When you're looking at the round times you will see spike times which means it's higher than 1.68, this is due to changing the input as it's either due to the AI charging or AI ducking during the slap or that the AI hits when Spinning Harakiri.

Quick Rundown on previous TASes:

The First submission used Law and had an in-game time of 1'43"81
The next submission used King which had an in-game time of 1'25"93
The third run (which was not submitted) used Yoshimitsu with an in-game time of 50"28.
This is a 35"98 TAS which uses the fastest moves of Yoshimitsu to finish of the fights.

Possible Improvements (with the joys of RNG):

  • During the first round with Lei it's possible to finish him in 147 frames (32 frame improvement) but all the frames are lost when you reach the first round of King.
  • Round 2 of Jun was only forced as there was no way to hit her faster.
  • Somehow it's possible to finish a round in 99 frames... which cannot be replicated anywhere else.
  • Shark Attack is the fastest move BUT when done on hard mode it's the easiest move to avoid.
  • Please, please, please, please, PLEASE! if you think you can improve on my errors complete the whole TAS it's a painful TAS to complete as it takes a long time to do.

This is awesome. (Even if the awesomeness lasts only a few days.) Never would I have dreamed it possible to finish each battle (round) in 2.98s or less in a fighting game, and with almost all of them under 2 seconds. And the way it is done here confirms why Yoshimitsu is the best character ever. Yes vote.

After reading in your submission text that you thought this might end up in the Vault, I was surprised to be very entertained by this run. I even found it quite humorous how you dispatched all those tough-looking fighters with only two moves and took mortal damage many times over in the process (especially in the final fight's slow-motion instant replay). Yes vote!

No vote. It was tedious and pretty much exemplifies why fighting games that aim for pure speed often don't translate well to entertainment.

I still can't say I was entertained by this, but I am glad to see that this is now much more precisely run and efficiently done. It's funny to see the Harikiri move used so much, but it wasn't entertaining enough for me to vote anything other than No. (It's sort of like the run of Bushido Blade II, which is really optimized with a really repetitive result.) That being said, good job with polishing this.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... GENIUS!!! Especially the end of fight with Jun after you get used to WTF happens. Probably this is even more impressive for those who don't know the game (only after a few iterations you notice Yoshimitsu doesn't actually die from seppuku).

I think, apart from the repetitiveness which other people have mentioned, the problem from an entertainment perspective is demonstrated by the title of the Youtube encode: "Tekken 2 in 2:20.63 (35.98 in-game)". So three-quarters of the running-time of this TAS is not watching frame-perfect fights, it's watching loading screens. Ironically, the faster a TAS of this kind becomes, the greater the proportion of it in which nothing happens at all. I agree with hegyak: it's a Vault movie, but it's a good Vault movie.

This is exactly what happened to me. It was nice. Made me smile. I guess this is the best "aims for speed" fighting TAS that I have seen.

Doesn't in-game time pause whenever someone dies? But the fight is still ongoing. So your claim that 'three quarters of the TAS is loading screens' is wrong.

Well, you aren't exactly "fighting" during the times the opponent falls to the ground since you're busy clenching your stomach. Also, I'm not sure if changing difficulty/Character selection in a fighting game can be considered "gameplay".

I found this movie very hilarious because of the strategy used that soo extreme. This TAS shows what a TAS can do. From what I can understand, the samurai trick is very hard to pull of since the range is very small... Not to mention the sacrifice that comes with it. But it delivers massive damage to the opponent. And that move is well exploited. A human player playing this game won't dare doing this move since it's so risky. Good job Spiky! :)
