Famidash is a homebrew NES demake of the 2013 PC/mobile rhythm platformer game,
Geometry Dash. This TAS plays through all official main levels on Version 1.2.8, collects all coins within them, and improves the
previous TAS by approximately 5 seconds.
This TAS was built off of
this submission. Please read it if you need additional context. Outside of grabbing the coins, these are the only notable differences in the run:
Deadlocked
Unfortunately, you can't do the wave clip and grab the first Secret Coin (the wave can't fit in the gap), so I have to take the timeloss.
Fingerdash
To get the third coin in the level, you have to grab the 10 blue coins in the wave segment. I have tested every possible vertical alignment and slope. None of these allow me to either clip into the slope and survive, or skip the 1x speed portal. I'm luckily able to still skip the next one, however.
So compared to the
previous movie, the only way this run saves time is through faster loading. If the loads were the same across both runs, then this run would LOSE time, on account of certain skips not being possible anymore. Should this movie be rejected for that? Maybe. But hey, an improvement's an improvement.
nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: So this is an interesting situation where our rules are clear about ROM usage. As long as there is a good explanation for it, then we don't mind. Here, your TAS doesn't all the speaking...as it loads things faster, yet game-play is slower because of the rearrangement making some tricks no longer possible. If this was measured with IGT, then it would be a rejection; however, we count frames. :) I appluad the effort for taking advantage of a particular ROM version to accomplish the goal.
