This runs is Faster at the latest nes run by 7 secondes but 19 secondes Lost at the beginning of the movie
Thinks to Shinryuu for his Megaman 6 runs

FractalFusion: While I think it would be nice to have versions of MM1-6 with instant weapon switching, I agree with numerous others that the quality is not up to par. If a better version was made, I think it would stand a good chance of being accepted. See the discussion thread for details.
I'm rejecting the run. Better luck next time.

Apart from this is a pretty unoptimized run, this version is bad compared with the good old nes version. Voting no.

I agree. The original version is preferred to any remakes, and we already have a good run of the original published. Voting No.

I watched the encode (thanks!) and I agree that there are just too many sloppy, unoptimized parts in this run. I'm not against having the PS version alongside the original NES run, but if we're going to have a second run of the game, shouldn't it be at least equal in quality to the original? I'm voting "no" to this run but I'm open to supporting future improvements...

I think that's a great idea to TASing all of the complete works games thanks to the instant weapon switching, remixed music and lagless gameplay. A lot of things in MM1 and 2 are lag-based, so TASing the CW versions would cause a very different experience! Yes vote for the idea, even if this run could be done better.

Zipping isn't lag based. And I have tested out a bit of Rockman Complete Works 1, and the engine is identical to the NES version, and zipping is still present. (Even worse, it's not possible to instant switch to Magnet Beam so about half of the weapon switches would still be there). And half of the music isn't remixed. So TASing RCW1 would be a bad idea. (I think RCW2 would have the same issues as well). The best RCW games to TAS are 4, 5 and 6, IMO.

Yeah, 6 may actually be the best choice for this, because you get the useful Rush armors without the lengthy "screen fades in, screen slides over, screen fades out" bit for them. And I think the level selection screen had the only song taken from the arcade game.

Can you quick-switch to the Super Arrow in RCW5? That weapon is used a ton in the current run, and not having to go into the menu would be nice...

Even though this run is clearly very unoptimized, I really enjoyed it thanks to the instant weapon switching. If someone could hack that into the NES games I would be so happy. I think someone here started doing that but never finished.

I know, but I meant the "instant stage clear" in MM1 and the unusual screen transitions(the ones in Air and Bubbleman's stage) in 2 are lag-based.

There are some MM5 hacks that have wepon switching, like Rockman 5: Wily's Dream Space, so it's definitely possible.

This is really unoptimized. I agree a run should be done on this edition, but this one isn't that one. Voting no.

I really don't think that would be a good idea. There was/is a reason why we couldn't instantly switch weapons. What I am trying to say is, we have to respect the structure of old games. I feel that if we would implement a hack for said purpose, we would be dishonoring the spirit and the structure of the game.

I don't think there was any other reason beyond that they just didn't think of it or that they thought it didn't add enough functionality to warrant a clumsy controller scheme. I'm absolutely sure if the original creators of the NES Mega Man games were to remake the games for a newer system they would add quick weapon switching. For MM9 they decided to honor the old games and not add it but thankfully they realized their mistake by the time they were making MM10. And dishonoring the structure and spirit of the game? You wouldn't call the glitched MM1 and MM2 runs dishonoring the structure and spirit of the games? Yet we still enjoy them immensely. Fan modifications and improvements definitely do not dishonor the games they are made for. Many old games would be almost unplayable on current computers if it wasn't for active fansites that release mods and fixes for them. Try playing Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate 2 without any mods and you'll see. I'm not saying that runs with quick weapon switching should replace the original runs if quick weapon switching became available, but in the case of MM6 for example it would just make the game much more fluent and pleasant to watch and add so much to the entertainment value that it would warrant a run of its own.

I've been a fan of MM6 and I had loved the NES version run the game. Sadly this run does not deliver much. As most above me has said, this run isn't quite optimized and there were quite a bit of sloppy things going on... My vote for this run is No.

If I could vote on this run, my vote would be No, due to the sloppy and unoptimized nature of the run (can't vote yet, haven't posted enough). That said, I would like to see a properly-optimized TAS of this version of MM6 done. :-) --Arek

It clearly has less glitches than NES version .... but there is something to it that looks very much better, that is the weapon changing, I guess. .. voted Meh >.>

Initially, I thought that the charm in weapon switching would be enough to get a favorable reaction from everyone. In fact, I liked the run when I first saw it. But now that I have watched it at least twice, and carefully compared it to the Mega Man 6 published run, I no longer like it. One of the things that bugs me a lot is that the run doesn't really do instant weapon changing much justice. Mothrayas may have pointed out earlier, but I'll point out some things: * This run does Wind Man first, then Flame Man, like the published MM6 run. Wouldn't it be better to do Flame Man first to get the Rush Jet Adaptor? The Rush Jet Adaptor stands to gain a lot of use now because of instant weapon changing, and it would be useful in Wind Man's stage. * This run takes the lower boss door to Centaur Man rather than the higher door, like the published MM6 run. Now that one can switch instantly to Rush Jet Adaptor, wouldn't it be better to take the higher door? * This run takes damage, twice, on the shield cannon things in Mr. X's stage 1, like the published MM6 run. Wouldn't it be better just to kill them? Certainly, it is possible, since both this run and the published run kill a shield cannon in Knight Man's stage! Of course, the published run can't afford to change weapons, but this run does not have that excuse. So, you see, the point of doing this run is supposed to be to enable all kinds of upper hands to situations like these. This run doesn't seem to understand the point of what instant weapon switching is able to do, beyond "instant switching makes it faster than the published run" and "Rush Jet Adaptor is a bit faster than climbing a ladder". As pointed out by Mothrayas, there are other problems as well, such as luck manipulation of boss patterns, late hits on bosses, extra missed shots that make it look sloppy, and poor choices (fly over or take damage on some Mettool instead of just killing it?). Although I would like an old Mega Man 1-6 TAS with instant weapon switching on this site, I agree with the others that this shouldn't be the one. I vote no.

Ah that's right, and Power MegaMan punches through most shields, so it would be worth testing whether switching to Rush Power for just the charge-up time would be helpful in getting through shielded enemies faster!

Yammato Spear pierces through all types of shields, and it doesn't even need to charge up.

Not to be that guy, but you get the Rush Power Adaptor from Flame Man. I can't imagine too many places in Wind Man's stage where it would be useful, though.

Ah, really? I only noticed a couple of shielded enemies the Spear worked on, whereas the Power punch worked on almost everything, but maybe I'll have to play through again and make a damage table or something.
