When did Nesvideos officially become TASVideos?
Slowly and progressively after tasvideos.org was acquired, which was in May 2006.
Do you prefer direct, generic, factual questions like the one above? Or more philosophical, opinionated-type questions?
Both are okay. Both have good and bad sides. Direct, generic factual questions: -- Good: Quick to answer when you know the answer; gives off satisfaction when you know you did something right -- Bad: May be tiring if it's a FAQ or it just doesn't interest anyone or steps on a discomfort zone Philosophical, opinion-type questions: -- Good: Makes a good discussion; gives freedom in deciding how to answer, which way to approach it -- Bad: May leave you stumped for a long time if you don't have a clear opinion on the topic

I think that keeping the same name on a new screenshot (and thus erasing the old screenshot) is a bad idea because obsolete movies are still accessible on the site and should have a unique screenshot associated with them, just like non-obsoleted movies.
You're right about that. I used to think that using the old one is okay when there is no significant change, i.e. the new screenshot can apply to both.

Aw, I was hoping for "It is not an easy tas" to be used as the published picture. And as a second choice (and I'm surprised no one mentioned this) what Tatl says when you begin the second cycle: "He always skips the important parts"
I find incomplete dialog screenshots to be somewhat petty humor. It's on the same level as children who laugh "lol, you said ass" when you say "assume", or something like that. (I don't know real-life English examples so I just made one up to illustrate the point.) I like your second suggestion more -- I even thought of it when I looked at the movie. However, I think neither of them pass the visual pleasure criteria. I also like it if screenshots can be immediately enjoyed even if you're slow reading English (someone dyslexic or just not native English speaker). I chose the "I play ocarina" shot specifically on these two principles: -- It is beautiful. -- It does not significantly spoil the movie/game (i.e. Link is either a deku scrub or the regular boy).

Thing is if people want to abuse, they will find ways under technical limitations. Such as posting an image.

Sorry guys, but I just accidentally destroyed the AVI before people received 100% of the file. I had started a re-encoding of it for an experiment, and too late I noticed that it overwrote the file it was actually seeding. So people got about 81% of the file but the remainder does not exist anymore. I will re-encode it now, unfortunately everyone will have to start the download over again using the new torrent when it is finished. It will take about 8 hours until it becomes available. Apologies.

Didn't the debate start when Phil said that "America isn't just USA so don't say America when you talk about USA" or something? So I'm saying, that when talking about USA you can say America and everybody understands what you're talking about.
No, it didn't start then. Read the opening post. Don't just start arguing for the sake of arguing. You're arguing about wrong question, one that wasn't even posed.

How about limiting its use to sizes 9 and up? That would be a technical solution to a social misconduct :)
The size tag should never be used with absolute numbers; only with %-relative numbers. The meaning of the absolute numbers depends on the system it is being browsed on.

Would the same go for the color tag, which can be used to hide text as well as creating annoying emphasis? How about ?
How about [quote]?
It is also used annoyingly sometimes. These are social problems, not technical problems. Valid uses for these tags exist, for example [size] is useful when making structured posts (resembling articles). I think it should be addressed socially, not technically.

Actually, it says "The Americas may alternatively be referred to as America; however, America may be ambiguous as it can refer to either this entire landmass or just the United States of America.". It seems that you didn't read it that well.
What are you trying to say? As far as I see, that does not contradict with what Phil said. [Edit: Split the offtopic discussion from the smiley thread into this thread.]

I approve this. As the movie number decreases clash chances significantly, even radical abbreviations for the game name are allowed (just as they were before). I don't need a dummy edit for updating the RecentChanges, but I don't know if others don't so I'm not trying to ask you to not do (3). You can read about the plans for the rank system in this thread: http://tasvideos.org/forum/t/5342 Mostly the idea is to use a minimal number of manually granted ranks. Ask JXQ why manually granted ranks (as in awards) are a bad idea.

I was actually paraphrasing something I had read. Now that I searched for material to use in reply to your question, I found this page that mentions that claim: -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_of_life -- http://www.sachsreport.com/thehumanfactor2.htm It comes from the fact that no money in the world can replace anyone when you consider all what the person is to their peers. More of an anything, it is a FAQ. It really means "0" seeds, but it is more encouraging than just saying that there are no seeds, because there are some users who are running my btfriend program (hopefully more after this post!), which automatically starts seeding those files which are currently being attempted to download by some users and/or those files which have most unfair ratio of downloaders to seeds. In other words, it is a promise that if you start downloading, there will be a seed. (Though it may take anything from 5 to 60 minutes until it appears.)

"luck-manipulation" was just a confusing word that usually means using save states until you get a good result.
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. However, for some games you may need to investigate deeper what exactly allows the consequences to your actions to be different. In most games, usually just doing some action at different time or otherwise varying your input will accomplish the desired changes in the variations behavior. It is nothing abnormal: it is not about making the game do things it would never do. It is just about making the rare occurance become a tangible reality. For example, if the boss has 7/8 chance of shooting a laggy projectile towards you and 1/8 chance jumping timidly, you may want that it just jumps. And to do that, you just simply test different inputs, loading savestate again and retrying, until it complies. http://tasvideos.org/LuckManipulation.html tells more. Edit: Okay, turns out I'm better at confusing than at clarifying :P

if you met God, and he'd offer to answer three of your questions. What would you ask him?
As I child I thought that when I meet God, I will ask him many questions regarding how exactly he created the world. I suppose those questions might still take anywhere from one to three slots from your allowed number of questions. As I cannot currently think of any better questions, I'll settle for that. Edit: No, I would also probably want to know things like, when did he create angels. But the question might not even make sense, considering that time is a concept inherent to our universe, and that I believe that the whole universe is a creation of God.

if he offered to change three things in this world to your liking, what would those be?
I would yield and let him change three things into his own liking instead. My motivations could not possibly be as thoroughly considered for consequences as his :) Okay, I'll try. First, as an avid amateur scientist-wannabe, I would ask him to change the speed of light or some other parameter of the universe in such way that it enables the humanity to explore the distant space quickly, but without compromising the living conditions on Earth or any other planet we might encounter life on. Secondly, implement kind of protection on the Earth so that humans are made incapable of harming any animal species to the degree that they would become extinct, but without compromising the food chain, and without making pests invulnerable or even more pestilential, and while still enabling us to enjoy the beauty of the nature. Thirdly, stabilize the human reproduction rate so that it stays within manageable numbers without greatly diminishing or explosively increasing, but without leading into psychological problems and negative consequences thereof of humans whose brains are programmed with all things related to reproduction as a goal in mind. Possibly decrease it for a while until the population reaches some number that makes the second wish more manageable. However, if the first wish comes true, do it so that the population density in any offworld colony does not become smaller as humans spread to more worlds.

I do it by recording each movie into raw files (no codec, just raw RGB & PCM data), and then using a custom program to splice those raw files into a merged file, and then encode that normally using mencoder. The source code of that splicing program is here: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/sidebyside.cc DeHackEd has a slightly different version; my version has a logo in each individual movie but DeHacked's has a larger one shared over the component videos.

Are you still intently pursuing DOSBox as a possibility on this site?
I'm not "intently pursuing" it. However, I am eager to accept any emerging, robust, rerecording supporting DOSBox implementation for use on this site. The rules under which the TASes are created may need defining&refining though.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but the statistics for movies page is very hard to find. I had to google to find it before. Is there a reason why it isn't on the front page, or am I just missing something?
It is linked from http://tasvideos.org/FAQ.html#MiscellaneousInformation. I don't think it belongs to the front page, as it is an extra curiosity, not a potential starting point for browsing. Where else should it be?
