Submission Text Full Submission Page
Hello, today I am submitting the greatest movie to ever grace this god-forsaken website. In this tool-assisted speedrun of Ocarina of Time, I complete it as fast as possible without using any doors; that is to say, I never press 'A' to open any sort of door anywhere in the run.
The previous route for this category (which you can view in 16:9 480p here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGeLcnaudnI) used a 'double wrong warp' with the Odd Mushroom Timer and Farore's Wind on B to wrong warp from Dodongo's Cavern to Deku Tree, and then from Deku Tree to the credits respectively. In this submission, I use the wrong warp commonly known as 'ganondoor' to warp straight to the tower collapse as used in any%, but not before gathering a few things to make that possible without using any doors.
After gathering enough rupees for 2 Deku Sticks and 1 set of Deku Nuts, I escape the forest using a common clip into the Zora River exit. After making my way to Kekariko and collecting the bottle, I navi dive into the Bottom of the Well and use a special glitch exclusive to the 1.0 version of the game to alter Link's collision and make my way to the bombchus, after which I use one of aformentioned chus to vine clip and swim out of bounds to collect the Master Shield, which I will need later in the run as adult Link. From here, it is a simple matter of making my way to the Taylor 'Temple of Time' For The Win and skipping the Door of Time with a nicely angled twisty sidehop to go adult.
Once I am fully grown, I go back to Kakariko and grab the hookshot from the Dampe race. This will be needed for a glitch later on in the run. After exiting Kakariko, I kill and then bottle a poe, then use quick-draw duplication to get a bottle on my B button and RBA the poe. This gives me 29 chus, which means I am now well equipped to start my last leg of the journey to performing ganondoor-less.
In Kokiri Forest, I hover on top of the trees to the unloaded Deku Tree area which allows me to enter the loading zone of the Deku Tree uninhibited. From here, I climb the spiral and perform a 'ground clip' to fall into out of bounds basement, where I jumpslash off an unloaded torch to get to the boss room loading zone. After killing Gohma, I use Ocarina Items on the edge of the warp to be able to move around very shortly after the initial warp cutscene.
This is the most critical part of the run. At this point, the most important thing is that I have the camera positioned in such a way that I am not looking too close to the warp or too far away from it, but at an angle which 'freezes' the timer that tells the game when to actually send you to the Deku tree cutscene. With the camera like this, I get ISG off of the closest thing I can (a bush- I have no bombs, damage ISG would be too slow, and getting ISG at all before Gohma dies doesn't matter because the death cutscene cancels it) and begin my hover by the door. It was recently discovered that using the 'quick-draw from explosive limit glitch' (seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3uWFYZBZKU), it is possible to store and ground jump anywhere, only using chus. I use this to my advantage here as I store the ground jump and use it to climb out of bounds on top of the stone slab that is blocking your exit towards the door I didn't come in through. Once I am on top of this stone slab, I let my camera look at the warp for a second or two to advance the warp timer to a certain value, then hover to the loading zone and again abuse the camera such that it begins taking me to the deku cutscene while it is also taking me to the previous room via loading zone.
After this, it's a simple matter of doing tower collapse skip and killing Ganon with the only weapon I have to do so until I can retrieve my sword: the hookshot.
IMPORTANT: If you get a desync after coming out of Zora's River as child, just replay the movie and it should work.

GoddessMaria: Judging.
GoddessMaria: Okay, first off, welcome to TASVideos. Now secondly, I have to say that this submission doesn't meet site qualifications and these are the reasons why things do not bode well for this submission.
  • This movie does not qualify for Vault Tier as it is not aiming for fastest completion.
  • The category that this movie is going for is considered to be too arbitrary.
  • Optimization is also an issue for this movie.
For those reasons, I am rejecting this movie. Better luck next time~

My Ninjaedit wasn't fast enough, it seems. In fact I can only think of one (the other ones, I have to confess, had slight problems): You get the hookshot as a child. That way you don't have to go back all the way through Kakariko as an adult. Getting into dampes grave as a kid can be done in ~3 chus.
wow, im actually disappointed I didn't think of that one lol. would have been cool, had no idea it was possible though

Now if that was in the run, I would have voted differently. That would have made this run much more unique!

There are real-time runs of this category. In fact, that's the entire reason why this TAS was made: because the old run was beaten in RTA.
Then if there's RTA run someone actually bothered to dethrone, I 100% think it should be accepted.

But the run should probably be vaulted for obvious reasons.
Um, my understanding is that the vault is only allowed to hold the current fastest any% and 100% runs, and that other categories have to be sufficiently entertaining for moons or else can't be formally accepted...

You would need the deku shield and to buy it you'd probably need the sword (or do some insane rupee manipulation), which would slow you down a little in botw, as you'd have to do the text-method of blank-A. But it should still come out way ahead. Especially considering that you can do a few slides as kid with the shield.

Maybe I'm misinformed. I always thought it was the other way around. The vault being for weird categories and stuff.

Goal choice is limited to fastest completion time (any%), or full-completion (such as 100% or best ending). Other goal choices are not eligible for this category.
So by definition this run can't be Vaulted. I think that it's a category with merit (and judging solely by reactions in the thread I'm not alone); Personally I'm just concerned that this was a WIP On The Workbench. @TaylorTotFTW: If you want to redo the run, you should be able to cancel this submission without penalty. It's worse to get rejected than to cancel because too many rejections will get you barred from submitting to the Workbench for I forget how long. If you don't have them yet, here's a link to Microstorage (where we upload runs that aren't candidates for submission), and here's a link to our Ocarina of Time thread (where you can post wips and get feedback without running into the formal procedures).

I view the poll as "is this a good publication on tasvideos?" Will decide this after watching.

I'm not really up to date. How are we able to get there using such a low number of chus? I thought you'd need at least 7-8. Oh and btw, No doors FTW :D

the run is nice and i found it entertaining , but i think that it's too close, trickwise, to the any % : you glitchthru doors and wrong warp to the end kind of the game ... it's like seeing a "no super jump route" in super metroid, exept it's compared to a faster "no ice beam route". this run is nice and fun, but i don't think it should be published here. i'll simply abstain from voting.

yeah actually I talked to a few other OoT TASers about this and it seems like it's not really clear how you would do this quickly at all without sling, which you obviously cannot get. Combine this with the fact that you also have to get shield and probably sword, and I'm not sure it would be that much faster if even possible at all under those conditions. Maybe I'm missing something but yeah also thanks Grunz and everyone else :)

I found this extremely interesting and very enjoyable to watch. There are lots of tricks I hadn't seen in published runs. I don't recall ever having seen the door glitch in Dampe's grave. I was assuming you'd do a save/reset there to get out and you got crushed to get back to the entrance. Since there aren't any 100% runs which include all hearts (and I'd say that wouldn't be publish-worthy because it would be incredibly slow) this is the first time I've seen that. I also liked the bug/poe bottle glitch to get more bombchus. However, I'm voting 'Meh' because it is an arbitrary category. It's 12 minutes slower than the current any% and this is, at best, any%+. I don't know that it needs to be published if it doesn't break a record or show off some game-breaking techniques. Yes, it's possible to go to almost any important room without using a door and fighting Gohma as Adult Link is almost as impressive as fighting Ganon as child Link, but it just doesn't feel publish-worthy.

Almost every category that isn't any% uses it.

The question is "Did you find this move entertaining?", nothing more.

I don't recall doesn't mean "I've never seen it". I just don't remember.

This is why I voted "Meh" instead of "No". I did find it entertaining, but not as a replacement for anything currently published.

Decent TAS, some of the tricks used surprised me. I still personally feel if another category should be added it should be that Ganon-less one. Weak yes vote.

I think it would be more impressive if No Doors can be done in a category that accomplishes more of the game. How would max% no doors look?

max% no doors would be pretty boring. However, what WOULD have a very interesting route would be All Dungeons No Doors. It as actually very close to being possible, the only thing stopping it from happening right now are the 2 doors in between the iron knuckle fight and twinrova in spirit temple. If we could skip those doors somehow, as far as I know doorless All Dungeons should be possible to complete.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjPaEkhAtLw using this concept you can BA boomerang on B and then wrong warp from DC to Deku and then from Deku to Barinade.
