Would TASes of the Hazard Course from Half-Life 1 (which is completely separated from the main game, and primarily acts as a means of teaching the player various game mechanics) be acceptable for submission?

Does it have a clear sort of ending?
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero

Yes, upon getting to the end of the map the screen fades to black and you are sent back to the main menu. There is also a separate trigger nearby able to be activated by the player that sends them back to the main menu immediately.

If that mode is available from the beginning, it's acceptable. If it needs an existing save file, it can only be accepted to Moons and needs to get good feedback. Since it's meant to be teaching the player, I guess it is available from the start, but just mentioning this for clarity.

So for the Shinobi III speedrunners I had started a LOTAD for the No Kunai category of the game. However I started getting into it and am making a good effort at it. I do however notice that many parts are going to be quite similar to the original Any% TAS. Would this No Kunai be a good or a bad candidate for Moons? https://www.speedrun.com/shinobi3/run/zx246wem Edit: The No Kunai would be using the 6 button mode for the game. The route would be a bit different since you cannot use ceiling clips with kunai. Zipping with dive kicks would still be used. There is a pretty restrictive wall clip, but it may or may not save time.
OK so I have found a clip that is much slower but acts essentially the Same as the kunai clip. This means that the run 's route is now essentially the same as the standard one. With not a lot of difference. So I will not be submitting this no kunai tas.

I've been thinking about somewhat known/popular games that haven't been TASed yet. I keep coming back to NES - Slalom and PSX - Twisted Metal 2. Is there any interest in doing these games? For Slalom, it could get repetitive, even though the game is short. I was thinking start on Mt. Nasty (the hardest mountain), do all 8 races, then the game takes you to the top 2 races of the other 2 mountains, and then loops back to the top 2 races of Mt. Nasty again. You could get a game over here. Thus, there would be 12 completed races and 1 race where you get a game over. The game over race could do something humorous where you crash and time-out just inches from the finish. But within the races, you could go for shortest time, highest score, craziest crashes, close finish, etc. Thus, it may be more of a playaround to improve entertainment and variety rather than just straight up fastest time in all races. ^^ would something like that get accepted? ^^ As for Twisted Metal 2, I have my doubts that I am anywhere skilled enough to TAS that game, but I hope someone will someday, as I think it would be wonderfully entertaining to watch.

If there's no ending in the game: http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#GamesWithoutClearEnding Overall, after having watched a bit of Slalom gameplay, I don't expect Moons feedback. So doing straight any% is your best bet, and then depending on the rating, probably some Moons-only branch.

In that case, feel free to post any TASing related content in the relative game thread, even test attempt at TASing it, so that people can give you feedback and tell you if you're ready for making a submission. You can also upload any TAS you want in your userfile storage.
my personal page - my YouTube channel - my GitHub - my Discord: thunderaxe31 <Masterjun> if you look at the "NES" in a weird angle, it actually clearly says "GBA"

I was thinking of tasing PSX CTR Time Trials It's a whole different game mode present in the game; generally its played in competitive with an unlockable character (Penta) which is playable and intended, but it's possible to use him only via password in the main menu. So that would go along the unlockable track (Turbo Track) to do the complete Time Trial TAS Also, PAL Version has a decent advantage over phisics abuse to complete the TAS faster How would that play around for the site rules?

A password is allowed to unlock a level and that would be published even if the movie is not entertaining. But for characters that require passwords, it has to be entertaining enough for moons. Abusable physics isn't a convincing reason to use PAL if that's the only difference. Example of a good reason: #5749: Chef_Stef's PSX Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back in 36:06.78 http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#NtscVsPalUsaJapanVsEurope

If a PC game stores options in a configuration file (such as a .json or a .cfg) that is not tied to a specific save file and some of these options would impact movie synchronization, would it be preferred for the settings file to be provided as part of a submission or for those settings to be set at the beginning of the movie? The closest movie guideline to this case I can find is this one: http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#AnyImportantSettingsNotSavedInTheMovieFileMustBeStatedInTheSubmissionText As a specific example: in Dead Cells, there are a few options that need to be enabled for an optimal time (such as "Deactivate lore rooms" and "Skip cut scenes") but other options could be enabled or disabled for an encode that should not impact synchronization, but would lose a few frames to enable as part of the movie file (such as disabling "Enable bright flashes" or enabling "Show milliseconds" for the in-game timer). I have no issues about losing time to change in-game options, but I'd like there to be an option for encoders/publishers to be able to decide on settings that don't impact synchronization, especially for accessibility settings, that doesn't require resyncing the movie.

It's ok to mention all the options that need to be tweaked in the submission text. Or in libTAS movie annotations. http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#UseMovieAnnotationsToProvideInstallationInstructions

One day once Windows TASing is compatible with the Abe games I have plans to make a PC port Exoddus 100% TAS and any% TAS due to the PC ports having more glitches than the PSX version and faster loading times. Would these ports be allowed on TASVideos as a separate branch to the PSX versions? Taking this video for example, with Mudanchee Vaults in 100%, I could literally do the secret areas that need rescuing and then do a relocation glitch to leave the area. Same thing with Mudomo! https://youtu.be/n3CMXWsGctk?t=14

If gameplay is not identical then yes.

It has the same gameplay as the PSX version but it has more glitches that the PSX version doesn't have.

Unique glitches are a part of gameplay as far as TASing is concerned.

I see - so could the PC version be accepted on the vault with it's glitches being more superior than the PSX version? Most people speedrun the PC version of the game.

Don't know about 100% (maybe it goes to vault? who knows) but for the low-glitch branch it should be perfectly fine!

I would personally expect the "as fast as possible" aboort/OOB completion would not be the place to showcase cosmetics. https://i.imgur.com/b16ITcg.png

I've reread our previous talk and reminded myself that 100% is already meant to avoid a glitch (OOB/abort), so it might as well contain a speed/entertainment tradeoff such as coloring your character.

So I recently updated my TAS that is now 1 second faster for Oddysee and now it's in the judging phase. What should I should? Should I cancel my submission and submit my new movie or wait for a judge to replace the movie file? http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/65050365977347239

Wait for the replacement. If someone doesn't get around to replacing it sooner, the Judge will replace it when they get around to judging it.

I want to make a TAS where I kill all the enemies and find all the secrets in all the levels, aka 100% run. Unfortunately, the game has several sections where enemies spawn infinitely and the player is forced to run away. Are such remarks acceptable if I submit a TAS under "100%" branch, or it's more reasonable to restrict the goal from "100%" to "All secrets" or something like that?
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.
