Do what you want, I quit. I'll set my account to an invalid email address in order to lock it forever. Goodbye guys it was fun.

No, I canceled this because I don't want people to accuse me to be a cheater. In order for you to be right I'd need to uncancel this now that I gathered the so-wanted attention. I won't. I prefer to cancel my only decent TAS and feel right with myself.

Why would have I needed to do something like that? This TAS had 30 legit yes votes, I didn't need a fake one to get 31. You can't know how much sad I am now, I really hoped this one could get published.

Damn, this is the worst thing that could happen to my submission, a yes vote by someone who registered this very same day just to post here :\ Probably you thought to help me in this way, but how am I goign to explain them that you're not an alt account of mine? I might as well cancel this submission now, too bad, it was going so well until now ;_;

Yup, I usually complain about torrents, but this one went through quite fine, actually. edit: http://www.archive.org/download/shiningforce-tasv3-darkkobold/shiningforce-tasv3-darkkobold.avi Now if only an editor wants to fill it in... :)

I just wanted to say that I uploaded this one on archive.org, though for a problem on their servers I don't know when I'll be able to provide the mirror link here. This is just to inform other people that there's no need to reupload it on archive.org if you were planning to, also because of that problem on their servers which may lead to further uploads to fail as well (but they might get through just fine, I can't know that). Just give me a couple of days and I'll contact an editor as usual with the fixed link. Now to be at least slightly on topic, it's cool to see this run published :)

Way to bump a 2 year old thread Grue :p
Apparently this has been edited by sp00ky, though I don't know what he did because I fail at reading diffs. Probably the new bot, which wasn't in effect back then, saw a "not-grue'd" thread in the Gruefood forum and decided to post here. This would probably happen with any of the "not-grue'd" threads here, which are the majority since the new bot has been installed no more than a few weeks ago.

I'm surprised I never posted this pic before: A birthday present I got some time ago. So new I didn't even remove the "large" sticker :P

There's not much I can say about this run. In my book, glitches → yes vote. And also, random Japanese crap → yes vote. I wish I could vote yes twice.

It appears that those issues had been addressed, see ShinyDoofy's post below my one. There haven't been any official communications about Game Gear being approved now, though, at least afaik. But at least Dega should be accurate now.

Is the announcer saying "puzzle de pon! ready, go!" at the start of each level?
Yes, she is. She's also supposed to say "congratulations" at the end of each level, but fortunately that's skippable :P

Thanks. For the record, this isn't the only time Taito is known to use a captive RNG. From SuperHappy's Puzzle Bobble thread:

My only question is that a few times it looks like you shoot a "useless" bubble that seems like it could be eliminated. One example off the top of my head is round 7, where you shoot yellow, purple and orange. The yellow one doesn't do anything so it looks like you should have tried to do just purple orange (or orange then purple). My guess is that it was longer to manipulate the right colors than to just shoot the useless one?
Sometimes that's pretty much the case, yeah. Especially at the beginnings of rounds if I needed two specific kinds of bubbles to start out with. But there are also times when certain colors won't appear at all until certain conditions are met, in which case it's actually impossible to complete a round without shooting extra bubbles.
Apparently Taito doesn't like easy things, since SuperHappy had my same problem back then.

I agree with this statement. And yes vote, though I think it doesn't really matter at this point :)

Only thing I noticed...it seemed to lag at some parts on your input (like you'd shoot a ball...and then wait a second to shoot the next one when you were going to fire it in a different direction anways). Was this due to the game or you?
Derakon wrote:
I assumed that was him luck-manipulating the color sequence.
Correct. As I said, I tried to avoid to stand still as much as I could, but sometimes I had to, because shooting one more ball inbetween would have made me miss the lucky frame to get the color I needed.
eternaljwh wrote:
Then, Pisces. You clear both sides, before dropping the pattern, rather than just one (and I checked, blue balls were already unlocked, as seen when you used them to clear on left). It looked terribly slow compared to the rest of the movie. What's up with that?
I hoped I could delete only one side, yes. But see, sometimes colors get locked again, don't ask me why :\ Unfortunately without a disassembly of the game I can't know how the rng works, I could only work around it. My guess is that they set a treshold number of shots or something like that. To everyone: thanks for the feedback so far :) edit: fixed a minor typo

Here it would've been slightly faster to move the orange balls down one row; they'd have less distance to fly.
Yes. In fact in many levels I try to place balls at the lowest possible row for this very reason. Sometimes, however, I gave priority to reduce the rotation of the cursor, which is mandatory for me as it's the worst time consumer. Good point though, maybe in this specific occasion I did a wrong choice, nice find.

arkuAdo and Mitjitsu: I reworded a bit that passage in the submission text. I didn't mean that I wanted to extabilish a new world record with the rerecords, and sorry if I sounded presemptuous, I just wanted to say that I put some thoughts before each shot, as I spent up to 50 or even 100 rerecords for some of them since the rng was so tricky, not to mention the times I had to rollback to the beginning of the level to see if I could find a faster strategy. I had: a savestate at the end of the previous level, a savestate at the beginning of the current level, a savestate at the end of the previous move, a savestate with the current position in the current move. In the end I think the number of rerecords is appropriate for a movie of this kind.

Ah, I see. It's the same thing asked by bobxp, I couldn't manipulate a green ball any sooner so I decided to have some fun with the orange balls to entertain the viewer. Unfortunately the rng isn't friendly sometimes. I'll double check it now in case I missed something, though. Stay tuned, I might edit this post later. edit: confirmed. I just spent ~200 rerecords on this, the green ball can't appear any sooner than that. It is actually possible to get it one shot sooner, but the delays introduced make the level slower in the end. Unfortunately all I can do there is to waste a few shots.

Welcome :) 1) You should use roms labeled as "[!]" in the GoodXXX sets. They are perfect dumps. When there are more versions, such as "J", "E", "U", which stands for Japan, Europe, USA, you should choose wisely. European roms run at 50Hz so they're not a good choice as a rule of thumb. Japanese roms may have unreadable text, but sometimes there are bugs and glitches that work only in them. It's a good thing to discuss the rom version beforehand in the discussion forums if you need some specific advices. Also, hacks aren't welcome, and exceptions are rarely granted. One more thing, please note that you can't ask for roms on this forum. So you should edit your post to blank out that request. 2) You must record from start, without savestates if the game makes use of them (e.g. an RPG that saves your progress and your stats). It must be like you're playing the game for the first time. There is no clear rule about the ending point instead, but once the movie is finished, you must ensure that the game gets to the last screen in the game without further input, might it be a "The End" screen or a "Game Over" screen. 3) Emulators and NesVideoAgent calculate that by counting the frames recorded. 4) See 2. 5) You don't submit an AVI (or MKV) file to tasvideos.org, you submit your recording (file.smv), zipped. Then a qualified encoder will make an AVI (or MKV), but only if your speedrun is good enough to be published. There is a number of people (including me) who make encodes of the movies in the workbench sometimes though. I hope this can be of some help :)

Chatlog 1 ikarikeiji: 5:04 ikarikeiji: why did you put the blues where you did? nineko84: One moment, let me see nineko84: Because red balls can't be manipulated before ikarikeiji: ohh nineko84: I explained that in the description, sometimes the rng prevents you from getting some colors unless you fulfill a certain condition ikarikeiji: game must have a complicated ball-generation algorithm nineko84: They're just locking out some colors nineko84: Unless you: -do N shots -delete all the bubbles of a color (2 shots in advance) -delete specific bubbles (2 shots in advance) nineko84: I had to wait 2 more shots in that level, so I thought to do a "one million shot" Chatlog 2 ikarikeiji: Also ikarikeiji: 5:54 ikarikeiji: why didn't you just link up the oranges straight away? nineko84: Let me see nineko84: Same deal nineko84: Two more shots required to get the green balls ikarikeiji: Ah right nineko84: The green balls can't appear until the blue balls are all deleted nineko84: And since the rng works on the next next ball, two shots of lag are needed

Wait, there are no orange balls in that level, only red, blue, and gray. Unless we're thinking about two different levels.

As far as I know, it's used only in France. I remember with a smile, however, the old floppy disk packs from IBM, labeled 720kB/720ko
