hey guys, i already asked a few people for help, but nobody could help me out so far, so i thought i could try it here. what i need is help with a little glitch in YI. this glitch makes it possible so we can warp from level 3-1 to preferably 6-8. months has passed by, i did around 800 attempts with a 2% success rate and nobody found anything RTA viable so far. i really like this category and i would to see it being ran by more people, because it's a nice, short sub 30mins run. you can see how i do the save corruption in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zM-75SI9XWs as you can see in the top left corner we change the values of the level to anything above 127 to unlock it, so we can just access that level and continue the run there. if you want to see it in a full run, here is my Personal Best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGM_3MsRB7Q the yoshi TASers also have a really nice documentation about this glitch, but for somebody who doesn't know anything about things like that it's pretty useless. you can find the documenation here: http://yoshidis.wikia.com/wiki/Boss_Key_Save_Data_Corruption what i mean with RTA viable strats is a strat is a strat that you can do 8/10 tries, without loading the same savestate to give you the same pattern, so preferably make a savestate before you enter the level before you can say it's RTA viable. i would love if somebody finds something, i really love new glitches being found. and i know that money is always a good drive. if you got any more questions, let me know.

Ok, the Game Resources page last update was in 2013 :> I'm committed in updating it with recent info, diagrams, gifs, links to external references (ram/rom maps, disassembly, lua scripts, videos of tricks, etc). I've been working with YI since feb 2016, and I have great plans for it. If anyone is interested, we have a YI Discord server for the speedrunning community, but the science took space, so we're very active there discussing mechanics, brainstorming strats and sharing knowledge.
Games are basically math with a visual representation of this math, that's why I make the scripts, to re-see games as math. My things: YouTube, GitHub, Pastebin, Twitter

Time for a bump! I got back into TASing again recently and feel inspired to put together a new Yoshi TAS. It won't be as ambitious as the 100% run, but there are still a bunch of categories for this game that haven't really been touched by TASers. I think the any% category landscape (in my vision at least) looks something like this: ACE = Masterjun's current credits warp TAS No ACE = The older left+right warp TAS. This was obsoleted by the credits warp, but the old route still has some interesting potential improvements involving the null egg glitch. It could be an interesting run, but it doesn't exist atm. No ACE, No left+right warp = null egg categories. There are actually two variants of this run. One involves save corruption to unlock 6-8 early and one goes through every level (this one is usually called magical journey). Neither of these two currently exist. No null egg = Warps. This run is what Carl Sagan's existing run attempted to be. At this point in time, however, it is massively improvable, in particular due to the recent discovery of a plethora of new warps involving tongue glitch + level corruption. Carl's TAS is now beatable by a good RTA run, although nobody has achieved all the new warps yet in a single run. This TAS would be super interesting, but is also very complex. A good project for a motivated TASer! Here's a demo run (real time with savestates): https://youtu.be/gQUeuSv6vcE?is=YdQov552-Dg7lnIL No warps = Warpless. This is the most popular speedrunning category and most resembles vanilla gameplay. It would be similar in spirit to spezzafers old run, but with more modern optimizations (e.g. wall jumps). This run actually has some interest, but the person involved would welcome collaborators ;) I'm mostly interested in the null egg categories as they're relatively short and show off some nice glitches. There is also interest in putting together some sort of playaround/glitch showcase run, as there are a load of ridiculous glitches that don't really get showcased in the mainstream categories. Anyway, if anybody is still interested in this game, either as a TASer or just a fan, feel free to reach out on discord. The community has had a bit of a revival this year.

I've started working on a new magical journey TAS and here's the first WIP! https://youtu.be/-Xz_oZFtoQ4?is=aMzeHT3tNthX3MzY Fairly standard stuff so far, but the next few levels should have some pretty big surprises 😉 The RTA time for this category is around 40 minutes, so I guess it'll be 30-40 mins in the end.

This looks fantastic! So much stuff I've never seen before. Absolutely looking forward to see the final result.
