Submission Text Full Submission Page
Hello everyone,after my last movie,I decide to make a TAS for Mega Man Zero 3 100% Completetion and this movie is faster than the current run by 1m:42s

Details

  • 100% Completetion
  • Luck Manipulation
  • Programing errors abused
  • Aims for fastest time possible

Switching to J version reason:

the graphic in "J ver" is very good.This is 2 examples:
  • when you hit or defeat or beat a boss or an enemie,the healte extract from it.
  • :after clearing the game by beating Omega Zero,X's soul call Zero with his voice not with writing

Nothing mush to explaine,if you want more info about the disks,Ex Skill,route see MMZ3 100% Submission

My Personel Comment:

  • Making a TAS for Mega Man Zero 3 is very very difficult,it takes from me 13 days for making(for 100% run)
  • Luck Manipulation is very hard on J version,I lose same seconds for that.Sorry

Noxxa: Setting to "needs more info" until there's an accurate gameplay time comparison, compared to the published run.
Noxxa: A comparison video has been made by mtvf1. In conclusion, 6377 frames are gained by dialogue, but 262 frames are lost by worse gameplay.
Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: As shown in the comparison video, the gameplay of this TAS is actually slower than that of the published run. Therefore, rejecting.

How much time was saved by text differences (due to switching from USA to JPN)? This could be an important factor in judging this run, comparing it to the previous run.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

The author also states that he loses several seconds due to luck manipulation. It would be nice if the author could provide where the actual non-text improvements are. He only cites graphical improvements.

I think about all time saved is from switching
I still learn more about English. https://www.youtube.com/user/McBobX100

Note that it's stated in the Movie Rules that text differences between languages do not count towards obsoleting a movie.
Movie Rules wrote:
Keep in mind that time gained solely through basic ROM differences will be discounted for the purpose of comparison. This includes:
  • time gained through shorter cutscene text and speech boxes due to Japanese writing being more compact;
[*]differences in title screen, cutscenes, and menus (unless menus are the game's main control interface).[/list] Only actual gameplay improvements will be considered. For example:
  • there's a published movie made on a (U) ROM;
  • the title screen for this game takes 100 frames less on a (J) ROM;
  • a movie made on a (J) ROM is submitted, that is 101 frames faster than the movie made on a (U) ROM.
The improvement to be judged in this example is just 1 frame; the 100 frame gain from a shorter title screen is discounted. It is up to the author to do the math and elaborate upon the version differences during the submission process. The more information you present, the easier it will be to judge your movie.
If there is no improvement, then this movie cannot be accepted to obsolete the other run. (In fact, you stated that you lost time due to luck manipulation, which means it would comparison-wise be slower than the published run. This definitely means it can't be accepted.) This also applies for the other run you submitted.

After watching it, i think this run is faster than mine (ignoring text), it has better execution and movement strategies on some stages. In the other hand, i think some parts can be faster. The mini boss of Mantisk could be better, making it die on the right side of the camera instead of left, this manipulation could be done by wall-jumping on the falling floor part. I also think that Kelverian boss fight could be faster, i think my strategy is faster than yours, though, i can clearly see you made this because you couldn't get better luck. Im a bit confused about going to the fourth room and then third on Biblio's stage, you still managed to beat him on the second round. You did that just to use saber thrust? I also noticed that you watched my TAS carefuly to make yours, thanks for making such a great run. I still want to know how much time you saved ignoring text though. When i get the time i will watch your other run.

Unless if its a run of a popular game like Oot. Someone should compare every room to check the differences.

The result is probably worse w/o luck manip.

So, would it be possible to incorporate the author's improvements into the existing run? Would it be easier on a (U) rom, since luck manip is harder on the (J)? Or is there something on the (J) rom that is used in the current improvements? As it currently stands, it sounds like some spots are done worse than the currently published run, and thus little to no improvement on the overall time. The current difference, according to the author, is mostly text which doesn't count towards judging.

I think this all can be done on the (U) version, and personally, i don't think that the (J) version differs from (U) on luck manipulation. To be 100% sure i would need the RNG adresses, wich i don't have.

TAS COMPARISON: Part1 Part2 Sorry, I have to vote no. In fact, this run is slower than the published run except text, though McBobX improved in some place. In too many place, McBobX, you should do better indeed. For example, you lost too much time in this. Did J rom's enemies are more than U rom's? I'm interesting in this place. Is it some thing different between U and J? Zero is nearer the door in J rom. But I only found it happened twice in the mission. Or is it means there are some faster way to through the doors? This is the comparison avisynth file what I made. I hope it can help the judge, because of more info. And I hope this comparison can help someone to improve in the future. I haven't made another comparison. Maybe wait 1 or 2 weeks later. The GBA's comparison is very hard to make, because VBA always output 1 more frames about per 200 frames. Which version I used, VBA-rr v23.5 svn421. edit: I forget to say maybe there are 1 or 2 frames faster or slower in the middle of this comparison, because VBA always output 1 more frames about per 200 frames.

Thanks for the comparison video, mtvf1. It's very helpful indeed.

Thanks mtvf1 for making such a helpful encode. I know it's a little bit late, but i will answer some questions now:
Did J rom's enemies are more than U rom's?
I don't think J has more enemies than U. From what i understanded when i made the run, the enemies drop behavior depends on who you kill and when. You would need to test every possibility to optimize this. Im not sure if my run through the elevator is optimal though.
I'm interesting in this place. Is it some thing different between U and J? Zero is nearer the door in J rom. But I only found it happened twice in the mission. Or is it means there are some faster way to through the doors?
In my case Zero ends up being far from the door because i touched the door while dashing, McBobX jumps and then touching the door and the floor in the same frame. Zero's hitbox is more wide while dashing. MxBobX's method (wich Hellagels also used) is faster than just dashing (i didn't knew this when i made the run).

I expect a fixed version within a month, it shouldn't be that hard to fix those small mistakes and resubmit. After all, most of the run is great.

It's suboptimal and its gameplay is slower than the published run, it just gains time from dialogue language changes.
