Post subject: An idea for rejected submissions

I was thinking, what if all rejected and cancelled submissions would be gathered together and moved to an own forum dedicated for such? This way they would not take space in submission queue and it'd maybe look better. This forum could be called something like "rejected and cancelled submissions", or maybe something more imaginative. :) Any thoughts?

The rejected and cancelled submissions don't show in the queue unless you look hard for them... But if you mean in the forums, it's not a bad idea. It's pretty obvious, to me at least, that all locked topics in the queue are to be avoided.

It is a neat idea but I don't know if it's needed. A run that is rejected is usually (not always) breaking some rule, like using a hacked game, or submitting a run with almost no rerecords, etc. Otherwise the games seem to remain in "new" status. A run that is canceled is usually being re-improved by the author or someone else, and that topic is handled already by the individual games. However, there could be situations where it's useful. Maybe when a run is canceled, have the option whether or not to lock the topic for the author, and when rejected, for the one who rejects the run. That way, interesting canceled/rejected movies could still be discussed.

I woulden't mind seeing the locked topics move to it's own thread called something like "Closed cases" or what ever. Because it's highly likley that a submitted movie will get dropped to the bottom before someone remembers it and bumps it. I think this idea is good to not burry all active submissions in dirt of canceled and rejected subjects. The reason to save closed topics is to look for answers and information that might have been given etc. It's always good to save it for some reason. :) So this is a YES-vote from me. Make a new thread with locked/canceled/rejected submissions.

I'm also voting yes, due to the fact that it can also show newbies how not to do things in a speed run.

If they are going to be moved to a separate forum, they might as well also be unlocked (except for individual threads that become too obnoxious, as is the case in all the other forums). Sometimes people have still had things to say specifically about a run after it was cancelled, and had to either post in a different forum or wait for a new submission to say them.

I've been thinking about this a little. Even though I think the numbers of forums is getting pretty big, this is a good idea. The undecided submissions often get buried in the rejects and the canceled ones.

I'd like to see this too. It doesn't make sense for active and rejected movies to be in the same place.

Hmm, not sure how I missed this two month old topic but it sounds like a very good idea to me. We could have "Published Movies," "Workbench," and "The Morgue."

Doesn't seem to rhyme. But I'll consider this idea.

How about "Dust Bin?" "Trash Can?" "Refuse Receptacle?" "Sanitary Wipes?" "Buried at 3 AM on a Remote Beach?" "Fork in the Eye'd?" "Big Bad Bugeyed Babyeating O'Brian?"

What's so interesting about rejected/cancelled movies? 1st. You can discuss them in Nes section because if you have suggestions, it will be easier to find them there. 2nd. Lot of them are submissions that doesn't interest anybody or/and have been watched by a judge and decided that it won't worth to be discussed anymore. 3rd. Those runs are easy to find and aren't in the queue list like Fihlvein said. When I check there, http://tasvideos.org/queue.cgi , I only see new submissions.

Some submissions don't use rerecords at all, others have gotten a better version, and some were just plain boring... I think those are the reasons submissions are rejected, and I don't really know what could be discussed at a separate forum for these submission, that can't be discussed at the nes games forum.

The thing about rejected submissions is it discourages constructive critism. The thread is locked. For some movies this isn't really an issue, as not enough effort was put in. However, for other who were rejected on a technicality (such as non-clean SRAM or something) but were still good movies (or movies that were not quite good enough but close) discussion on improvement can take place there. If this were to happen in the Workbench there would be confusion as to which movies were rejected and which are pending.

Since the forum for accepted movies is simply called "Published movies", why be concrete? Just name it "Rejected submissions".

No, I meant Big Bad Bugeyed Babyeating O'Brian. You know, from the Muppet Treasure Island roll call.

That's an intriguing name but I don't wish to put him on a pedestal :)

the new section's name reminds me something... And I thought Zork was an obscure enough quote as a signature :)
