Can the Sonic Solo & Sonic & Tails runs be merged, so the fastest input is kept? Or is the game not hex edit friendly?

Great movie, walks straight into a wall 3 seconds in, must be part of a glitch setup?

This cannot be rejected because "too many branches", there's already 3 Sonic ring attacks and an Amy Rose hack submissions, these are just made up challenges & an unofficial hack, unlike this Sonic solo. To delay or reject for this reason would be unfair to the author. No more sonic ring attacks or hacks should be accepted anymore imo.

MUGG has optimized the GB version already, but there's no mention of it here. Did you try all the tricks used in that to see if any are transferable? http://tasvideos.org/3556M.html

Surprised there's no way to exploit directional turbo button spam which bugs the camera, such as enemy, boss spawning or sequence break :(

* Speaking of, skip the extra Heart piece in the Jungle Temple -- instead, go for the one in Alsedo Ocean along the way to obtaining the Pygmy Armor: http://www.gamefaqs.com/genesis/586607-wonder-boy-in-monster-world/faqs/52545 It looks to save time over the detour you take in the Temple.
I have tested this, and it will save about 2,000 frames, can it be hex edited in? simply go for the pygmy armor earlier, after getting return

* Look into collecting money to buy early Ceramic Boots. Especially in Alsedo Ocean, there's a few hidden chests that net almost 1,000 GP, each. Combined with manipulating money drops, you might be able to save enough without sacrificing time.
also don't forget the big fish gives big money bags, but has high hp. bags give a max of about 2000 gold, so you only need 2 to reach the 3780 needed the marine boots used to complete the ice castle have a speed of 384 sub pixels, the ceramics are 448, but with all the ice I don't think it will save time, but should be tested some frames may also have been lost with unnecessary jumping

ziminaiman 6 months ago Ok, so the time bonus is 50000 for 30 sec or less, and 10000 after that. I was looking to see how long it took to add that 40000 extra to the score, and it's about 7 seconds. In other words, every stage that's complete in about 24-30 seconds could be optimized by just waiting out the timer to 30 (or 31 if that's the cutoff). Legit?
any chance of this being optimized further? assuming above is true, the following levels fit in the 24-30 timeframe: Aquatic Ruin 2 - 0:27::16 Hill Top 1 - 0:24::25 Oil Ocean 2 - 0:29::20 so sonic could either wait at the start/end of each level

Not sure if that CC skip video is real anymore. Making a fake video wouldn't be hard, especially when there's no sound. Nobody else has been able to reproduce it, I've tried it myself with saving/loading states no success. One way to make see if it's possible is getting the buggy location, camera angle and just trying every combination. Whether this is practical or you need a lua script..? If it is real there may be something else that has to be done previously to 'enable' it.

hello, yes I still lurk here. i enjoyed the publication, bit sad that it's not in color anymore though At the start of the final level( http://youtu.be/HKq8leFT5MM?t=5m33s ) when you do 3 jump dashes then a tiny hop to fall down a massive hole. What if you retime the 3 jump dashes to avoid that little hop to save frames? For example starting the 3 jump dashes a few frames later

Can't you just hex edit it in to the current run?

With more optimization and better strategy, I see no reason why a publishable tas is not within your grasp. But 7 days of a tas of this length and game type sounds way too short. I'd imagine at least a month of work.

Did you really make those 40 seconds back by picking up the bazooka? non-tas version goes without

Here is my idea of a FFVII playaround: Load from pre-made save file with two characters dead at Gold Saucer on disk 3. Get maximum high scores on ALL Gold Saucer games (not including submarine unless it can be glitched as it's too slow) Can't do Chocobo racing unless there's a glitch. Do one round of battle square using as many glitches as possible. Leave Gold Saucer, overflow emerald weapon (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ovxL1wdjtI) then own ruby like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thFsHr5v1yM) Then do a few more glitches and suicide in a funny way. The idea is just to cram as many super lucky moves and glitches in to one movie.

The example run I did was only an example. You need to find out the most optimized spin/slide/jump combination. Once you figure it out you can use it on every level up until you get the sprint ability. Address for x velocity is
02015058
signed
4 bytes
walk/spin/jump - 512 slide - 1280 at peak

Agree with other posters, just need a complete run, then we have something to work off in regards to improvements. Plus it will get more people posting.

I guess it would really depend on how good the strategy of killing 40 enemies is. My belief is if you had cait-sith finish all bosses and compulsory enemies, and kill some groups of 5 Kyuvildens's (grass hopper things) in Nibelheim mountains, you could get it quite quick. http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197341-final-fantasy-vii/faqs/16441
Note 2: There are some exceptions to what does and does not count toward your kill total. 1) Kills made with Odin's Steel Cutting Sword attack do NOT count. 2) Kills made by residual poison damage, i.e. the damage taken each round, not the damage caused by the initial casting, do NOT count. 3) Kills made by enemies you have manipulated do NOT count. 4) Kills made with Death Sentence do NOT count. 5) Kills made with the Death spell DO count. 6) Kills made with Flash command DO count. Also of interest, miming your limit breaks DOES count toward the usage totals. It's also worth mentioning that apparently nothing you do in battle arena, be it kills or uses, will count toward your totals.

There are a few problems using slots: - time taken to kill 40 enemies with cait sith to unlock 2nd limit. - time taken to build his limit up every time you want to use it, think multi-form bosses - some people will find the run less interesting if used all the time It's can't tell if it is faster or not. I have been testing pause/menu skipping but haven't found anything yet.

maybe this glitch can be used somewhere to skip-text/scene, I found it tricky to do in real-time on the PC, need to confirm if it works on PS version via tas. Link to video There must be way more undiscovered glitches using the menu/pause to interrupt sequences, you already used it to skip zolom scene in the tas.
