I highly doubt that it would be possible to use that shortcut without the bounce attack, since it is what makes the gravity broken, but I prefer to be wrong in this case =) I'm happy to see some progress on this TAS man! Edit: In case you guys haven't seen it, this has been on my HD for many months: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlzRJk5Na1o

It's definitely possible to shift gravity without using bounce--I've done it with Shadow, to allow the Final Chase low-rail route of 2--but I don't know the window for pressing B well enough to make it consistent.

Bounceball doesn't break gravity. The game keeps track of two "downs". One is absolute down (which can actually change in the case of Crazy Gadget). The other is where sonic's feet are. Whenever you leave the ground, the game has to transition from sonic's feet to absolute down, but it's possible to delay, interrupt, or even completely prevent this transition. The bounceball is merely the most versatile technique for that purpose, as it can be timed for any of those purposes. Rail transfers are actually the most likely to prevent the transition entirely. Homing attacks can rarely do more than delay. I don't know whether cancelling a HA with B or X changes that.

I understand completely how it works, by "break" I meant making it do whatever you want it to do. The only thing I haven't seen/done yet since I developed this technique is making Sonic fall upwards. And as you said, the homing attack itself don't have this much power to really control gravity, unless you use some other force to aid you, like the one that pulls you towards the inner side of the loops, with it's help a homing attack can do cool things, but without anything like that, I doubt it can get any result close to what the bounce does at that part of the stage.

So, Andy and I [finally] finished up City Escape and did Big Foot. After checking Wild Canyon emerald positions...we were surprised (and overjoyed :P) to find that on the first frame possible, there is a rather good emerald setup. That's the update so far, but I also have a question for everyone here: Would you guys prefer a just Hero run for now since it would take about half the time to make? After that, we could go back and have something to compare to/beat and do Dark as well (I think a full any% would obsolete a just Hero run?). Hope to hear some thoughts! Onto Wild Canyon. =)

Great news! I think it's better to do just Hero side for now, since we don't have anything completed at all to begin with, later on you can do just as you said, that's my vote.

Yeah, the best would be making an optimized (or at least a very good) TAS of Hero Side and them make a TAS with every stories completed.

Alright, I guess Hero TAS it is! btw, I got 11 seconds exactly with a moderately optimal test run of Wild Canyon using the layout we got entering the level first frame, we got amazingly lucky with this placement.

Lowered it to 10:17, still trying for more. Edit: 10:10. Still think a couple more can come off with this method. Edit 2: 9:99 =)

I was able to do that in Aquatic Mine once, but never could find the trigger for making it happen again.

Regarding the Hero run, I just finished Prison Lane tonight. Depending on what itsPersonnal thinks when he's on in the morning, we'll either be improving PL or moving onto Metal Harbor. The final time at the moment is 1:27:97. For the record, the non-TAS record *with* upgrades is 1:31:04. Expect a full WIP after Green Forest. Edit: So after itsPersonnal pointed out a timesaver, we lowered the time to 1:27:65. Then I realized something retarded I did that wasted 61 frames much earlier in the level. Guess I shouldn't have tried to be entertaining while jumping onto the elevator. <_<

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD-dPV2HNDg I haven't tested, but I don't see why this wouldn't work on every other wall-with-a-ledge-thing-sticking-out-of-it. So I see a lot of potential time saved. Also here's a Security Hall M3 TAS in 12.70 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF9V9wvMKYo It doesn't use the wall running, but itsPersonnal and I are redoing it now with the wall running. :P
