I'm wondering if there is a way i can combine movies together/resume recording on the movie at a later date so i dont have do to the whole game in one sitting. If this is possible it would help a lot because i could do the game section by section without doing a full on 8 hour run of it.

Ummm.... you do know what save states are right? I have a run that I've been working on for the better part of a year and a half, so I'd suggest you read through the FAQs if you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Ya i do know what save states are, i use them all the time. Here is what im asking: Is it possible to resume recording from the end of a video. Meaning that i am able to start the video where i ended it last time and can continue on. Or Can i make seperate videos and combine them together into one? The first option would be easier and better, but ill do number 2 as well if i have to. Nevermind, i read through the faq and figured out i just have to load the last save state i made while im playing the movie in normal mode (not read-only) right?

My current WIP, up to the pit room in the heros cave. Im stuck on how to do the pit walk though, could someone tell me how to do it? Heres my current WIP, does it look good so far? http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1198533254/Seasons%20WIP.vbm

Well... not really I'm afraid. You shall aim for perfection. And this isn't really frame advance played. During all text sequences you shall turbo A and B. Press A one frame and B the other. Not just tapping A "randomly", as that's not the fastest way. If you shall try to start a new run of a game you shall check the current videos of it. And you aren't even close to the same frame number... OoA and OoS are a bitch to TAS sometimes, because of manipulation. And I'm unsure that you can handle that. And me and Soulrivers are already working on an Oracle of Seasons TAS and Swordless is doing Ages. But I won't stop you from trying at least :). Also, I told before how to do the pitwalk. Didn't included that you have to be in the middle of two holes though... There's an option in VBA that says "Read only". If you play a movie and load a save state, while "Read only" is marked, you will fast forward/rewind to the frame where that save state is made. If it isn't marked, you will rerecord from there. That's how you can continue recording a movie afterwards.

Ok well i guess ill have to break away from my slo-mo and try to do some frame advance. I will try a run of this game, but yours may be better. Thanks for answering these questions, i know they can be annoying sometimes.

No worries. I belive I asked the same kinds of question when I first came to this place. And I surely did a lot of ass movies back then... Practice makes perfect!

If my run doesn't work out for me, I'll glady help you and soul out with your run. Update: here is my newest run, the one ill be working on now. It uses frame advance, but as you can see at the end of the movie i still fall into the pit. What am i doing wrong? I did just like you said. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1008851569/Seasons%20run.vbm

It's getting better at least, but yet not good enough. You are 290 frames, nearly 5 seconds, too slow into the "hole room". When pitwalking: If you press one frame up you shall start falling down into the hole above, if you don't press anything else after, and if you press first up and then down and are going down the hole below you, you are doing it right. I hope you understand that... I suck at explaining stuff. And also. You are sometimes doing unnecessary bumps into walls. That will cause you to lose time. You shall also avoid walking diaognally as much as you can, because that's slower.

Any WIP VBMs for that?

OoA OoS This one has to be improved because the last rooms are very badly made. Should be around 40 frames faster or so.

Ahh ok, i thought walking diagonally was faster because you would be going both ways at once. Ill also retry the pit walk tomarrow, after i get up, im out for tonight. Thanks for all the help tompa.

Well yeah. But the diagonal animation is quite odd. The first frame you could go upleft, then only left, stand still, up, stand still, upleft, upleft, up, stand still, left, up etc. It's pretty confusing.

The pit walk isn't working either way for me, no matter what. I can get to where it looks almost like he's going to step onto the other side, then he gets pulled into the pit. I did redo my run and i shaved 2 seconds off of my old time leading up to the pit room.

I'll put this as not-bluntly as I can: don't run this game. Seriously consider starting with something easier, like a NES or SNES game. Doing this run is far from easy, luck manipulation is HELL. As I and Tompa already have optimised the WIP almost as much as possible, you're going to have a very hard time beating the time when you don't know the most fundamental parts of TASing, like memory watching, luck manipulation and frame advance! I'm sorry to break it to you, but you will fail this.

Darth, it's a good learning experience so go ahead with it. Even if it's not perfect, I would love to see a finished movie of either of these games and obviously progress is slow with the work they put in optimization their WIPs. New people tend to be faster. And Soul : I know what you meant to say but no use in discouraging someone that's learning... who knows he might be the one to discover a big sequence break =p

But if he were to keep going the way he's been going so far, his run wouldn't be publishable since we'd know it could be improved a lot. I know you're new to this, Darth, but if you're planning on making a submittable run of this game, then you should get used to TASing with VBA first. As Soulrivers said, TASing the Oracles is no easy task. Assuming you actually do try to do an optimal run, the manipulation will probably make you want to give up (it's made me want to give up several times in OoA, but I've managed to keep going...somehow). Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I think i may just work on this from time to time, but like i said before i don't expect to be the fastest on this game, or the best at it. If i could make a run that at least lasts as the fastest for a month id be happy lol.

This won't happen. Runs are rejected if it's proven that there is a faster WIP in the works. Seriously, listen to Tompa, Soulrilvers, and SwordlessLink. They are very skilled TASers who know what they are talking about, and are doing a good job on both OoS and OoA. Find some other game. Better yet, since I've been monitoring how many topics you post in, find ONE game and stick with it. I can't tell you enough how important that is, especially to fledgling newbies such as yourself.

Well it would seem as though this game is out of the question then. I'll focus on paper mario now.

...somehow, when they said a simpler game, I don't think they had something like Paper Mario in mind. ;) Anyways, I haven't posted here in aeons, but I thought I might check up on how the OOS/OOA runs were doing. I should probably pick up my OOA NG+, but then again, I'd probably drop it again. (By the way, feel free to use me as an example of a newbie TASing failure, if it helps, cause I certainly don't disagree with you guys having experienced it firsthand.)

I know it isn't the simplest game, but it sounds much simpler than OOS.
