Emulator used: Gens Re-recording v11a
No warps, no passwords.
Programming errors that were abused: Scrolling away enemies.
Takes damage. Uses death (To save a few frames in the end).
Aims for: Fastest possible.
The game is basically a game related to the movie "The Terminator", released in 1984, it is very true to the movie itself.
Previous runs I've made was rejected, partly because the run wasn't fast enough. I've been working on this project for a month or so now, and I honestly can't see where I could've improved the run. This run is 8 seconds faster than the movie I submitted in the following topic: Forum/Topics/3366
It is impossible to make a fastest-possible-run by still maintaining an entertaining run, therefor I scrolled away the enemies. I took damage at on a pair of places to boost the speed of the player.

Truncated: After many revisions, I think this is now good enough to be published. It has tricks, it is pretty fast, it is varying enough to not get boring. Setting to accepted.

I like how the ending screen has been randomly cropped into the game. It was pretty good if not a little drab. The last level is definitely the best. I guess that makes it a yes vote. Good job Nisto. :)

It was fairly... slow, but short enough for me to tolerate. Weak Yes vote and encoding in HD. After this I reencode Survival Kids, hehehe.

After so many submissions, this game is starting to show some interesting tricks and good precision. I never expected you could jump through the first enemy with so much health left. Also, it is almost a pacifist run, which is a big surprise for anyone who has played the game. Unfortunately, it is not as entertaining to those who are unfamiliar with the game, but I hope it gets published. Voting yes. The only question I have is this: Would it save time to waste more health to minimize the bonus between levels? Edit: I accidentally said it was a pacifist run, but 2 or 3 enemies were killed by bombs.

Thanks for all your kind comments and votes! Aqfaq: If they, by "energy" mean the health, then I guess so, but it is hard to have a reasonably low life while still trying to beat every level as fast as possible. If you were to scroll away all the enemies in level 1 for example, you'd have to pray that once you've scrolled one away, it'd respawn on the left side and shoot you in the back instantly - it can happen if you're lucky. And trying to turn your back to get one of the enemies boost you forward in level 1 is no use, because you die instantly (no matter how much health you've got - if I remember correctly) In level 2 the only thing that can actually do damage to you, if you scroll enemies away, would have to been the chopper and the Terminator - if it shoots you, that is. I cannot stress enough how boring the police station can be, the only thing that can hit you in this level when scrolling away enemies is also the Terminator (he only hit me with one shot though...). Luckily I was actually unable to scroll the enemies away on the third floor (and still maintain a good time) - that's why I boosted the player on the second floor through the cop. If I didn't boost through the cop, two enemies would've spawned on the third floor while I reached the stairs on the second floor - scrolling enemies away while on stairs can be a real pain, and not to mention that you lose quite some time on doing it. Nevertheless, by boosting through the cop I even got better time when just scrolling the cop away, so no time lost :) The last level can be good in so many ways, I was actually pretty lucky to beat it with a tiny tiny bit of the last health bar by still having been hit by the Terminator twice. I too, hope that this gets published someday!

Good job, a mild Yes vote from me.

"I'm going to turn around for a split second, and when I turn back around, you'd better be gone!" Potentially boring, but somehow fun to watch. I approve.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

Not too great, but too short to be that bad. I vote weak yes. P.S: do the sega-cd one instead!

Goddammit this. That sound track was great and the game wasn't too far behind.

I gotta say, this run was very entertaining. I've been TASing this game for 3 years, and you pulled off glitches that I didn't even know existed. Definite Yes vote from me. Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for your post in this thread, Nisto. It explained to me a bit about the game's workings, but it also showed us that you know the game. After watching the submission, I can see that it's really much cleaner than before in terms of technical proficiency. The wobbles to control spawns are a lot smoother, for instance. At this point, I think the run is short enough to be too boring. Some nice tricks as well lead to a Yes vote.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I didn't find this game really entertaining that being said, i'm not going to vote no because it has been TASed well. Ill give it a meh vote, leaning towards yes.

Meh vote. For someone who doesn't know the game this was incredibly boring.

I probably should have voted no due to how painful this was to watch in its entirety... especially since this was only 5 minutes worth of video :( I did vote meh, though.

Tech quality is acceptable, but gameplay is just too much slow-paced running around. I really do not think a run of this game will ever reach the point of being publishable. Voting no.

This TAS is gradually getting better with each new submission… this time I believe it actually qualifies for publication. And I had a couple laughs thanks to it. Yes vote.

I'd have published this right now... except there is no Standard Definition encode available. This is the suggested preoptimized screenshot (The game isn't... good for screenshots), I'll publish this as soon as either an encode is made by someone else or someone else publishes it for me, hehehe.

Why do we need another encode of it? You posted links to a pair of encodes in the 7th post in this topic. Maybe you forgot it? Nevertheless, I'm very excited that this was accepted!

Congratulations Nisto! Flygon, I don't have the movie available from my work computer, but if you want a screenshot, you should probably get one from the giant first enemy that Nisto jumps through. Your suggested screenshot is pretty good too.

Those are HD encodes, which are too large of a resolution to meet the publication guidelines. I'm working on a normal encode now.

Yes, a screenshot of when I jump through the tank would be a great idea! Aha, I see, sgrunt. While we're at it, might I ask how you encoded that run in HD, Flygon? I always get some annoying blue line on the left of the video. And the video you encoded looks so much clearer than my encoding attempts. The usable encoders are pretty limited too, because most can't record 16-bit colors.

Something like this for the screenshot, then? Flygon and company have written an HD encoding guide which can be found at http://tasvideos.org/HighDefinition/HowToContribute.html - if you care to know more about the standard encoding process, check out these two pages: http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/MakingAVI/Common/Windows.html and http://tasvideos.org/EncoderGuidelines.html EDIT: Encode will be here: http://www.archive.org/download/GenesisTheTerminatorIn0520.88ByNisto/terminator-tas-nisto.mp4 Stream of that file specifically will be at http://www.zexsoft.com/aktan/?GenesisTheTerminatorIn0520.88ByNisto/terminator-tas-nisto

Since the support for the tank screenshot seems overwhelming, I'll use that instead. I initially didn't use it because... well, I don't know. When it is 11:30PM, logic for me goes out the window.
