Well, here's my attempt. Time: 14:55 It would have been a perfect run, except that two bosses in the game have attacks that are simply unavoidable, so it is more like a minimum damage run. Also, I only used my sword, except in one spot, where I simply could not avoid grabbing a fire wheel. (I tried... believe me.) So we'll call it a minimum powerups run. :) Here is the FMV FILE I'd like some feedback, and tips on cutting down the time. (Especially if anyone is familiar with glitches in this game.) EDIT: I used Ninja Gaiden (U) (a1).

why did u go for no power ups? isn't it faster to sometimes use the other weapons?

Yes, probably, but the sword has style. :) Although, come to think of it, I never really stopped running forwards, so I'm not sure it would be all that much faster.

I dunno where i got it from but I have a Ninja gaiden-movie here. That guys ends it with a very close time to 18:00. And that really looks boring, he misses jumps, waits for enemies and so on. One thing though that he is good at is some of the bosses. He has some fire weapon and just jumps into the bosses, killing them almost instantly.

I remember Lezard doing Ninja Gaiden in 11:43, his site doesn't seem to work though.

My last run on this game was 00:13:07.. But Lezards run(VirtuaNES) is a LOT faster. 11 minuts or someting ô_0.. Try to use the "Jump-N-Slash" on the bosses.. they die kinda fast with it ;)

sdkess did a pure speedrun of the game without using savestates/slowdowns, so it can't be compared to time attacks. I think he still did a very good job. You may have gotten it from his site, which is http://www.vortiginous.com/

That´s possible. In that case im more then impressed. I played this game as a kid on a real NES and I managed to get to the final boss once, after 5 hours of playing. So if he doesn´t uses save states or slowdown he might be the best player I know at that game! Impressive, but still boring to watch compared to pure time attacks.

Well, truth be told, this was my first ever attempt at a timeattack. I already have some ideas on how to improve my time. Looks like 11:43 is the time to beat. :) Being my first attempt, I was looking for some critique on my style of play. (Also, does anyone know the differences between the a1 and the a2 roms?)

You need to use this on every boss in the game:

Now, I haven't seen your run yet (don't have Famtasia), but if you don't use the Jump & Slash then DO SO! Not only is it a major, major time-saver for bosses, but it's useful in other areas as it destroys all enemies and projectiles. The important thing to note is that even if you have it, you can still use the regular jumping slash by pressing Down+B in the air; this allows you to save your technique points for when you really need them. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

I improved this time by 9 seconds in my last movies, so the current time is 11:34.
his site doesn't seem to work though.
Yeah, they deleted my account, and my site with it, maybe because i didn't updated in a long time. I haven't seen your movie but i will give some tips that you can use: - Don't attack while standing, always while jumping. - Sometimes, an enemy hit can save you time (ex.: if you need to jump an hole, your regular jump would go higher than needed, but an enemy hit will make jump the necessary), even if you have to backoff to get hit, but make sure it saves you time. - Try to have the circular slash always. - Go for the flame skill at the Snow Stage, it may seem that you are losing time, but you will regain that time at the boss. - Use the Quickslash Exploit (Down+B, as Josh said) on all the bosses you can. (only if you don't have the circular slash). - Try to jump less as possible, running is faster. - When you are climbing a wall, instead of climbing in Zig-Zag, climb only from 1 side, it is faster, however, it will only work if you are fast enough. I don't remember any other tips i can give, perhaps you would want to watch my latest movie of this game, i sent it Palatinum's site, but i don't know when it will be published. And if you are wondering...Yeah, i'm back in action, i'm making movies again :), this time, they'll be at Palatimun's site.

Lezard's movies are for VirtaNES. Bisqwit works with Famtasia.

Hey guys: sdkess is indeed a great gamer. He did that run on a console NES. He and I were discussing beating the game with no damage, however there is one spot (and only one) that you must get hurt in the actual game: when the final bosses head comes off and rolls away. There IS, however, a known way around this with an emu. If you use the glitch that allows you to slash many times in one jump (hold down and slash tons), you are able to kill the head before it hits you. Sdkess did this on an emu only once, so I can imagine a superplay run it would be very feasable to do with some slowdown. Good luck with optimizing your run. The swish blades, as I call them (the jumping weapon), is indeed the best weapon to use on bosses for a fast time.

Didn't someone come up with a way to convert Virtuanes movies to Famtasia movies? Or was it the other way around?

I think Blip found out both ways. He posted the code somewhere around here too. I haven't tried famtasia-->virtuanes, but virtuanes-->famtasia works sometimes. That's how I converted my "A boy and his blob" movie. However, my "Little Samson" movie went out of synch right from the start, so it's not very reliable.

Aside from that, I'd be open to conversions/a resurrection of Lezard's site. (May it R.I.P. until then if/when it happens) I can definitely congratulate awesome playing by all involved.

If there is a way to convert .vmv to .fmv, can someone please redirect me to the instructions?, it would be good to convert my old movies and send them to the site.

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=210 Check out that topic. It has the code for converting the filetypes.

Yeah, so I'm fucking around with this game right now. I've done the first two acts, check it out (right-click, save as): http://home.earthlink.net/~cellstage2/data/Ninja%20Gaiden%20(U)%20by%20OFX.fcm Keep in mind this run isn't meant to be as quick as possible - I do some interesting things that probably slow me down a few frames here and there, like "double-jumps" using hard-to-grab background walls, occasionally taking damage (although I really try not to), and getting power-ups. I just tried to make it interesting and fun to watch. I went nuts with some wobble moves after destroying the bosses. =D I love FCEU's advance-frame key. It makes scaling those walls (and just about everything else) really easy.

I also made a run of the first level. This is my first attempt at doing something like this and really was just an experiment to learn about how to use the emulator. I had a slightly shakey start and managed to crash the emulator some, but it seems good now. I acually had not previously read this thread before making this movie, so I find it kinda interesting that the begin of both mine and OmegaFlareX's are almost the exact same. We must be on to something ;p Mine is faster than Omega's I beleive, but he managed to clumb up to the Jump & Slash faster than I did. I also slightly releived that it wasn't just me that couldn't jump and kill the first 3 enemies in the game. For some reason my sword just went through them, so I took damage to go through them. The other spot I took damage boosted me up the wall a bunch, and then I somehow managed to use it to teleport up the wall a little further, before I had to manually climb it. Knowing of the Down+B in air to not to the Jump & Slash move makes things alot easier, as I don't have to count hits like I was doing so I had enough to kill the bosses. Either way, the level I did is here: Errm, in a newer post. Feel free to comment, i'm not sure if i'll continue this run or not.

I "double-jumped" off of a wall to get up to that ledge that the club-wielding guy was on. If you time it just right, you'll grab onto that wall by merely jumping forward. There are several other places you can do this in the game, I'm trying to take advantage of it wherever I can.

Yeah, that sucked. It looks kinda sloppy. You might be able to kill the first and third (or hell, maybe all three) using the down+B slash glitch. I used that a lot in Death Valley, but I haven't tested it against the guys in level 1. Hahah, that would look awesome - crazily leaping into the first 3 enemies with a blazing fury of slashes. Maybe if it works I'll put it in version 2, I'm not re-doing this movie yet.
