Sorry, I'm new to this.
That's alright, everyone was at one point in their life.

What is the light spike to remove blank frames?
So to put it in understandable terms, this means your input was truncated. "Spiking" became the name of the term cause I was the only one who did it to new submissions to just help the newer authors with the TAS and then others started calling it that. If you compare your input file to the one I provided and scroll to the bottom there'll be a bit of a clearer image.
dagit wrote:
What do you mean by overshot the input?
It's just as it says, your final input ended 10 thousand frames earlier but you just had quite the bit of blank input which was just all credits.
dagit wrote:
I wrote too much on the submission?
No this is perfect, more detail especially for and RPG the better.

As for the BIOS, sorry about that. I thought I did build it against an EU bios but must have made some configuration mistake. I find this part of bizhawk to be confusing.
If you put your bioses into the firmware folder of bizhawk and hit "scan" it'll automatically select the bioses you need to use, if it doesn't find it, it just means one thing. - It's not the recommended bios, so right click and select "info" and just see if yours is listed. -- If it's not listed in that, or the other regions it's not a recommended bios at all. Just be careful of the ones labeled "Proto".

I understand if this is too much of an RTA-viability theory TAS. I wasn't sure if those are acceptable publications for tasvideos. Unfortunately, until I learn some new way to use tasstudio I'm unlikely to work on this more. There is some weirdness in the game where moving a menu input, which is most of the inputs in this hour+ tas, changes the minimum delay between inputs. So shifting a menu forward or backward by just a few frames can cause multiple button presses to not be recognized. This cascades to every menu that happens after it in the tas. Finding a new minimum delays between these is very time consuming. This definitely feels like the sort of thing that could hypothetically be automated a bit with scripting specific to this game, but I can't figure out how to do that in tasstudio.
That's what the forums are for. Unfortunately there isn't an (SMS) Ultima IV section in the area it should be in but you can always make a new topic and start there by providing information. And as you mentioned, practice makes perfect. Learning the tools will be a benefit for you and you'll be hopefully able to do more down the line. Just get used to the tools, or reach out by asking questions to the IRC or Discord and hopefully will be able to help. And also use your userfiles to store progress or scripts on what you're working on.

Author kinda overshot the input a bit, found their encode and placed it on the submission text. Light Spike to remove the 10 thousand blank frames. Don't worry about resubmitting, the Judge can replace the file around. --- Unfortunately the biggest issue to this TAS besides the admission that this is more of a theory TAS, which I'll congratulate you on... is the BIOS that was used. Unfortunately (SHA-1) 3AF7B66248D34EB26DA40C92BF2FA4C73A46A051 is a built in BIOS for Alex Kidd in Miracle World and not the actual SMS bios (also a Korean BIOS). BizHawk would specifically like the (SHA-1) C315672807D8DDB8D91443729405C766DD95CAE7 BIOS, v1.3 (SMS, US/EU). The other two bioses that EU/US would like are both Prototype bioses, and doesn't change which main bios you need to have. I look forward to an updated run that takes a little more time in manipulation and work.

Disk Loads. PS2 on Fast Disk vs a PS1. I mean kinda can't save the TAS cause started from sram, but still the answer.

I think I get the second attempt at submitting this, but the Judge's comments came from this year and clearly outlines why it was rejected. I think honestly this was more suited to being a user movie instead of a submission... but I won't downplay your determination for a second attempt.

I've omitted some information. Some of the save is from the result screen and getting a better dialogue. However, doing this also requires readjusting some of the bombs and the input associated with it. Basically micro-adjustments. If I knew what I've done with my reference file for older Hawk I would share it proving it. Edit: Found it. This is where the statement of an improvement comes from. Created in 2.2.2 being able to sync as far back (to my knowledge to 1.11.6) and as far forward as 2.4. This is the actual improvement before being resync'd into 2.5.2.

I'm pretty sure there's a topic somewhere already about compression and PlayStation. The short answer is no, the long answer is in that thread somewhere.

Well for N64 games it's playing at 320x240. For DS games it's use melonDS instead, I mean after all Hawk's DS emulation isn't acceptable since it's basically been left there.

Considering that Digimon World is unfortunately a bit of an RNG game no. You'll have to start from scratch.

I dislike the fact that the TAS just basically skips to the end and plays as the final character instead of doing "natural" progression where you get the codes to each character in a "normal" playthrough. Shocking no one. Fighter TAS. Not really much to go in terms of Entertainment. No Vote.

Despite the fact that the Discord version of Staff is more significant cause Discord logs the conversation for everyone. Also this: I'm not bringing anything to the table, but when there's a large significant agreeance with majority of Staff about this and one is making it difficult especially something that's been unofficially been in place for 2 years now you should get the realization why Staff won't ever agree with your stance Nach. It's because Staff want to evolve whilst you don't.

Why not ask directly at the source? WoL for retro games uses movie files from tool-assisted emulators (for the majority of them) and there's a chance that some of the members have kept their files.

I'm going to suggest to the author to pursue for this to be set to "delayed" and take like a month to work on it and see if you can trim off anything else you can find.

YouTube's 3D mode is fine. Besides the major issue that you now have to wear your glasses backwards (Cause HTML5 is derp'd).

How deliberate is it that he posted on the wrong thread tho? Last comment was on the 10/11th Nov 2018. It wouldn't haven't been on this first page of the Published Movies section of the forums. But here we are. For some reason being brought up on the wrong thread with no sense behind it cause we have to string it hard together. Since the currently published run is an 8:03 (that got adjusted by the site parser) but instead what's actually being referenced is this 8:04 TAS.

Mate, you're gonna have to defend better if you're going to use exploitable game mechanics and compare that to cheats/debugs being used. All your points make no sense here's the few I'll go over.
Acumenium wrote:
Developers did not intend to leave in glitches either, much less arbitrary code execution, but both get utilized to beat games.
Ah yes, the two extremes one of which is Pokemon and the other which is Pokemon. Wait, hang on. ONE of which is Bubsy 3D and the other is that of Super Mario Bros. 3. Glitches uses the mechanics of the game that is provided to abuse the game. Have you seen Crash 3? ACE well requires dismantling the game's code structure without accessing it and being able to jump to another point in the game.
Acumenium wrote:
Almost all TASes feature button presses faster than even a turbo controller, of which those aren't official either.
Even though turbo controllers is every other frame, you know... the same rate as mashing in the TASing world. Also don't forget the method of "turbo" is console verifiable on TASVideos with TASes that do feature them. So get your facts straight for that one.
Acumenium wrote:
One human player will never, ever be able to do most glitches seen in TASes as they require absolutely frame-perfect timing that a human is literally incapable of.
There's a term for this. It's called TAS-Only, and some RTA runners will go mad for doing a TAS only trick in real time cause my God. You know a good example to this is Super Mario World when they were finally able to crack ACE to the same route as the TAS. Just because it's frame perfect doesn't mean it's impossible. Why do you think runners who exclaim at GDQs who do the insane tricks during their runs in a marathon setting go THIS IS A ONE/TWO FRAME WINDOW during their runs? Please get a better example or point. --- You want a final example. Read the Japanese manual to the Famicom version of Zelda. You'll see a part where they mention making a noise in the second controller will kill a specific enemy type. You know, something that isn't mentioned in the manual of Mega Man 3 (or Rockman 3) where using the second controller allows this. Therefore an unintended mechanic left behind the developers (that was actually removed from the European version) therefore a debug feature left behind, therefore not allowed in runs.

The TAS is taking full use of debugging features which is unfortunately for this case not allowed. There's a total of 550 frames of this input method being used. - 212 frames of Right for High Jump. - 337 frames of Up to slow Animations down - 1 frame featuring both. The currently Published movie for reference has a grand total of... zero.
