it up would require a lot of work. Creating it for the first time for many games probably won't be so hard, but then keeping up with speedrun records and categories might be something that is not done well. I have already lost this post twice, so I'm going to be brief this time (bleh). Also I'm putting it in sites instead of General, it probably fits better here. GameResources.html I think can be used for much more than it is. Right now you click on a choice of a handful of games and it takes you to what is basically GameTricks.html. I think it would be more useful for you to click a game name and get a dropdown like this

This makes it much more useful not only to TASers, but to people simply interested in the game to go watch/read/whatever all that there is about the game. It also has the benefit of implementing The Tub Idea™ without having to alter site code. So Super Metroid can have 9 categories and it won't matter. It does not replace Movies-XYZ.html because there are no screenshots on GameResources dropdown lists. It may attract people to the site because they say "hey I want to know more about game xyz" and then someone tells them to come here because we already did the google searching for them and compiled it into a neat list. It also can be used for games that do not yet have TASing capabilities so the information is there when it does. Last time I wrote this up it was about 5x longer. gg

Is there an organized effort to write letters to local/state/national representatives? I would guess that 650,000 customers even leaving one large bank doesn't really have an effect that the higher up guys care about, and representatives can "ignore the problem until it goes away" and hope that it doesn't last until the next time they are up for election. If you fill their email and snail mail and phone lines and faxes with personal accounts of what you think is wrong, how you want to change it, and why you think it should be changed, day in and day out for a month or six, that's a bit harder to ignore (tying up their normal modes of communication with their other constituents. Standing in a large crowd in a city does not do this.). This should be something people do individually, written by themselves rather than "hey guys I made this form letter let's all copy it" for better effect. Since donations are already a pretty big part of the occupy deal, it wouldn't be a very large step I think to ask for donations of paper, pens, envelopes, and stamps. And this is a thing that you don't actually have to be at one of the protests to do, so it could reach more people than just those at the camps.

Has anyone tried grabbing this shell while riding yoshi, then use the shell to make a coin to eat rather than killing the piranha plant? Seems unlikely, but at this point we should test everything I think. Is it known what triggers the pipe cannon to launch mario? I used cheats to put mario in the x and y coordinates that he normally is in to when he spawns to launch from the cannon, and didn't get launched, but when I disable the cheat it sets him back outside the pipe slightly along his launch trajectory. Trying to find a way to launch from the pipe without having to go through the cave might be worth looking into. What happens if you force yoshi to eat a vine instead of a chuck? Can that be done?

Slowking part of the problem with doing YI1 to get the goal sphere is that when you complete the level the game forces you to walk up the mountain to the yellow switch palace, and you have to walk back. This would imply two map transitions, and it's quite the trek up that hill. Many frames which eat up the time it seems you should save by skipping the cutscene. I think there may be a solution, though. If you cornerclip the pipe so you get crushed and die. This keeps you from doing the crazy trek up the mountain, with the tradeoff that you can't do the yoshi wings trick in yi3. I don't know how much time the wings trick saves, or how much time the goal sphere route was behind, so this may or may not actually be a solution Where the fireball is I think is a potential death spot. Eye of the Beholder: Getting a goal sphere requires clapping chuck. YI2 only has two chargin chucks, which grant a naked koopa in the reserve box. Here is clapping chuck, he grants a goal sphere: Here is chargin chuck, he grants a naked koopa:

I just looked through an obsolete sdw120 run and these are the chucks I saw. There may be others off the beaten path, but not many I would guess.
SDW
mi1: chargin, multiplying. mid level.
mi2: jumping, multiplying. mid level.
mi3: multiplying, chargin. mid level.
si: multiplying near beginning.
ww3: whistling at the end.
sw2: baseball throughout
sw5: not sure which type. they stand and do nothing.
bw1: chargin near beginning. multiply, jumping mid to end
msw: chargin at midway gate
skysw: baseball near beginning and midway
isw: baseball throughout

>>I wouldn't be against using this exclusively for Boo's Tower in the SDW 100%, due to the extreme length of the level. The coolest level in the run. One of the most fun to watch imo. Skip it and nothing else. Makes perfect sense.... >>we have to think about which runs it would be acceptable to do this in. all of the ones that are likely to get accepted here (note how this pretty much excludes any hack except sdw). Post whatever you want on nicovideo and youtube. >>in 100% runs of games, such as VIP, smw and sdw, we could return to previous levels containing Clapping or Bouncing chucks to gain a key in reserve or a goal point in reserve to be used. Enter a level, do some amount of it, trek across the map to it, trek across the map back. This is going to save time? I think it will be less useful than you think. Show me in smw96 where it would be good to use this to save time other than by spawning the goal sphere powerup on your first time through a level. I counted 8 levels with clapping chuck, and some of those are probably bouncing chuck which I don't know the difference here. >>it can be abused ad infinitum, So can the cloud in sdw. Or the extra key. There is a reason they are not, that being the trekking I talked about above. Frames add up on the overworld map very quickly. http://vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld I may or may not do something similar for sdw.
Location of various chucks. I'm unsure what the difference is between bouncing and clapping chuck, so I probably just called them all clapping.
YI1: clapping, at the end.
Yi2: chargin, in the middle, at the end.
dp1: baseball chuck, midway and beyond.
dp2: football chuck near secret exit
vd1: football chuck at exit tape
vd2: chargin chuck midway and beyond. clapping chuck at exit tape
vs1: football chuck at both exit tapes
vs2: clapping chuck at exit tape
cm: clapping chuck at exit tape
foi2: whistling chuck at exit tape
foi3: chargin(?) chuck near exit tape
ci1: clappin chuck midway
ci2: baseball chucks at key exit
ci4: clappin chuck at the exit tape
ci5: clappin chucks near the exit tape
cis: football chucks nearish the beginning
vob1: chargin chuck at spawn and throughout
vob4: digging chuck at spawn
tubular: clapping chuck at spawn, baseball chuck at yoshi wings, football chuck near end
groovy: baseball chucks near exit tape
funky: baseball chuck and whistling chuck near middle and throughout
Also worth noting in smw96, getting an extra key from this trick is essentially useless, since the in level key is always right next to the keyhole. And to reiterate: I really don't think this glitch is as game breaking as you guys think it is. I remember myself, Fabian and JXQ having very similar feelings about the dragon coin glitch "oh wow now you can just skip half the game laaaaaame :'(". I can't speak for the others, but I no longer feel that way. And finally, if you want to ignore this for things like VIP and TSRP2 I don't care either way since they aren't games that interest me. Do what you enjoy no matter what. This should be fun!

I don't think it would result in all stages being completed by the clapping chuck goal sphere, at least in smw. You'd have to find a level where getting to clapping chuck and then trekking back to your level is shorter than just doing the level. So I think at best it would result in skipping longer levels, like Forest of Illusion 2. Maybe I'm wrong. In super demo world it could have larger consequences because there are many long levels. What happens if you pick a goal sphere in big boos tower? Are there any changes to this glitch if you are riding different colored yoshis, or if you are riding chargin chuck? Edit What happens if you item swap the baseball chuck, the football chuck, and the whistles to wake up all the fishies chuck? Are there more chucks that I'm not thinking of? Can you use baby yoshi to item swap by grabbing items at the same time he eats them? Can you item swap other bad guys like Hammer Bros or the flying item box or giant bullet bill or an activated blue brick (or standard monsters like a koopa troopa?).

I've read that if you didn't eat modern foods (high fructose corn syrup, etc) you wouldn't even have to brush you teeth, with the example given being native people from all around the world who while on their native diet of whatever natives eat (aborigines, eskimos, etc) 1) don't brush their teeth 2) don't have tooth decay. Change their diet to something more like yours and shazam! their teeth rot out of their head. I don't know if there have been any well done studies on this, but it seems to make sense. /me goes to eat a candy bar I saw a documentary about a hospital in Georgia (the country) where instead of giving patients toothpaste etc they would frequently take mouth swabs from random people (or the specific patient?) and grow the bacteria that are rotting their teeth. With bacteria comes the bacteriophage which they would harvest and give to their patients as a mouthwash. It was a constant process of getting new mouthwash, but their patients had little/no tooth decay iirc. I spit my toothpaste.
