I was inspired to do this run when I watch the Angry Video Game Nerd's Transformer review. As he describes in the video, this game notoriously difficult to play. Poor hit detection, 1 hit and you are dead, awkward controls, and very little in the way of power-ups make this game frustrating for the average player.

Summary

  • Emulator used FCEUX 2.1.0a
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Uses Warps

Notes

  • One hit and you are dead, period. And many enemies are designed/placed to make sure that happens, a lot. There are a number of awkward looking moments in the run as a result. Each situation is the fastest method (that I was able to come up with).
  • I use warps in level 2 & 7 to skip levels 3 & 8
  • Level 9 one is a lot like SMB 4-4 where you have to pick the right path...Except in the most assist example in gaming history! Here is a map of the route that should be taken: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/file/578338/47897 And of course this route is the hardest way to get through the level.
I guess that is it. Enjoy.

An ok watch indeed, nothing more unfortunately (and unsurprisingly). 5.5/7.0.

So you already know that SXL's and eternaljwh's suggestions won't work, Dooty?
No, it's not that, I guess no one will try because the game is horrible!

I'd rather see the Angry Video Game Nerd beating this game than this TAS. Abstain.

There is a difference between fun to play and fun to TAS.

This is true. This game is very unfun to play. But TASing it was enjoyable most of the time.

Faster one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l3ZIEj7n9U (I don't see its content and all discusses here at all, though)

I just watched them side by side (which is always interesting). The movie you linked is indeed faster. Clear improvements can be seen on multiple occasions. I don't think that movie is perfect either though...

I hope this gets improved and re-submitted... I enjoyed it thoroughly.

137,000+ views on hisatoki's video. That's pretty ridiculous for this game. He also wrote in his comments:
By the way, I write the end text in English. - Urgent instruction - Destron revived and became stronger with a new power. Take the Energon-Cube of "RODIMUS" and attack Destron again. Scramble! Ultramagnus!

It was not only faster, but also far more entertaining than adelikat's one. I hope the improved version captures some of the magic of Hisatoki.

Are you kidding? He didn't make any attempt at entertainment. He avoided enemies as uninspiringly as possible, he stopped moving whenever he didn't need to move, took the easiest path whenever possible. It was pure speed with no style. (I not saying mine did or anything).

I'm with adeli here: faster though it may have been, it was duller. Too much "A to B", very little, "...with some C on the side."
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.
