I’m siding with Warp, slightly. When was the last time you saw an administrator post in the forum? This site’s administration has become extremely non-caring and oblivious to the community, and the site has gone to shit as a result, quite obviously. Having said that, Warp, you’re either an idiot or are trolling if you think you’re in the right when ignoring everyone who’s asking for more information, or replying with “no more information is necessary”. I’ve written complains to Adelikat earlier this year, and as far as I can tell, was completely ignored. Despite what people here might think, I have years of moderating/managing multiple different forums/groups under my belt and know to act completely different towards people when I’m in such a role. Just to say that I’m not just whining about the staff, I’ve spent the past 11 years of my life 24/7 reading/moderating forums, I know how these things go.
So, your complaints about the site staff being non-caring and "oblivious" to the community are entirely based on the (in)action of one person (adelikat)? To be honest, I'm not really sure why everyone is always expecting adelikat to respond to everyone's small issues or complaints. adelikat is generally pretty busy with many things, including keeping the site up running and especially working on BizHawk development. I'm not surprised he wouldn't respond to these sort of messages, he clearly has better things to do in this time rather than get involved with people having issues with each other or with staffers on forums. He shouldn't be needing to 'babysit' members on this forum, so to speak. Besides, we have plenty of moderation staff that are always active and into community management. Me, Invariel, or Samsara for instance. As a forum administrator, I am de facto in charge of the moderation staff, so if you have an issue with any moderator, then try contacting me instead of adelikat. If there is a judge or publisher you have an issue with, then contact the respective senior judge/publisher. The site administrators are busy people, so I can understand quite well why they will not always be able to respond to individual people's issues. So next time, try contacting other staff members, those that actually are in charge of, or are involved with community management, instead of just the #1 top admin.

I am not asking for content of the conversation. I am asking about context. How did things come to this stage, and such. I believe these are very relevant to the current discussion. Insults do not breed out of nowhere. What exactly is the matter at hand (what sort of insults, what sorts of hostile behavior) is, I believe, very relevant to the current discussion as well. And again, without as much as a name, and with no context, there is very little anyone can do. What do you aim to achieve with the extremely scarce amount of information you have provided?

Warp, as long as all we have to go for is "a staff member insulted me", there is very little we can talk about. What kind of staff member? Is it a publisher, a judge, a forum moderator? What words or sentences did he/she write specifically? What is the context of this PM conversation? What was it about, how did it start, etc.? I'm fine if you at least bring out a name, because then we can at least tell where to start. As long as we do not get these answers, there is not much we can do here. Until then, this topic is useless.

Hmm, the submission date for most (if not all) of those movies is 2007. We had a conversation on IRC the other day about who held the record. Part of the reason I made this topic was so someone who is willing to do the grunt work finds who has the actual record.
Many of these movies predate the automatic submission system that is in use today, which is why the submission date is only later (and by NesVideoAgent instead of the actual author). The movies/publication dates are correct, so they are indeed all from 2004.

Felipe, I had hoped that ever since you had appeared to come back with yet another account (this being the fourth one now) you had finally learned from your mistakes. You managed to hide proof of your identity for a long enough time, and you actually appeared to have become a productive forum poster for a while, who had nicely cooperated with other TASers to create a few decent TASes. Alas, now you seem to have relapsed back to all of your old habits again - the same ones you have previously been banned for - and have refused to own up to your past mistakes. You have wasted enough second chances now, and we're not giving you any more. Do not expect us to let you back again.

Should be fixed now for this post. It's a not-always-helpful side effect of having a moderator edit a post.

These days, as far as television goes, I only watch select amounts of sports/competitions that I'm interested in (including e.g. things like darts), and on other times I generally put on a channel like Cartoon Network or the like and just see whatever is on (if I like it). I don't really follow any series in particular. In general, I don't watch TV all that often, and not with any sort of consistent schedule or frequency.

I'm under the (slight) impression that this run was not initially unrejected because a few people, including adelikat, claimed it was or looked unoptimized, and the author admitted it could probably be improved. I haven't watched the movie myself, so I don't know how much of that is true. That said, since a lot of the criticism is that the game choice makes things look sloppy, perhaps it merits a look to see how much of it looks unoptimized and how much of it actually is unoptimized.

I have not yet seen this run, but I did see that testrun/WIP of some years back, and based on that, I expect this run to be completely awesome to watch. However, as I already stated at the time, I am strongly against publishing this run or anything like it. Even if it does not affect its goal of in-game time, it is still a movie that relies on an external cheat code to work. This breaks a fundamental site rule, and I will make no exception to it. TASVideos was founded on the principle of informing viewers what tool-assisted speedruns were and are, and that the "tools" involved were not cheat devices that directly modified the game data. Publishing this run would go directly against that very founding principle.

TASVideos and TASBot will be featured again at AGDQ 2016! The TAS Block is currently scheduled to appear on January 9th at 3:55 PM EST (8:55 PM UTC). As before, dwangoAC is organizing the block and needs volunteers to help out with various tasks. See the TASVideos at AGDQ 2016 topic for more details.

Yes, for a website to be able to support any arbitrary resolution and be easy to use on mobile devices of any size, would indeed be a very nice thing to have. In other news, grass is green, water is wet, ice is cold, and Captain Obvious is breaking speech records today on making statements of the obvious. My point is, it is easy to talk about how the site markup code can be improved in many ways and how it should be compatible with any device. That is more or less obvious, and there's not really much to argue against that. However, what would actually be useful is if people would actually have a go at redesigning the site's CSS code for modern devices. Nahoc has had a few goes at rewriting the CSS code, to somewhat mixed response, but perhaps someone else has a better idea they could try to put into practice (or Nahoc could make improvements/additions to his original redesign). Things like that would be much more useful.

This may sound a bit insensitive, but I really can't understand the relevance of this topic at a website like this one. It's like I were to go to a forum about... I don't know... chess, and declare there "hey, did you know that I'm a man?" Seems a bit superfluous. The expected answer would be that of puzzlement, and "yeah, so?" If someone comes to a forum about making runs of computer games and says "did you know that such and such person is trans?", I'm like, well, "yeah, so?" I don't really care what somebody is, especially not in a forum that's rather unrelated to such issues. Isn't this like a personal thing? You are what you are; I am what I am. So? In fact, I find it even more bothering when it's "did you know person X is Y", rather than "I am Y". It's a bit like gossiping. I do understand that some people struggle with their identities and it's important to them, but there's the right place for everything.
Out of respect to Narcissa (and transgender people in the community in general), I don't want to see this whole thread derailed by a discussion on on-topicness and such, so I hope we can be done with this quickly. Here are some points:
  • This is the off-topic section of the forum. It does not need to be very relevant. We have plenty of topics here that have less relevance to TASing or its community.
  • This is a topic about a very significant change for a very notable player from the speedrun community, which is obviously closely related to the TASing community. It is not some random forum poster talking about themself, nor is it a writeup about some random insignificant person. Obviously we can't have a topic about every single user's identity, but this is a good one to lead the topic with.
  • It's not gossiping when the person in question announced the change herself to begin with.
  • Where else other than in a thread in off-topic would you have people discuss about their identity struggles? This topic (or one like it) would seem ideal for that purpose.
So yeah, please keep this topic on-topic to itself. I'm sure there are many people who have interesting experiences and valuable advice to share to each other in regards to gender identity. Let's keep the topic focused on that.

NES Ghosts 'n Goblins never has been 're-obsoleted', nor had anything else done to its status, ever since it was un-obsoleted with the introduction of the Vault back in 2012. I have no idea where Radiant got the thought from that anything has been done to it recently, nor how "a lot of community members" have expressed disagreement to a re-obsoleting decision that never happened.

I think it's a bit disappointing that, once again, it seems we won't be getting an actual good old (tool-assisted) speedrun of a game, running on a real console, and instead everything will again be some kind of gimmick or non-speedrun demonstration. This is a bit funny, given that 99% of TASes are any% game completions as fast as possible.
The reason for this is innovation. Hardly anybody is interested in seeing runs just being played back. Ikaruga back in SGDQ was a neat run to watch, but Twitch chat* was flooded with ResidentSleepers half the time because there's nothing extraordinary about watching a video file which you can also just do on YouTube at any time you wish. Other than the possibility of desyncs during console verification, there is very little tension involved in watching a TAS being streamed live, so a lot of less-patient people might zone out fast. Instead, they watch TAS Blocks because they want to see truly extraordinary things happen, like watching games getting rewritten through console ports, games overwritten by other games through console ports, Twitch chat streamed through console ports, and other fun stuff like that, things that nobody has ever seen anything like it before. It's things like that that have led to great viewer reception, tech articles, attracting people to the site, etc. Yes, it's not exactly representative of 90% of runs that are on the site, but it does probably impress and entertain the audience the best, while definitely still being tool-assisted and related to TASing endeavors. That is my take on it at least, judging from comments and messages I've seen all over the internet during/right after the past TAS Blocks. *Not that Twitch chat is a good representative of the overall audience, but it is one nonetheless.

Any thoughts on those?
Quick thoughts: Moving into Moons: I agree with Ghosts 'n Goblins and Mega Man Battle Network 2. Disagree with The Karate Kid and Hydlide. Moving into Vault: I agree with Spyman and Nikujin. Not yet fully decided about Syobon Action, leaning towards Vault.

I'm tired. You're against any changes? Whatever. This is one of the thread's options. Just don't think your disbelieve in people needing it helps anything. See my sig. What hurts me though it when I ponder and explain something for pages, and then see "what, you didn't explain anything, lol".
I concur, whatever. When you refuse to answer my questions, when you make up statements about my stance, when you are reduced to making false claims about me ignoring or disbelieving people, I am done here. There is no more I will say on this subject.
