Introduction

This TAS improves the currently published [2203]NES BreakThru by dave_dfwm in 06:37.13 movie with 50 frames thanks to
  • slowing down instead of jumping when dodging the rolling stones on first level without losing (cam x) speed (few frames)
  • scaring off lag frames away successfully (most of the saves)
  • properly ending input file (1 frame)
The previous movie (secondarily) aimed for getting high-score. I traded them for entertainment whenever I had the opportunity for it. And still, my final score is 21100 points higher cause of the bullet storm we get in order to BreakThru.

Objectives

  • Aims for shortest input
  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.2
  • Krazy next-gen 4.5D driving mechanic highlights (= zero entertainment)
  • Doesn't documents the glitches used to surprise motherf the viewer.

Detailed informations

Level 1 - Mountain - 13 frames faster + 3200 points
  • Not sacrificing speed for the first 4 + 2 falling stones
  • Manipulated lag frames away
Level 2 - Bridges - 11 frames faster + 5400 points
  • Only 1 lag frame at first lag scene (~f5000) and 2 lag frames at the end of level
Level 3 - Prairie - 4 frames faster + 5800 points
  • Manipulated lag frame(s) away
  • Maybe a bit better jumping near the end? (on that tiny isle)
Level 4 - City - 1 frame faster + 2700 points
  • Manipulated lag frame away
Level 5 - Recover the aircraft - 21 frames faster + 9400 points
  • 4 lag frames for first lag scene at the beginning of the level
  • Maybe 1 frame better ending?

Possible improvements?

Krazier driving. I mean reducing the number of lag frames. Which seems impossible because of the situations and how the game can lag.

Miscellaneous

See you until my next TAS =)

feos: Accepting to Krazy next-gen 4.5D Vault.

I thought it worth to mention that this TAS was already done probably in 2014 but forgot to submit it (rewatched it by frames to make sure it's done). And I would also warn the encoder about the visual anomalies on the City part (3:47). I'm not really sure but if it would be possible to decrease the high contrast in the background, it would be not that much hurtful to the viewers.

Not bad. The game has some nice quirks, but ultimately it's an autoscroller without a lot of variety. The jumping looks ridiculous, and that's funny, but overall the game wasn't entertaining enough for me to vote it out of the Vault. Good job cleaning up lag, though the game still feels obnoxiously clunky at times. I doubt there's much you could do about it.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. As the author of the previous (most likely now to be obsoleted video), I'm happy to say a few things here. When I submitted my run, it was rejected due to bad game choice, and only brought back after the big site overhaul a couple years ago. I'm glad to see that my original run was very well done in terms of standards and that most of the time improvement came from a trick I didn't know about in level 1. I'm more impressed with the higher score than the 1.5 seconds saved. Did you watch my video to try and find spots of missed targets? My one concern is at the end of level 4. Is the weird jump and pause the procedure for removing the lag frame? I don't think it's worth causing the music to go out at the end of the game. I watched the encode here at work, but I think losing a frame to hear the ending music would be worth it.

I watched your TAS input to see how the game works and what you do and then made a new movie and tried various things (in TAS Editor, I draw routes with mouse) while keeping speed on maximum. The music disabling trick is done by pausing at the end of the level. The jumping doesn't delays the ending despite the position loss (which seems to be because of different memory address used for in-air calculations). Also I never use entertainment tricks if it costs 1 or more frames. This costed 0 frames and can be done without jumping and right after the first stage. But I'm not that evil.
