This is a 1-minute improvement over Nitsuja’s published run.

Emulator details

  • Recorded on snes9x-1.51-rerecording-svn92
  • Use WIP Timing - on
  • Left+Right/Up+Down - off
  • Volume Envelope Height Reading - off
  • Fake Mute desync workaround - on
  • Sync samples with sound CPU - on

Game objectives

  • Aims for fastest time
  • Controlls 2 characters
  • Manipulates luck
  • Abuses programing errors

Lag reduction

Entering an exit causes 3-frame lag per 1 player, so 2 players didn’t enter the exit at once. Some of boss battles limit special performance due to lag. In 4-8, there wasn’t much I could do.

About movie end

Putting bombs horizontally allows stopping key input much faster than the last boss being beaten if I throw a bomb to the bomb’s line from the edge of it.

  • Nitsuja and Amilala, for their works. I got some ideas, from their runs, on how to make boss battles and 5-1 entertaining.

Very nice improvement and entertaining throughout, even the potentially dull 5-1. Yes vote from me.

I'll encode that if noone minds. EDIT: I haven't noticed the Author's encode link. Ignore this post.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

Thanks for the YouTube link! This was spectacular. The playarounds on 3-8 and 5-1 merit a Yes vote all by themselves, and the input ending was really clever. Out of curiosity, there's been one No vote lately on a bunch of these runs. What's objectionable here?
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:

From the previous run that this obsoletes:
Nitsuja wrote:
Because each level starts with a decently long period of invincibility, the optimal thing to do is the really cheap thing to do: lay down tons of bombs and walk around the level as a giant chain-reaction explosion before the invincibility runs out. While cheap, it works wonders and fills the screen with explosions, so I abused it as much as possible in every single level. When not invincible, a single hit from any explosion or contact with any monster means instant death AND loss of most powerups collected.

Improvement of an existing movie and it showcases some nice playarounds while waiting, so it should definitely be published.

I remember I used this "trick" in almost everysingle Bomberman title when possible... obviously not as perfectly as this TAS runs. The boss battles and the whole world 5 made me giggle as a little girl, voting Yes.

Yes vote granted! But why did in somes stages your improviments were negavite? due to luck manipulation or enemy position/behavior?

The arena part saved the run, and it's an improvement, so we'll go yes I guess. But god damn. If I was playing this game and was met with...that pathetic excuse for an ending, I'd be pissed. I mean, I don't ask for much, but that was the lamest collapse of a tower I've seen in a video game. And it's in a game about blowing shit up, no less. What happens to the villains at the end? Exploded to hell and back, to smithereens, or at least just blackfacing? Nope, just kicked so hard in the nads they die or something.

The two main bad guys do the same thing Dr. Wiley does at the end of most Megaman games. I think they are doing some kind of worship thing or apology thing.

Got a chance to watch this, and, uh, the second boss is Clown Ben Franklin? I suggest a screenshot from around here (taken from 4:20 in the YouTube encode): Voting yes, of course. Great work, Ryuto! The playarounds during the bosses, and the humiliation of the AI bombermen in the arena, were much appreciated.

There's some little trick that bomberman throws a bomb to a weird direction as you can see in the arena. It allows to do more special performances.

Luck can be manipulated only at the title screen, so some of stage layouts were not better than Nitsuja's run.

Wow! That was amazing! I loved watching the playing around (throwing bombs back and forth while having the bad guys trapped). It was funny. I never really like any of the Bomberman games because I never get enough player to really enjoy playing it. But this TAS makes it fun to watch. Voting yes.
