Mario had a hell of a time in Sonic's world on NES, so he gave Sonic his world and some crap controls on Genesis.
If you haven't played this game, I amusingly suggest you try it. The speed and controls (or lack thereof) are abysmal. Then watch the movie.

Run Info

I meant to run this a long time ago, but it wasn't possible to accurately run because of an emulator bug in Gens where Lakitu would spawn infinite spinys. An emulator without the bug has been out for a short while, and after seeing a WIP of this game on the forum I felt like I finally had to finish it. The game is very straightforward as expected of a Chinese pirate. It is also programmed pretty poorly as expected of a Chinese pirate.

Notes

Only the 2-3-4 warp in 1-2 and the world 5 warp in 4-2 are implemented (the one in 1-2 being backwards from NES SMB). No vines are implemented. Springs are implemented but none are seen in this run.
It is faster to lose the mushroom in 1-2 and get another one for 5-4 than to get on the ceiling of 1-2 by a few frames.
In castle 6-4, there is an unavoidable fire bar that will damage you as you run past. There are edited ROMs that fix this, but the original pirate cart has this bug. As there are no mushrooms in this level, if you die or otherwise are not Blue Sonic when reaching this fire bar, there is no way past it.
The bloopers turning into fireballs in 8-4 is common, but the platforms turning into fireballs in 5-4 is not...

Bugs

Jump Bug

The floor calculation is really really bad, so Sonic can jump in midair. In fact it is faster to jump than to fall, as falling will reduce speed to 1 for a frame when the top position is recalculated.
Hitting the ceiling in a jump starts counting down the jump value from its current value, so in castles I can ceiling-hug the entrance. Saves and costs no time :)

Flagpoles / Level exit triggers

Not really a bug, except that it can be exploited with the jump bug. Yeah, they can be jumped over, and yes, there are end-level triggers after them. Ending by jumping over a flagpole will save several seconds.
The World 1-1 flagpole is lower than all the others, so Sonic must jump higher to clear them.
There is also a level exit in castle 7-4 that 5-4 and 6-4 did not have.

Thanks for watching

feos: Judging...
Noxxa: Replaced submission file with a 26-frame improvement.
feos: Accepting to Vault. Notice: this game only actually works in an emulator with the [f1] ROM dump, not any of the two [!] ones (even in Genesis+GX), so I believe it's okay to accept a non-[!] ROM run.

Questions why Kura is awaiting an encode when he should have the game and emulator to begin with. This was originally his TAS which got destroyed by true Added temp encode to description.

Vote: Did you find this movie entertaining? (Vote after watching!)
Yes, but I'm not sure if it's because of the absurdity of the game or the TAS itself. lol

Big oversight in 7-4, can do it 31 frames faster. Don't TAS tired. No big visual difference, but need to redo world 8, so I'll work on this and have this done tonight/tomorrow/day after tomorrow.

The kingdom is saved. Now try again! In other words, yes vote. I’m not surprised to see TAS of this game from an author who already TASed Somari :-p

Bereft of redeeming qualities; flying over the world was interesting only once, and the game is bad enough that it's just bad, instead of entertainingly bad. I guess it's vault-worthy but I didn't find it entertaining, despite true's efforts to inject some interest into the game.

But if it was a licensed game, especially a popular one, would the thought be different? Probably :) Edit: fixed the glaring mistake in 7-4; saves 26 frames. no substantial visual changes other than unnecessary screenscroll speedup wait removed in 7-4. and resync in 8-1. new inputfile is here; please update, thanks Also, for those that don't know / if it isn't clear, this is basically the exact opposite of Somari. WST brought this up but both games are universally bad in their controls and music. SJ6 visuals are better though, not needing to go from a 16-bit to 8-bit helps. (though what help it is ultimately doesn't matter)

I have to agree with these sentiments. I kinda expected more insane close to the ground, bounce the shit off every enemy kinda insanity during some of those levels... not SMW cape tactics. Granted it was an amusing hack... the timer counting down while you save the Princess, all whilst she pats Sonic. "Who's a good Sonic? You! Yes you! Good Boy!!" I voted meh. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

The perpetual air jumping really reminds me of Cheetahmen. That probably isn't a good thing to be reminded of when looking at a game. Voted meh for the game itself being bland, but I still think it deserves the spot for it being done fast and it was a rather "popular" hack...well edit, I guess. I don't think it is changed enough to be classified as a romhack.

Seems like there is no warp tree and warp tunnel to 8th world on 4-2. I expected that the music and sound effects were almost the same as on SNES, but it doesn't stop my Yes vote!
TASing is like making a film: only the best takes are shown in the final movie.

The vines are not implemented at all, and the upper levels that they would reach aren't implemented either. Only two pipe areas are implemented IIRC. So yes, unless some major break is found that means going through half the game...

I'm sorry, but I'm voting No on this one. This game is practically the same thing as Super Mario Bros. All-Stars, except that you play as Sonic and the physics are broken. Better dump this one in the Vault, guys.

As much as I'm a fan of crossover game I think the fact that it's just a sonic sprite with Mario physics makes it a bit boring in my opinion. I vote no.

It isn't Mario physics, in any way at all. The game engine is an original engine even if some of the content isn't. Has the inputfile been updated yet? It is in this post.

It is updated now.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

I’m surprised that the in-game timer is still ticking after the princess was saved, does it mean it’s possible to die after saving her?

I believe so. You can die in the fire pit under the cage as well. Will confirm tomorrow and edit this post.

Optimized well, but yeah the entertainment is certainly on the dull side overall with how much of the game that can be bypassed with that flying glitch. Though it's hard to say that a more normal playthrough would be an improvement. Also, if this gets accepted to the vault would True be willing to take another crack at getting an updated run of Somari submitted. I actually kinda preferred that run despite how awful the game looked at times.

Somari also has some shit controls but there is a lot more global stuff that could be optimized so I really need to tear that one apart to re-do it. Yeah, the plan is to do it at some point, but I work full time and when I don't work I am working :( I preferred Somari too having played it when I was young...nostalgia and all that. Would also like someone to show progress to or to work with and that seems to be hard to get for these pirates.

This just looks like a very poorly programmed Super Mario Bros. clone to me. Voting NO.

One of the many Mega Drive bootlegs that uses the Sound Engine from High Seas Havoc. The music sounds horrible. I can't stand this game's physics.
I like Doraemon
