Whoa, hold on a sec. Where was Bisqwit being condescending? Is he not allowed to make a statement and defend himself when someone objects to him posting relevant material to the topic thread?
Sorry, but all I've seen on here so far is opportunistic jabs at his faith for not living up to an ideal image of how a Christian is "supposed" to conduct themselves. To my knowledge, a Christian is simply someone who places their trust in a Higher Authority to deliver them from their sins; not someone who needs to live up to everyone's expectations to be perfect.
Bisqwit, in my view, you did nothing wrong by sharing relevant topic material. You have every right to post whatever you feel contributes to a thread on here.

I wouldn't have anything against it e.g. Truncated annotated his posts with a few relevant references that help explain who that person is and what he is known for.
I figured that the Russians here would already know very well who he was, and most other people would go "wat who?" like I did. And if they wanted to find out, Google is pretty user-friendly.

In short, he was a world-class cellist, in the opinion of some the best cellist of all time. But he's also well-known for being a dissident in the Soviet Union, defending human rights. He lived in exile in the US between 1974 and 1990 because of that.
I had much the same reaction as Warp to your post, by the way. It's not that talking about Christianity or religion is "banned" or anything, it's that you bring it up when it's not the topic of discussion.
For what it's worth, i also thought Bisqwit's post was a bit inappropriate for this topic. The links should not have been included imo, and it may have been wise to not go into so much detail about who they are.
But then, i also think there was no need to call him out for it the way you did, warp. It seems to me that it would have made more sense to send a pm saying you didn't think it belonged, and asked him to edit it.
I met Carice van Houten: a Dutch actress, probably most well known for her role in Game of Thrones (Melisandre). All other people famous to me don't even have their own English wikipedia page, so I'm not going to bother listing them. Suffice to say most are magicians.

To clarify: When antd commented on Bisqwit's original post, he defended it by saying that they are famous in some circles and why. My intention was to point out that his post didn't come off as annoying because of mentioning some unknown people, but because of the religious undertones, which can feel opportunistic and irk people (which is why I mentioned that it would have been the same if someone had similarly used the opportunity to promote some other world view.) Surely he can understand how his post can give this impression.
My post (and especially the followups) sounded harsher that was my intention. My mental diplomacy filter was not turned on in such a familiar environment as this.

This is why I hardly visit this forum anymore, nor did I really get involved with it in the first place; everything becomes an arguement. Why can't people just chill out and discuss things without getting into an arguement over something they'll probably forget in a week?
Going over the edge helps to figure out the edge itself (between geeks and nerds :D). It's just some people learn the lesson, and some can only stagnate in repetition. It's a very interesting place too, when you need to find out something related, or enjoy the real results.

Some may know that I act on Japanese TV and movies. Unless you know Japanese stars you probably wouldn’t know anyone I am about to list but they are pretty famous in Japan at least.
I met 宮崎あおい (Aoi Miyazaki) and Patrick Harlan (Patrick Harlan) for the filming of 蝶々さん (Miss Butterfly).
She was really nice and polite on the set, while Patrick was a total dick. He even got into a fight with one of the extras. I don’t know why they were fighting; I only started listening when I heard Patrick say, “Asshole”.
I later met and started dating 白咲姫香 (Himeka Shirosaki), a famous singer and creator of a fashion line of clothing for kids and teenagers.

I wasn’t allowed to use her real name (I had to use a nick name) in public when we would go out to eat etc. Sometimes she would hide her face to avoid recognition. In the end no one ever came up for her autograph or anything but that would be a major mood killer.
More recently I did a shoot for a show called Miss Pilot where I got to do scenes with most of the people here.
First-off it was amazing just to get to do acting at TOHO Studios inside one of the studios actually used for the filming of some Godzilla movies.
I mean once you have actually been on the actual set used for some Godzilla movies and paid to do some acting there, your life is basically complete.
For this show I was a pilot. For the most part I didn’t interact with the main cast, but I injured myself off-screen (cut my finger on my wings (the little wings they attach to your suit to show you are a pilot) while brushing off my suit) to which the main stars reacted in a way that just had, “Holy ouch,” written all over it.
I did a shoot with 佐野元春 (Sano Motoharu) in which we both died in an airplane explosion in a TV drama called SPEC ～零～.
The co-director remembered me and hired me back for the filming of the movie version (just released in theaters 2 months ago) called SPEC～結～漸ノ篇. I died again, this time with 遠藤憲一 (Endo Kenichi).
He played the leader of China (he speaks Chinese and English fluently) and I played the leader of America, and, true to the Japanese stereotype of America, I was very aggressive, called some Japanese a “yellow monkey”, and he turned around and killed all the world leaders, including Endo. My bad?
He was really nice and humble and he laughed at a lot of my jokes.
Most recently we just finished filming a movie called 万能鑑定士Q ―モナ・リザの瞳― (Blah blah blah Q Mona Lisa Blah Blah) where I got to meet the woman of my dreams, 初音映莉子 (Eriko Hatsune).
I have never been so infatuated with a celebrity before. Watching how she behaved while the cameras were off—she’s weird but in a really adorable way. Child-like but not childish.
We talked a lot and I got the feeling she was a little bit into me too. She laughed at everything I said (no, not mockingly) and she was super nice. When her co-star Louis Garrel did some freak dance in which he lost his balance and nearly fell into me, and I reacted by jumping back and saying, “Whoa there,” in his embarrassment he tried to save face by saying, “Mah, he is American,” to which she reacted with a very stern, “I do not approve of this comment,” face.
I spent a lot of time staring at her and she spent a lot of time staring back, and not in an uncomfortable way. At one point we were so strongly locked in gazes she didn’t notice the director calling her name until the 4th time.
I definitely want to meet her again and if the chance presents itself I am definitely going to ask her out.

I wouldn't say I am very knowledgeable, but I only recognized Patrick Harlan and Louis Garrel. And well, Garrel is a French actor, not Japanese, so no points to me for that.
Anyway, this got me thinking, actually I know someone reasonably famous in Japan as well: Camilla. (She seems to go by only her first name in Japan.) She works as a model and actor and turns up in CMs every now and then. The most well-known show she has been in was probably Nihonjin no shiranai nihongo where she played Elene.
We had common friends in Sweden and used to go to the same parties. I've met her once in Japan after that.

I have met a lot of mixed martial artists/BJJ guys; Karo Parisyan, Manny Gamburyan, Jean-Jacques Machado, Jens Pulver, Marcelo Garcia, Mac Danzig, Daniel Cormier, etc. Everyone I just mentioned was an absolute sweetheart; really polite and easy-going. Sadly, I have yet to meet my idols Gegard Mousasi or Fedor Emelianenko. :(
Oh, and from chess, I have met a lot of grandmasters who probably aren't famous, as well as Garry Kasparov back in the day. Amusingly, newly-crowned world champion Magnus Carlsen was in the Bay Area recently, and one of my friends got to meet him. I didn't, and am slightly jealous of that fact. Then again, my friend is a GM, whereas I'm just a lowly Expert...
