General info

  • Emulator used: VBA 1.72 Rerecording v19.3
  • Starts from a predefined save
  • Aims for shortest input time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Enters AAIIMMX instead of MAXIM to play as Maxim
The movie improves Deign's published movie by 23 frames. 10 frames were saved in the name entry, 9 frames were saved from the route and 4 frames were saved from Dracula's Wraith. Maybe it's not so good an improved movie, but this is a new record nonetheless.

Improvements

Route changes

It seems that I saved some 3-6 frames before entering the machine tower. Some frames were gained from a faster way to enter the core chamber as well. Thus adjusting (sub-)pixel positions helped a lot.

Boss fight

It's just some luck manipultions there...

Credits

Thanks to every one who made TASing this movie reality, and some special thanks (related to this run the most) to:
Specially, pirate_sephiroth for the whole amazing route!
All previous authors for their contributions.
zggzdydp for his wonderful name entry as well as his help with boss fight test.
ljffdb2 for his constructive feedback.

Notes

IIRC, it's the 3rd/4th time I have asked judges to replace a submission file due to later improvements. Better to ask more people to watch my WIPs and completed runs before submissions next time.

adelikat: Replaced submission file at author's request. The new submission file is 3 frames faster.

mmbossman: It seems that the frame wars are over, at least for now. Accepting as an improvement to the published movie.

You could look at the frame number of each black screen transition, and create a table to see where the frames saved were. Most likely yes vote. Good to see a frame war over this run. With a movie so short, any improvement is a worthy improvement.

9 frames were saved apparently from nowhere.
To me it seemed that most (or all) of the improvements were due to you entering the wall a bit differently resulting in faster maneuvers when warping around. Maybe the last charge to the elevator was faster too? The method of movement is far from normal (the character never walks or runs in the movie), so I can believe it is hard to get it perfect. Voting "yes" again.

I just improved 3 more frames in the final fight.
Due to good luck, the game actually ended 10 frames faster despite the input being only 3 frames faster. I got curious and compared it to the current publication too: The AVI content of the latest record is 26 frames shorter. Not that it matters, since the movie obviously aims for the shortest input, but anyway, congratulations for being lucky, klmz!

How did you improve name entry by 10 frames, for a game that has been repeatedly obsoleted? Normally name entry is trivially easy to optimise, so what happened here?

I haven't actually watched the movie, but from what I understand, it's a matter of making use of the L and R buttons to move the cursor about and insert letters in a nonlinear order. This lets you avoid having to scroll the cursor back to the M redundantly to spell "Maxim" and probably lets you take a more direct route to other letters, too.

I don't recall writing "Emeter" and stuff in Chinese on any videos.... EDIT: It could be that people encoded some of my movies (especially AoS bossrush TASes) writing "Emeter" on them. EDIT 2: Or there are others named "Emeter" as well.

Since this movie has been accepted, I made an encode of it. Enjoy. Download AVI. Disclaimer: the encode proposed in the link above is unofficial and hasn't been used for actual publication, despite having higher video and sound quality than the published one.
