Since it's just a warning, I just need to make it not block launching the game.

A couple seconds after your encode ends, there's a sound similar to an in-game dialog appearing. Would you mind checking if it's possible to skip through it in the dark and maybe make the ending continue in some form?

The movie is running now! I needed to run sudo snap install dotnet-sdk --classic to run DepotDownloader, is that correct? Also I needed sudo to use DepotDownloader itself, which resulted in having to run sudo chmod +777 ./Chowdren.

annotations.txt in this movie is not a file but a folder containing config.ini, editor.ini, and input once again, and these are different from the ones in the main movie.
Version used: Linux 1.15 (August 2nd 2018), 64-bit, DRM Steam The current Steam release (also labelled as 1.15) is not the correct version
How do I obtain the correct version and how do I identify it?

The site already used to maintain a 13:7 ratio between entertainment and tech in order to calculate the overall rating for every movie. If every user rating is merged to the same ratio, then it would keep every movie's overall rating (mostly) the same. That should be the way to go, imo.
Agreed.

Alright, so, I can confirm that the game runs fine under libTAS if I'm using the XFCE desktop environment. I can also thus confirm that this movie syncs on libTAS v1.4.2 stable.
Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure if they still apply as I know the movie rules were rewritten and vastly simplified a while ago (judges feel free to correct me), but the libTAS section in the legacy movie rules goes into detail about sync instructions.
It's here now https://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/LibTAS#MovieSubmissions

Sandbox is technically a subset of Playground if we look at original terms.

I like the idea of Playground, but I prefer the name “Showcases”. Playground seems like a more… casual term? idk exactly how to word it, but Showcases just comes across as a more fitting term, since this could be used for LOTADs and the like. I just wouldn’t be able to take something uploaded to a “playground” seriously compared to something clearly dedicated to showcases. maybe I’m just nitpicky tho lol
The problem is Showcase is a planned new name for Moons. See this discussion Post #511194.

So I've got a 4K encode of an old Mega Man 2 TAS that I'd like to submit to the YouTube channel (still need to add the logo and the disclaimer). I'm trying to follow this guide to get a feel for how the sideloading process works, but all the links seem to be broken. Is there a replacement for the Encoder TASVideos Channel Manager?
There's no replacement but it's not used anymore either, because we don't store encodes on the server anymore, we upload them directly to yt. If your encode is good, upload it to mega or any other fitting file hosting and we'll grab it from there.

I don't entirely follow. I'm not necessarily saying this is something that ought to be applied across the board. I think it's pretty safe to say that different communities have different ways of doing things. However, the post you are linking to suggests that only categories with "unique goals" ought to be branches. Wouldn't that be applicable in this case? Because from my perspective, the movie that this discussion thread is dedicated to does not have a unique goal, whereas the current branchless movie for this game does have a unique goal, i.e. not going out of bounds. It sounds like we are both in support of the same thing, I'm just not exactly sure why this is something that wouldn't or has not worked. Is it because of the bit of not updating branches on obsolete movies?
The agreement about this submission was that it doesn't need the label, because the technique mentioned in that label is commonly used when speedrunning this game, and "inbounds" is an exception goal, which is what we mean by "unique". I just meant that in general, treating any% as blank branch won't work here at tasvideos, because it leads to all sorts of weird branch labels and even less consistency in what those labels mention.

I am not at all a part of the Luigi's Mansion community, but generally I agree that branches should not be based on what glitches or techniques a category does use, but instead those it excludes. We tried this and it didn't quite work. Post #510912

There won't be any definitive policy on reencoding standard definition videos. Encoding is a volunteer job, we don't tell encoders what to do, we only tell them how to do it. There are some TODO lists for those interested in helping. But since overwhelming majority of our viewers watch on youtube, archive.org is mostly for medium quality backups, so low priority.

Thanks, that's great. One small bug: revision 71 of Text Formatting Rules fixes the example markup to refer to files.tasvideos.org, but revision 70 had already removed the live markup for the image.

What time is this run meant to be? https://github.com/TASVideos/tasvideos/issues/808 says it's wrong but it's not mentioned what it should be nor how to verify it. The movie doesn't contain this info either. Also we can't accept a movie with hard dependency on a Discord download. There should be a way to obtain the runner reproducibly from a versioned release, because we're meant to verify that it's legitimate. Does it sync on libtas 1.4.2?

If a game is not emulated well at all, it may not be accepted until the accuracy improves.

Your submission must be reproducible. Judges and Publishers will attempt to verify that your input file syncs on an officially released build of an accepted emulator. If your run fails to sync on an official release, it cannot be verified, and thus cannot be accepted.
Aside from hopeless situations like Dolphin (where you have to use interim builds for years just because official releases are insanely rare and not always functional for your games), we require using official releases of emulators, because interim builds may contain bugs that affect gameplay and compromise its legitimacy. I know libtas is not an emulator, but it's functionally similar as far as our policies are concerned. There's also a question of whether variable framerate is legitimate in this game.
Wiki: MovieRules#GameplayMustBeAccurateToHardware wrote:
You are not allowed to run a console or PC game in an unintended environment, including modifying emulator settings for unintended speed advantages.
If the developer(s) didn't mean to allow changing framerate on the fly, forcing it to arbitrary values as you go is technically similar to running it on incompatible hardware or overclocking your console. However compromising this kind of legitimacy should be okay for Moons as long as the movie is entertaining. Finally, all the sync notes should be put into the annotations file of the movie itself: Wiki: EmulatorResources/LibTAS#DocumentSyncRequirements
