Why was this canceled? I haven't had a chance to try your suggestion.
There's been some new starts being discovered with some popular runners running a seperate category that we do on Speedrun.com known as 'Good Ending' which could save time. I'm re-doing it.

Alright...then I'm at a loss here. I am not able to sync this submission.
Have you tried switching the core to Otoshock? That’s the one I used. Bizhawk 2.10 only has Otoshock.

I use Bizhawk 2.10 for this one as it's the most relaible version to sync with my inputs. Also, I use the very last BIOS, SCPH7003.bin which was recommended to me by Spike a long time ago.

That part does look a bit strange, but it’s actually faster to start walking right after the drop than to wait for the animation to finish. Interestingly, in the PAL version of the game, the behavior is the opposite.
I tried doing that strat on the PC version, the stop turn glitch is difficult in realtime the ledge glitch is easier. Update I just did a check, the way I do it in the any% TAS, on PC I got a 4.06 and your way I get a 4.18...

Here’s something I noticed. What about the ledge drop around 01:15? I feel my way in the 12:50 run is quicker. I had a go at doing the Mudokon rescue strat in Zulag 1 it’s doable in RTA on PC, nice find!

Thank you, Sam. 52:24, right? I’ll check it out and see how it can be improved. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and give feedback! edit: Spawning and despawning enemies does take some time, but in this specific spot it doesn’t seem to make much difference, since Abe doesn’t need to jump over those mines - and jumping is slower overall. I’ve just compared both variations of that section:
  • Alive Abe: 319 frames
  • Dead Abe: 200 frames
Yeah I'm talking about the actual bit when the Slog disappears at the end of Zulag 4 before the Boardroom. In most runs and TASes the slog doesn't spwan so the disappearing animation doesn't happen. In my 100% run I was able not to spwan any Slogs in that section so the animation doesn't appear: https://youtu.be/r4Txh4ZCA_g?si=zFZs_U-UCm7hBCk-&t=3818

Nice to see you back TASimg again Dooty, I noticed a little thing that can be improved around 52:24 with the Slog that spawned causing it to disappear. This can loose a little bit of time comparing to my any% run he doesn’t spwan at all at that section.

I been testing Abe’s Exoddus in DOSBOX and I’m experiencing audio and FMV issues. There is a fix that can resolve these issues using a DDDraw dll. I’m running this on a desktop preset with a Pentium III. I have read that Voodoo cards have issues with audio even on PCEm. I tried with a PCI audio driver on PCEm and get the same background sounds in the secret area chime. Take a look at this clip https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PyS6yA-787pEHYtIRkIuq-_C53NFfb51/view?usp=drivesdk

I've been going through your movie for a few days and I must have some local problems here. When it comes time for the second disc, I get errors that crashes the emulator. I'm going to have to experiment with some things to see if I can get past it.
You have to run it through an XML file. I bundle disc 1 and disc 2 and run the movie through there. I'm on a different laptop myself so I may check it on here with the XML file to see fi it gets to the second disc. Also on the current movie page, it says "Soul Storm Brewery," It should say "SoulStorm Brewey. The words 'SoulStorm' are 1 word.

I try that opening and closing using the Virtual Pad and it says 'Incorrect disc inserted'. I know where I gone wrong. I have to open the disc first, let go of the 'open' input and then press the close button. Just testing the disc swapping so I know what to do when I get to that point.

Well this is a shame, I'll have to cancel this one as I been told about some new strats that would save time for PSX. So there will be a new update. But not sure how long it'll take to sync it all. Cancelling this one for now.

Installation of Windows 98 seems to be impossible without the license key, so we can't support if officially on the site. We support XP and 95 because there's a way to not enter any license key for them. So you'll have to TAS this game in either XP or 95, depending on which one has fewer audio/visual bugs. Question tho: did you try enabling compatibility with earlier windows in file properties of the game's executable?
Yeah I belive it's something to do with the sampling rate that the sound plays back on the emulator. How about using Soundblaster 128 PCI? This one doesn't seem to have any audio glitches... https://youtu.be/Rx2H3IV9SG4?si=e52AK3Ti_POsoZvr&t=629 Update: it's getting there! I notice that Abe on Windows 95 has audio issues. I.e: it sturggles to play high pitched sounds inclduing the Windows 95 jingle at it's full capacity. Here's a video of AE on Windows 95 I did yesterday, the secret chime is making lots of background noise related to audio emulation - I will make an audio only video later. https://youtu.be/mA4-byY5aHE?si=N4c-FuVNMbwwulr-&t=109

Screen transitions take longer on Octoshock in 2.9.1, but IGT is representative of actual gameplay times because it excludes the transitions. This room is 1 in-game frame longer in the new movie, because the jump is timed differently: Why do you take the lower route here? It cost you 54 realtime frames because you have to go back and forth (causing 2 more screen transitions). 3 in-game frames are lost due to the new timesave, because you start the next level facing backwards. But there's also 3 frames lost here: During the next level IGT difference is reduced to 15 frames, hard to tell why, because the strats look identical? On this screen the improvement is reduced to just 2 IGT frames: 2 IGT frames are gained back before the next level starts. During the rest of the game the difference becomes 11 IGT frames of overall improvement.
I do the lower bit first because on PC it saves time. But I think I might find a way to save time using the new strat. For PC I save -0.9 frames doing it. There is a quicker way to set it up by doing a log turn. I might have to set this one to delayed see if I can improve it. I think I can.

So it sounds like if what I'm reading from Samtastic is correct, the older submissions of this game benefitted from inaccurate emulation (of at least the load times and possibly game framerate too). It looks like the only way out of this mess is to try to resync the older runs to the current BizHawk and see whether there actually is an improvement in the gameplay portions once the resync has been done...
I wonder how much effort that will take. Sam, any thoughts?
Well, the connumity haven't founded anything new for the past few months, but the strats that this run is using is currently the fastest that we use in the PC version of Oddysee. The RF backwards jump saves about 0.9 seconds on PC, but then it makes the game load slower on PSX. The PC version is ultimately the best port for speedrunning and Livepslit can accurately time in-game. 8:54 is quickest in-game PC world record at the moment, and it doesn't do the ultimate DDG at all. The Ultimate DDG can save around 2 seconds in an actual run. The value that I use is the in-game value and it outperforms the old submission by 20 frames, and it includes the latest starts that PC runs use, so this one is the most accurate PSX run.

What I do notice with the new emulator against the old one is that the older movies don't sync on the new emulator, and the new emulator does have a different FPS compared to the old one. The old movies didn't have accurate timings on the 2.4 emulator either. The new emulator runs the game diffrently, it adds more frames on at startup.

This submission puts me in a difficult position. It has been my experience that any IGT improvements would be acceptable, only if the last frame was the same or better. Sounds like a frame rule is in play, which negates the effort. I'm hanging on to this a bit longer. Sorry for the delay, but it hasn't been an easy situation to resolve.
That's totally understable. Most runners use the PC version as it's one of the quickest versions of the game to speedrun and the get the accurate in-game times on all categories and levels. We found on the PC version the RF backwards jump exit saves about 0.9 seconds compared to the strat used before.

The current submission 12:53.34 looks slower than the previous submission 12:50.09. Any idea why? https://tasvideos.org/8818S
It's to do with the new glitches that are used, like the RuptureFarms glitches, but there's a value that calculates the number of game changes 'in-game' frames. On the old movie, the number of changes stop in at 16301 whilst this movie stops at 16281. So this movie is 20 in-game frames faster. It's most likely the glitch at the end of RF causes the game to load more compared to the old movie but this one is 20 frames faster ingame.

I managed to improve the Zulags and saved 10 more IGT frames. Now I'm 21 IGT frames ahead from the old movie! https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638519969552980358 Please can it be replaced? Thanks.
