A frustrating game to play, and a frustrating game to TAS, but hopefully fun to watch done fast. This is a dungeon-crawling type game with puzzles to solve and goblins to fight. Playing through it normally one finds out quickly that it is VERY easy to die. But the story is pretty cool, and it can be pretty humorous too. I don't get the best possible ending here, in which the hero is rescued by a girl instead of a goblin (but hey, maybe some people would prefer the goblin), because that would take more time.
I don't know why, but when making this video, after completing just about every room I had a desynch when I played the video back. Other times the screen would just freeze. Sometimes I played through a fight to see what moves were possible only to find that a move I made before suddenly has become impossible! So it is very possible that someone else might be able to find some ways to save some frames if they could figure out how to make this game stay consistent. Anyway, hopefully this will be desynch-free for everyone.
  • Played on Gens win32 2.12b
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Manipulates luck
  • Takes damage to save time
Pauses are intentional, such as:
waiting for burning trolls to die to collect their goodies
manipulating random-moving things (usually more than one at a time, ugh)
the game decides to be slow there
the menus move at different speeds
on level 2 I pause to let the will-o-wisps kill the goblins, then later to wait for the spores to grow, then later I take a strange path to avoid the slimes
on level 3 I have to wait for the beam to change before stepping into it, otherwise *poof*
on level 5 I turn into a mouse, and if I start moving after the trolls are next to me they squish me. Here is one spot I might have saved time by drinking the water earlier (if you don't you keep taking damage from the poisonous air or something and die), but taking it too soon delays the guy, and he is attacked by trolls. In the room where I walk in a funny pattern that is because if you step off of that path you are eaten by giant worms.
on level 6 I have to wait for the spider to appear in the hole before I can go in
Thanks to nesrocks for watching my test-run and making helpful comments.

adelikat: This run is well done and has received nothing but positive feedback. An entertaining game done well. Accepting.

Excellent. I don't see a single mistake, so it's very consistent run. This game is like NES Deja Vu, or Uninvited, except you get nice animated characters and a mistery atmosphere music. Yes vote

In reality, this game is much harder than what it looks in the movie. I've tried to play it a couple of times and always lost patience after few rooms. Well played, Y-vote.

The game is very difficult, I never got past 3 levels or so. Liked this one, voted yes.

All these deathtraps sound like Nethack to me... "You are crushed by a falling ceiling tile" During the fight with the dragon it looks as if you activate the defensive spells longer than necessary, especially for the lightnings. Was that really the last possible frame to activate it or did you want to use it up faster or something? And what are the gray bars that build up during combat?

The gray bars are tiredness indicators: the more gray bars you have, the longer it takes to do each attack.

The dragon fight happens on its own timer, and no matter when i use the spells the time between his attacks is the same. I used some earlier and some later so there would be some variety. the very last one is the one that counts, and that one I hit on the earliest possible frame.

Wow, what an interesting choice. I like this one, and I'm voting yes. It makes me think of what an Ultima TAS would be like.

The first time I looked at this I hated it because it was ugly and I had no idea what was going on. Looking at it a second time, I now think it's an absolutely beautiful movie. It's very easy to tell how many death traps there are and how tricky it would be to avoid them in realtime. It's also a blast to see you go though puzzles in a few seconds that would take me a very long time to figure out. I wish you'd shown a few more of the death animations, but that can't really be helped. It's a very easy yes and I hope it gets published soon.

good game, good run, easy yes vote. I remember this game being near impossible on a console.

How different would a movie with the other ending be?

i think for the other ending you have to get the girl's ring on the magic carpet stage, then give it to her later in the level. I think it would only add on a few more seconds. there's also a cool easter egg, the 'cup of coffee' that you can find and give to some computer programmers hidden on a later stage, but I forget what you get for doing that.

Actually, this game looks like NES The Immortal, except that you play it on the genesis. Well, that's an old dude with an attitude! I think it deserves a YES.
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

Sorry but even though it seem the author did a good job optimizing the run, the game itself is pretty boring and I was not entertained. Voting No.
