They just got the Silph Scope. After the trolls died down, they were able to use Democracy to use the elevator and then get it. Now back to Anarchy time.

One time they managed to soft reset the game and start a new game, and the streamer has to load from save state.

Democracy mode does make the gameplay more boring, but we would probably still be at the TR HQ in the same maze if not because of it. Also, it will become necessary later in the game as well (eg. as was noted by most people, Safari Zone is basically impossible in anarchy mode.) Of course democracy is now being slightly "abused" for things that wouldn't really need it. On the other hand it's nice that eg. the TR HQ lift can be solved with it relatively quickly because watching it being attempted three times in the anarchy mode would have been pretty boring in itself. I think the anarchy vs. democracy tug war is a relatively good compromise. It gives the chance to pass those spots that would take days (or even longer) otherwise, but still allows the old mode to be used most of the time. (One could also argue that ledges that took a full day to bypass had their place in the beginning, but no more.) It also has produced memes of its own.

How can they soft reset the game when only one input button is transmitted at a time?

that’s exactly what I was wondering… I guess that there is some leniency? as in, taking 4 frames to ABStSl still works, I don’t know

Possibly the bot processes chat input faster than 60Hz, so multiple buttons could be pressed on one frame.

Pidgeot (last Pokemon remaining) vs. trainer's Gastly. Pidgeot with no chance of winning (not even Struggle) and Gastly with its accuracy lowered all the way needing Confuse Ray hit + self damage, or Night Shade hit, to end the battle. The epic battle finally ended a few minutes ago. It's not like there are any non-terrible battles, but the ones involving ghosts are beyond terrible, as well as funny. Edit: Apparently, the whole battle lasted over an hour.

I don't see an answer to that question in anything you posted.

I just assume its related to how the bot parse commands. :P

if select is disabled, that means attack moves can't be sorted around in battle slots :(

The bot parses commands from IRC channel. Because of the lags (and programmer proclaimed suboptimal code) the bot was feeding input as soon as it finished processing. AFAIK the soft reset combo was submitted individually (multiple users, different buttons). Explanation for the "start button not working" is probably he tried to implement helding instead presses, so the start button got stuck unless someone sent it again which would work for that frame and held it for the next ones again -> making it unusable again. Later he changed this mechanic.

Where/why do they keep getting pokeballs? Their situation was pretty nice. They had Pidgeot and one free spot for Lapras (to learn surf.) Then they f***ed it up by getting pokeballs. Now the free spot is gone, and they'll have to go to the pc again. High probability of "bye Pidgeot!" Well, I suppose it just can't last forever. It'll mean they'll have to grind for days to get another tank, if they end up releasing the bird. (Btw, how do they end up renaming some of the pokemon?)

Perhaps the most unintentionally amusing comment I have seen in the twitch chat: "dig out or commit sudoku"

Sudoku might be easier to do at this rate.

So far it seems that Safari Zone is an impossible hurdle. In anarchy mode it's obviously physically impossible to complete it. They invariably run out of steps or dig themselves out. Ironically, at least so far, democracy mode isn't helping either. Every time there's a random fight, people start voting 'a' to dismiss the popup, which carries on and proceeds to throw a ball. After that the only way to dismiss the popup is to press 'a'... and the votes keep carrying on for the next move which causes it to throw another ball... Thus they soon run out of balls, and back to square one. (Of course it doesn't help either that the anarchists do their damnest to halt any kind of progress.) The only way seems to be for them to either get their act together, or for the admin to hack the game and remove the step limit. Edit: It seems that there is some progress after all. The majority finally learned that 'b' can be used to dismiss messages. Edit 2: It succeeded more easily than I expected (once the majority learned of 'b' dismissing messages.) Welcome anarchy once again... :P

There's that twitch channel where you watch bots fight in a mugen game with random characters. So the first thing that came to mind when watching this was to set two groups of people and put them against each other on some vs. game, preferably street fighter or that mugen game. For controlled scenarios where you would know the amount of trolls was reduced or inexistent and the input was more responsive, it could be pretty interesting, especially if the groups have some rivalry. On the pokemon side of things, can someone make a graph of progress comparing the rng play vs. crowd play?

Actually a lot of people were ok for using Democracy for beating safari zone as is it very very unlikely to make it in less than 500 steps in Anarchy mode.
Warning: Might glitch to credits I will finish this ACE soon as possible (or will I?)
