A special route with many glitches. I got Roc Wing, Tackle, Heavy Ring and broke the bronze portrait in Chapel as quickly as possible, then I could run everywhere. Summoning warp, I went to Clock Tower by it without Tackle, and used it in Chapel to run quicklier. Summoning climb, used it to fight with Camilla after getting Kick Boots, of course, needed enough MP. In Gallery, manipulationed luck to get mind restore. In Waterway, used still glitch to disappear these painful switches. Inverse running in Arena, I could run all the time and did not kill enemies, before this, I got mind restore enough and two extra cards, I used the cards instead of opening menu 6 times more, it saved many frames.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also replaced the ROM name.
  • You indicated Castlevania - Circle of the Moon (U).gba
  • I updated it to Castlevania - Circle of the Moon (U) [!].gba

Truncated: I feel that map percentage is not a good goal for this game. Watching you enter and then immediately exit areas, and taking big detours without collecting anything does not feel right. The extra bosses and glitches are a plus, but most of the time this movie is endless running through corridors. Rejected.

Personally, I found this run amazing. Done by a human, the fastest anyone can do a 100% run is something like 135 minutes, so just under 47 minutes is astounding, especially considering that this is the longest Castlevania in existence, outside of possibly Portrait of Ruin. Voted yes.

Man, I would so like to see a run that doesn't use the DSS glitch. That takes out an immediate warp to Dracula, and means the TASer can manipulate card drops, which I know from playing take forever. Also boss fights will be more interesting because it won't be just using skeleton all the time.
Eh, I don't know. The DSS glitch is very well-known and very easy to execute even without an emulator. It's almost a fundamental part of the game for experienced Circle of the Moon players.

The solution is pretty simple: Fighter mode run. Fighter can't use DSS cards, yet he is strong enough to not make the boss fights look tedious.

I'm kind of torn on this run. On the one hand I don't think 100% map completion is an arbitrary goal. The game records your progression through the castle and each square on the map counts towards the overall percentage. In this manner, is it any more arbitrary that 100% items in a Metroid game? (Particularly the first Metroid, which doesn't even have a counter for the items). On the other hand, the fun of getting 100% map completion in a Castlevania game comes from playing it yourself. Seeing it in action isn't nearly as satisfying, since you can't see the map as the movie is being played. Thus it's too hard to tell just by watching the movie how much of the castle you have completed. Using the Metroid example again, at least you can see via energy tank and missile counts, the number of items you have. But, I'll have to vote yes despite the second point. It well played and the effort that must've went into planning the route alone is commendable.

Don't use the list in vain; Spoony_Bard wasn't arguing whether the movie should be published, he just stated his reasons for voting yes. >_>

Mm, alright. Generally, though, I view them as one and the same.

Yes, I also see the excuses as valid reasons.

Perhaps I should elaborate, since I didn't intend to make it seem I was an example of rules 6 and 7. While the inability to 'see' the progression throughout the castle hurt the run, at its concept, a bit, I still enjoyed watching the movie. It showed off much more of the overall game than the other published runs. (And, personally, I made occasional save states, stopped the movie, and loaded them to take a look at the map. But of course, that won't make any difference in a published avi) More bosses are fought, more sights are seen, I didn't notice any errors in the playing, and since I personally don't consider a 100% map run to be an arbitrary goal in a Castlevania TAS, I voted yes. :)

Clever routes (breaking stuff open with axe beforehand was a nice touch), a lot of glitching and awesome soundtrack of the game make this movie a hard one for me to resist. I wasn't bored watching it, it's not that long, especially for a 100% and the backtracking parts were kept to a minimum and irritated only in a few locations where the "go in door, move to halfway of the room, exit" -cycle was done a few too many times in rapid succession. In any case, I was entertained, thus yes.

Actually, if you pause or look quickly while he goes to the character screen to switch cards and such while fighting Dracula, you can see the 100% in the map exploration thingy. But yeah, it can be tough to spot.

I just watched this run and I'm a bit upset it was rejected as it was quite entertaining and I thought your route was excellent and watching all the extra bosses getting killed was awesome. Overall great run, shame it was rejected despite all the positive votes.

I sincerely hope that the people here are the kind who can take a joke. Be aware, that I voted yes for this video since the glitches were cool, so this image is not my opinion. It's a joke that I hope people will not get angry about.

I took a long time to find this run again (since the first time I saw the submission, I didn't have the right version of vba to see it), and I'm pretty surprise that there were a lot of yes vote since this run was rejected. IMO, it was a really good run, I especially liked the way he took to climb the wall from the underground waterthing. I hope Truncated didn't reject this because of his own oppinion. Personnally I even do like to see more 100% map runs (like for the other castlevanias, super metroid, metroid etc), in fact it's one of the first goal I though about when I first heard about speedruns, suprisingly I saw none with this goal. edit: I didn't even saw yet the ice glitch and the way he entered and did the arena.

I requested the encode. Much obliged to Mister Epic for allowing me to check out this older TAS. Too bad it's so long, it does seem rather well done. I am now the umpteenth one to say 'what the hell happened' with regards to the Arena. I didn't know the "spear crash" combo could be abused so much....
