For the record, I'm doing up a downloadable and ("512kb") streaming encode of the new version of the run, just as I did for the original version. EDIT: download here: http://www.archive.org/download/GenesisSonicTheHedgehog2ByFuzzerdSonikkustarUpthornAglarIn1850.9/sonic2-tas-fuzzerdsonikkustarupthornaglar.mp4 Stream up above, or here: http://www.archive.org/download/GenesisSonicTheHedgehog2ByFuzzerdSonikkustarUpthornAglarIn1850.9/sonic2-tas-fuzzerdsonikkustarupthornaglar_512kb.mp4

If you so desire, we can replace the submission file. Considering the contribution of x2poet, were I to do this I would contemplate adding x2poet as a co-author.

"Was definitly entertaining" Should be "definitely". An "it" at the beginning would be helpful, too. And no, I'm not going to continue the trend by saying this was "definit[e]ly entertaining", because it wasn't for previously mentioned reasons.

I found the new camera work extremely distracting and annoying, and would almost certainly prefer a version of this without it.

Ah, but it's extremely easy to reach the average endpoint in NetHack, and we like having runs with a high difficulty level - which, in this case, could be argued to be the most difficult ending to achieve.

I would prefer control over the scaling process rather than allowing an unknown algorithm of YouTube's to take precedence, given YouTube's penchant for low-quality output.

If you're going to ask this question, you should put together some screenshots so that non-encoders actually know the impact of what you're asking.

I don't get the point of submitting this - I'd prefer there be actual improvements found, as opposed to submitting a near-identical run. I'll also point out that the time stated here is longer than the old run. Where did the extra delays come from?

It sounds very strange that they haven't fixed such a bug (given that the game is open source and all).
NetHack's official releases happen on a mysterious schedule; we haven't had an official release since late 2003. There are a large number of bugs which apparently have been fixed for the next release.

I believe this can be classified as a hack. As such, it is an extremely boring hack, as its sole purpose seems to be to allow for skipping directly to a glitched ending. I say No.

In time, may I ask you how you guys encoded this video? It looks like it has amazing fps as well as great resolution without being too heavy. Thanks in advance.
The essentials are right here on the site. The details have evolved slightly since most of that page was written, but the same core techniques are outlined there.

In my view, this is close to one of the most boring runs I've seen submitted here. It's a terrible, terrible game choice, and I think that's why mike89 picked it for a submission at the time he did. Voting no.

Upon request, I've done a(n HD) encode so that more feedback can be sought upon this run. Check the submission text.

Download an encode here: http://www.archive.org/download/GenesisSonicTheHedgehog2ByFuzzerdSonikkustarUpthornAglarIn1850.9/sonic2-tas-fuzzerdsonikkustarupthornaglar.mp4 Stream to follow shortly, so that a good quality stream is available up in the submission text. This is also part of the reason I'm uploading directly to archive.org.

Downloadable/streamable (i.e. not HD) encodes already in progress, for the curious. For the record: EPIC WIN. The least I could have hoped for (the Metropolis 2 skip) is present and accounted for and you've gone far and above that. You even managed to save time on an autoscroller. EDIT: Here's my suggested screenshot (pre-optimised):

This input file:
  • was done using the (E) version of the original game, not the hack;
  • only completes 1-1, and does so very slowly.
I think no more needs to be said.
