Ok so, I needed to install visual c++ 2015 runtime. When I tried that, there was an error "0x80240017 - Unspecified error". Then it turned out I needed to pull some more windows updates before trying to install visual c. Now everything works. My lua script I used previously had bigger text than before, which I found out is because of a 2nd color parameter that's now supported. I had to change
function text(x, y, text, color)
	gui.drawText(x, y, text,color,8,"SF Intermosaic B")
end
to
function text(x, y, text, color)
	gui.drawText(x, y, text,color,0x00000000,8,"SF Intermosaic B")
end
and now it works as before.

I wanted to switch from 1.11.3 to 1.11.5 but I can't open it. It gives me a window where it says everything is OK but Visual C++ 2015 Runtime is a FAIL. So I tried the prereq installer like the window told me to (v1.2) but now I still get that FAIL and additionally it tells me that api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll is missing.

ínfo dump
----------------------------------------------------

it takes like 55 sec to kill all of ginyu

force except ginyu.
It takes 55 + 33 = 88 sec to kill all of

ginyu force including ginyu.

ALL GINYU FORCE DEAD:
freeza (with puaryamcha, all ginyu force

dead, no grinding)
lv16: 300,000 hp / 6986 = 55 sec
lv19: 400,000 / 9980 = 52 sec
lv22: 600,000 / 44902 = 17 sec
lv22?: 1,000,000 / 49414 = 26 sec

ALL GINYU FORCE EXCEPT GINYU DEAD:
freeza (with puaryamcha, all ginyu force

dead except ginyu, no grinding)
lv15: 300,000 hp / 5988 = 86 sec
lv18: 400,000 / 8982 = 57 sec
lv22: 600,000 / 44902 = 17 sec
lv22: 1,000,000 / 47460 = 27 sec
This took longer by 37 sec.
Flight into the warp detour wasn't

considered.
Killing ginyu is worth it.
----------------------------------------------------
take puar yamcha at any case,

otherwise it wastes 6 sec at radditz and

possibly more in subsequent fights.
----------------------------------------------------
Snake queen takes 6 sec to beat and

gives 3500 exp. That would influence the

following fights. It is worthwhile to kill

her.

not killing snake queen means you fight
nappa
lv7: 14000hp / 1097 = 17 sec
vs killing snake queen:
nappa
lv8: 14000hp / 1297 = 14 sec

vegeta 1st phase without snakequeen
Lv9: 16000hp / 1497 = 14 sec
vegeta 1st phase with snakequeen exp
Lv10: 16000 / 1696 = 12 sec

vegeta 2nd phase without snakeq
lv9: 20000 / 1497 = 18 sec
vegeta 2nd phase with snakeq
lv10: 20000 / 1696 = 16 sec

...possible subsequent fights where

even more time can be saved possibly...

----------------------------------------------------
Basicly: - Skipping the Ginyu Force wastes time because you are underleveled at Freeza. - Beating Recoom, Burter and Jeeze but skipping Ginyu is about 3~5 seconds slower than killing Ginyu too. So best route is to kill all of the Ginyu Force. - Speaking to Puar and Yamcha to get the 1000 exp early on saves like 3 sec at Radditz. So don't skip out on it. More specifically, you only need to talk to one of them to level up (I think)... you can skip the other one. In other words, you only need to talk to either Puar or Yamcha, not both. You need to talk to both. - Killing Snake Queen saves like 1~4 sec in Nappa and Vegeta phase 1+2. The route is pretty much outlined now so all we gotta do is TAS!

I didn't even think of that, tbh. But no, I stopped because I didn't want to try for 50 hours and probably not get it done. Maybe there is a good setup that you can try on console, but I didn't find it..

I tried to verify it at one point but I didn't find a suitable setup and if there was one it would take like 1000 attempts. Assuming the pause bug the way it happens in vba does not happen on console, I would have wasted hours and hours upon this so I stopped.

It's been a few years, I still wonder if that trick I found is a timesaver or not... I'm watching the run to see if there is potential: - When using a bomb to get the ice key (from big fish) at the same time that Mario leaves the room, you can't get a yoshi egg - that means it might not save enough time. - You could do it in one of the first rooms in the desert, but it might only save very little time... - When using the yoshi egg to get the desert key at the same time Mario leaves, you will not get a lightning bolt. This looks definitely slower (getting lightning bolt seems faster). - I'm sure you could do it in the chainchomp minigame. That should save 2 seconds there. - Not sure about grassland.

How to duplicate boats? I've only been able to do it unreliably by jumping around on the right after the water.. I found some strange things.. Link to video The teleport seems to only work to the left and only with a duped boat, or maybe the game just can't handle there being 2 boats aligned like that...

Call-out tricks are RNG dependent, but there are a number of factors that play into it: 1. Your initial set is dependent on an RNG seed that changes every ten or so frames. I played around with a number of seeds, but I couldn't get a good seed that didn't waste time for waiting. 2. Later sets actually change, surprisingly. For example, if you do all of these tricks and land on frame 1000, then you might get a Melon. However, if you optimize it and get as 993 or something, it might be a Kickflip instead. So, it is extremely difficult/time consuming to figure out what tricks to do at what times, when to land them, and stuff like that. A more optimized NJ TAS would definitely route that out better. I figured out later that I could've buttslapped up the ramp and cleared them a lot faster, but it was too far down the line for me to go back. But, again, this goes back to me saying screw it and wanting to continue the TAS (since I already spent three days in NJ alone).
I just checked. My video clears the NJ call outs with 1:55 left and yours with 1:50. So there's potential for 3~5 seconds save. I would like some more explanations on buttslapping. Is that the trick that lets you jump into the sky? What do you mean by "mash ollie"? I would like a frame by frame breakdown. One more nitpick: When grinding you switch between tricks a lot, where I would have liked it to be so that each trick counts and increases the points multiplier.

The game was very lacklustre to be enjoyable to watch, but this run changed that. Good job How did you find the screen transition bug anyway?

Oh this will be interesting to watch. I'd argue that I did some of the New Jersey stuff slightly faster (car driving, combo clearing), but you really surprised me with some strats I hadn't considered. Will watch the rest later Edit: I watched till 12:00 so far. I often see you gain super speed but then you lose it... Is there a cap where the game reduces your speed if you go too fast? Something like that also happens in f-zero GX. wtf @ jumping as high as skyscrapers

Not really related to my depressions but here is a little thing that's been on my mind: For all my life I've been pretty much alone. People I met, in school and at work have always been strange acquaintances - no friendships with deeper meaning. My current visit at a day hospital here has helped me change, and opened some ways for me to make new friends. One measure I took was to contact a former schoolmate girl that I graduated with. We only had class together for one year, but she was one person I talked to and spent time with much more than everyone else. We went take private lessons in math together, and rode the bus back home after together. I thought that we went apart on good terms. We live only about 500m apart so there was always a silent opportunity for me to go visit her, but didn't take it. Let's say, I had more important problems to deal with... Now that 5 years have passed, I tried contacting her. When I called or came by, I only met with her parents a couple times. The way I remember her, she had 500 facebook friends and has something to do every evening so I didn't think anything of it. I threw a letter in their mailbox in which I had written that I would like to know what she's been up to and that we could meet or write each other and I had given her my phone number. Some days later I got an SMS where she said (translated) "Hello Christoph I'm not interested in meeting you. During our school time you've been a superficial acquaintance, but I don't require that we talk about old times and I'm happy the way things are right now. I count on your understanding. PS. This is a friend's number" Of course I was hurt to read this... I didn't write anything offending or sexual in my letter, only that I bet she's busy, that I would find it nice if we could tell each other what's going on, my phone number and that she could write at me, and greetings to her two sisters. So why did she treat me like some mad stalker? Since this happened, I've been told "don't let this get to you", "this is about her, not you", etc. and I'm mostly over it. But it's something stupid anyway, which I have to think about and feel bad about sometimes.. There was someone's theory that at some point I came across as whiny/needy/whatever or that she has been hurt by a man, but I don't know what's going on. For two years before the graduation year, before I had to redo it, I visited school with her older sister. I was able to retrieve her phone number and wrote to her after this incident and she told me literally "if this is about my sister...There's nothing I can tell you about that." I'm confused

Executes arbitrary code Some of those complete the game as fast as possible, some others are playarounds or re-program the game for entertainment. In this thread I want to discuss ideas for new ACE playarounds. Before I start, I want to point out that discussing ideas might take away from the entertainment and/or surprise factor since half the fun of ACE runs is to see something unexpected and never-before-seen happen. So I don't know how far we are going to take this discussion. Stuff I would like to see: - I would like to see the bad guy play through the game. So how about we put SMB1 version of Bowser as the playable character in SMB3? - I think it would be cool to mix enemies, items, music and gameplay elements from different games. Have Mario play through Kirby's Adventure with enemies from Megaman or something. I know there was some online game somewhere where you could play through SMB1 as different characters - if you take that a step further I think that would make for a great thing to watch. Or what about this? - Instead of replacing things in games, you could also replace the objective (genre). Zelda 1 could become a soccer game. SMB3 could become a story book. Kirby Super Star could become a ... food fight? Be creative
