While we wait for the official 2008 awards, here's my list of favorite gruefood from the last year... 10: Color a Dinosaur by Deign and adelikat (one movie each) A modern day legend. Submission text and forum sigs have never fully recovered. 9: King's Quest V by BZero Awesome point and click old-school Sierra action. 8: North & South by Chamale This made me "LOL" as the kids say these days. 7: Might and Magic by Dammit Wait, what just happened. 6: Minesweeper by alden Hell yes I'm including myself. Make your own list. Or your own <.5 second submission. 5: 6 Mega Man Games by AngerFist Perfect for those hungry for more action after the 4 game movie. 4: Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog, No Rings Collected by mike89 An answer to the question few have asked, "Can you beat any Sonic game without collecting a ring?" Yes, if by Sonic game you mean (well-made) fan hack... 3: Dragon's Lair by DarkKobold So glad I didn't waste many quarters trying to see the end of this one in the arcade. 2: Ocarina of Time by JNX Even the author said it was sub-optimal, but whatever. 1: Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Warp This is a terrible game and a boring movie, but it has a strange allure... frankly the perfect candidate for GRUEFOOD OF THE YEAR Congratulations on making "subpar" movies guys. Hope to see more this year!

Congrats to Warp. I'm kinda sad that I just watched almost 2 minutes of that movie.

I don't know if I remember correctly, and surely it was manipulated a bit to get a relatively high score.... but I think I tried to let it play randomly against that easiest country, and they lost also... so I somehow failed to see why tool assistence was really needed to show the concept. More impressive would be beating the final opponent (although it would still have issues like not finishing the game).

Certainly considered, but since it didn't finish the game it didn't quite make this prestigious list.

Thank you for not listing that submission. You know the one. I very much appreciate it.

I thought Saturn's Super Metroid movie was really good.

Man I forgot about that one. I didn't watch it though. I'd venture to say that outside of the whole multiple category issue it was probably more publishable than the other movies on this list, from a strictly entertaining-to-the-most-number-of-people viewpoint. *ducks*

Unfortunately for Saturn and his Giant Ego, I view this award for the gruefood submission that is beautiful because of its ugliness, not whichever was the most optimal TAS that got rejected. Color a dinosaur wins in my book for being sheer stupidity that spread like wildfire on the site.

Simply awe-inspiring. Has Tiki ever seen that? Once again alden makes the best posts, but how many of these were made with the intention of being gruefood? At least 10, 6, 4, 3, and 1 I think. Also how come nobody ever shares such hilarious posts (this is from Dr Jekyll's thread) with me? :(

If the run is good relative to the game then there is no reason for SDA to reject it. Although beat em ups aren't accepted because its accepted that there likely to use repetive strategies which exploit a weakness in AI. The difficulty would come from finding verifiers.

Good point... Color a Dinosaur was clearly a joke submission. I did not really expect super-short Minesweeper to get published, however I did submit it with the idea that it could be. Dragon's Lair explicitly stated it was submitted to be rejected, however I think it's an amusing movie despite the simplicity. I can't say for certain on the others, but whatever the intent was I would say they could/should have been published.

Well I talked to mike89 when he submitted so I know for a fact he knew when making his "no rings" TAS that it wouldn't be published and it was just for fun. That means all of them are accounted for besides Warp's, and I can only speculate on his but that's what I got out of it at least.

I thought Jekyll and Hyde was interesting enough to watch all the way through. In a "train wreck" sort of way. Pity he lost "no damage" to what appeared to be a bug.

I didn't *really* expect it to be published, but I didn't submit it as a gruefood either. So it wasn't really a big surprise when it was not accepted. (Although, as I have been saying lately, I still think that publication should not really be so much about how "boring" the game itself is... But whatever.) The obligatory damage seems to be some kind of bug, glitch or perhaps a deliberate programmed feature which happens at random. I'm pretty sure of that because I actually started making a second run soon after my submission was rejected, this time trying to abuse the warp-from-left-screen-edge-to-the-right-edge glitch to save some seconds. At one point (in a level where it's not possible to abuse that glitch) I got into a situation where it was, once again, completely impossible to avoid damage. It seemed like you had to take the damage regardless of where you were on screen. You could be at the other extreme of the screen from the enemy which causes the damage and you would still get it. And this point was a few levels before the last one (in which I got the damage in my submitted run). No amount of backtracking seemed to get rid of that damage point, so even though it seemingly is possible to manipulate those mandatory damage points to not to happen, it's not easy. (It obviously must be possible because I didn't get any damage at that point in my submitted run.) It seems that the people who made this game not only wanted to piss off players, any TAS runners as well (even though they didn't even know of such a thing back then).

Wait, deign and deli really weren't trying to color a dinosaur as fast as possible? I feel I have lived a lie.
