This run is an improvement of 5,103 frames (85 seconds) over the published Super Metroid run. Once again I aim for real time, as opposed to in-game time. In-game clock’s final time is 24:16. Cpadolf’s recently submitted run is 30 seconds faster on the in-game clock, but is 90 seconds slower in real time. The real time oriented route I designed for this run eliminates backtracking and excessive item collecting. The only noticeably slower parts compared to the in-game run are the Ridley and Mother Brain battles, due to skipping the plasma beam.
Instead of mentioning all the improvements I have made to the run here, please refer to this excel file for a complete breakdown. Special thanks to JXQ for the original excel spreadsheet, from which I copied his formulas and followed his tips for many of the rooms in the run.

My run would not be as precise as it is without the help of memory watch and Gocha’s memory watch tool.
Perfect, much like human decency is pretty much up to any interpretation one desires.
EDIT: I think this part may be of importance
I suggest saturn use other words round perfect to support his statements other than the following terms: absolutely, definitely, surely, must be, maxed out, unimprovable, flawless, definite etc.
Instead maybe say something like this WIP/movie resembles somewhat perfection.
At approximately 25 minutes into the movie, when exiting Ridley's room, you charge the shinespark, climb the left wall to get to the ceiling, shoot at the door to open it, and launch the shinespark to get accross the next room fast.
Why not climb the right wall, open the door, go to the next room, fire and then launch the shinespark? Wouldn't that allow you flying through two rooms instead of one?
I'm not sure there is enough time left on the spark timer to do that, also I think the room after is to long, when rooms are past a certain length you can't shoot the door open and pass through it with a spark because your speed would be to great when the the door starts to open (a.i either to shot goes ofscreen or the door opens to late)
It's not possible, I tried it carefully long time ago. ;-)
It's not about the charge timer (you have more than enough time to carry it into the next room), it's about the length of the pre-Ridley room. Basicly the rule I figured out is: All rooms that are longer than 2 screen blocks won't allow you to make a distance shot to open the door on the other side fast enough to shinespark through it without hitting (the only exception to this are blinking grey doors, because they open 6 frames faster). As Cpadolf said, the speed of the spark just gets too high after more than 2 screen blocks.
Then run in the pre-Ridley room until it becomes possible? The shot doesn't have to be fired immediately when entering that room. You could try running towards the other door and fire+launch the shinespark in the exact frame where it works.
I'm not saying this will be faster than doing it like it's done in the runs now, but has anyone actually tried it to see which is faster?
(Btw, some time could be saved in the Ridley room by charging the shinespark in that room instead of the adjacent room (where the energy tank is). That way time doesn't have to be wasted in that adjacent room.)
Well I checked and figured you could enter the pre ridley room with ~50 frames left on the timer, in the beginning of the room there is a unavoidable fall (you start without ground under your feet) and no large platforms where you could gain great speed. Thus you can nor make it that far enough into the room, I don't even think you would come very close.
Also since you can run through the acid in the room after and make a high speed jump into the next room there is a possibility that it would not be faster even if possible.
His platform is to small to charge a shinespark on.
Thinking about it, couldn't you fire your weapon immediately after entering the pre-Ridley room, wait for a while (the minimum amount of frames needed for this to work) and then jump forward and launch the shinespark just at the right moment? If I'm not mistaken, doors can be opened by shooting even if the door is outside the screen (at least that's done after defeating Kraid).
(Of course this is already being quite slow, but maybe, just maybe, being able to shinespark through two long rooms may make up for it, if it indeed works. If you can make it work, could you post how many frames the current way of doing it and this way require?)
Well I'm not totaly sure how it works with the kraid door, you can open it but you need to be really close to it. Shots do disappear ofscreen though, and to quickly to make the spark possible.
Warp:
Again, doors in rooms that are longer than 2 screen blocks can't be opened fast enough to shinespark through them. If you shoot them earlier, the projectile gets offscreen before hitting the door. If you hit the door on the earliest possible frame before getting offscreen, the door is still 1-2 frames too slow to fully open before you can shinespark through it.
Running to the right in the pre-Ridley room before shooting the door would only work if you pass one full screen block in that room, which (due to the small platforms that don't allow you to get fast enough running speed) make your charge timer run out way before you even get close to the needed position before a possible spark.
And yeah, offscreen Kraid door is a exception here, and it only works if you are touching the door before shooting.
My first language is not English, so please excuse myself if I write something wrong. I'll do my best do write as cleary as I can, so cope with me here =)
