Great demonstration. I think it's actually much more fun than the previous Total Control Hack run.

I am quite curious what meaning "princess only" has in this game.

Occasionally, hex editing earlier parts of a run leads to desyncs later on. (Possible causes are RNG, lag, subpixels or loading times, in rough order of likelihood). This all depends on the game. In the best case, you can remove/add one or more input frames around the part where the desync happens. In the worst case, you'll have to redo the parts where the desyncs happen.

In Super Mario World's case, the category "small only" was accepted because it allowed for many new interesting strategies, because in that game the cape could be used to fly over most stages. Not being allowed to use the cape meant many stages had to be traversed with different tactics in mind. However, in this game, "small only"/"no powerups" does not seem to add much (if at all) to the run. Here, the category just becomes useless and redundant and hence, not worth publishing.

Care to elaborate what the difference is between "small only" and "no power ups"? I'd think they mean the same thing.

Nice combos! I owned this game as well, and yeah, it's not very good, but I like the idea of a Captain Ginyu (TM) playaround. Can you pull off those 100% combos with Tien (TM) and Goku (R) after using Ginyu (TM)'s change ability?
Yes, to my knowledge, body-swapped characters still function exactly as they normally would. And Ginyu has regular stamina and body size, so most if not all combo's should still work fine on him. I've also been making attempts at restarting a Captain Ginyu playaround. The largest hurdle is that besides having Body Change, he's complete ass as a character. Even his energy cancelling is terribly slow, to the point where it's nearly useless. Also, I've just barely touched the surface of this game's combo abilities yet. Tien and Goku are just two of the faster (more damaging) options, that I've done tests with. I actually think most characters have capabilities for doing 100% combo's by use of energy cancelling. Unfortunately, so far Ginyu seems to be one of the exceptions.

Recently I've been getting back to this, trying out larger combo opportunities. This game is surprisingly deep combo-wise, by chaining normal attacks into energy discharge (QCB+O) and then linking into other moves. Here's a brief demonstration, showing off a 100% combo/reset with Tien: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjh3n_Diiyk EDIT: Here's a true 100% combo with Goku, aiming for speed (00:07.33 seconds from input start to enemy death cry) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHauVy9Q-Hk

I wouldn't allow cheats such as that to be published. Even if it does up the entertainment value of the run significantly, it would set a very bad precedent and would open up a hole to all other kinds of "cheat"-runs for all different kinds of games, which will lead to all sorts of issues. The rules are also clear on this:
Movie Rules wrote:
Codes that manipulate ROM or RAM directly (e.g. Game Genie codes) are not allowed They count as hacked versions of the game if they touch ROM areas. Either convert it to a real hack or don't use it at all.
Though I question if, if counted as a hack, a simple weapon switch cheat/hack would count as notable enough for a hack to be accepted. If so, that would still cause the same issues as noted above. That said, nice run diggidoyo.

I think the reason it wasn't unrejected at first is because this run does not complete the main game. This run just beats a side game mode, and as a non-standard category it wouldn't be Vault-eligible. So I guess this will just have to be rejected again, unless the Vault rules do allow for non-main game mode runs.

From the looks of it, that is true. What he is saying is that the knockdowns are suboptimal, timewise. It would probably be faster to skip the final knockdown hit of each combo, and go for a reset instead.

I'd say Yoshi's Island 100% pretty well covers anything YI any% does. So I'd say YI any% could drop its star. For the SMW1-derived runs, it's a bit of a trickier choice, since both SMW runs are considered quite excellent while SDW is probably one of the better known hack runs on the site. I don't think either of the SMW1 runs should lose their stars. As for the SMW1 hacks, I'm not sure about either of them. Do they offer a significant amount of exposure over the current SMW publications?

True, like I said in the original post. (Speaking of, it's been nearly two years since I wrote that, and PS2 rerecording still hasn't reached acceptable standards, or even progressed a whole lot to my knowledge. Huh.) However, there's still the question whether it's worth getting; especially as Earthrock Trilobyte's stage has a very significant sequence break (using Zero's rising Rasetsusen glitch) which would save a lot of time, but also skip the whole area where the red body part would be. I'm guessing it will be faster in a tool-assisted environment to just blow everything in front up as fast as possible (or take damage if necessary), rather than waste dozens of seconds or even minutes going out of my way to collect the armor part. Same goes for the blue foot part (invincible dash), which requires a significant amount of backtracking in Burn Rooster's stage.

Actually, in a TAS all those spikes would be easily passable. Also, even if I would use it, I can only have one Prickle Barrier at a time, and it leaves the character in question at 1 HP, which is possibly also disadvantageous.

There isn't anything in particular for the arcade platform that makes it take long to judge, but fighting game playaround TASes typcially need to have extra consideration and thoughts in regards to judging it, because we can't just simply publish every single playaround anyone makes. We need to take into account what would be worth publishing and what would not. The main delay for this TAS in particular was me having to decide whether or not this run warranted obsoletion of the other Street Fighter Zero 3 run, and not having much response to go off with. I only count four responses to the question I asked earlier in this thread, one of them being the author, and the response to that being generally quite mixed. This made it hard to decide what would be the best solution for the site.

It is true that still shots fail to properly capture the things that happen throughout the movie. That said, I still tried to capture a few of the more clear egg shots (and other improbable things) throughout the run (mostly world 4).

Play? Depends on your definition of play (competitive?) and on your definition of "being Daigo". For TAS, input speed/reaction isn't needed (because you use frame advance) and enemy analysis/mindgames aren't needed (because you use savestates). What bits of being Daigo would a TASer need?

Exactly like he said. At least two digits. The next OoT run improved the previous one by 122636 frames. That's six digits, which is more than two. In fact, it's significantly more than two, but more than two or three nonetheless. Meanwhile, the current SM64 run in production has saved, what, seven frames so far?
