excatly how many time are you artist going to compete with this game its like kung fu only in kung fu you guys do better than the other by a frame or 2 which is insane but in donkey kong how many more

I'm pretty sure that they're only 2 or 3 frames off the theoretical maximum right now (how fast you could go if there were no enemies). Randomness is based on posistion, nothing that doesn't affect posistion affects randomness. There is no way to change posistion in a non-lossy way except for one or two places in level 2 (which is why level 3 has perfect luck without pausing). So really the only way to speed this movie up would be in 1 (through better luck manipulation). I'm not sure where a frame would be found in level 2. And I don't think that you could make 3 any faster.

Alright, so after looking at the "Things you don't think you'll ever see in a TAS" thread, I noticed one of Bisqwit's posts. Basically he said he wouldn't expect for a hammer to be used in DK. and from this I remembered something that might work to save time in the TAS (Using a hammer). I'm not sure if this works, but from what I remember it should. On the rivets stage: Get a yellow rivet, grab a hammer and drop through the new hole you created. If you hit an enemy at the same time you touch the ground on the level or two below you, you don't die. This may or may not work, but I seem to remember this happening once. Also, if this worked it should definitely save time by just climbing up the left side, getting all the rivets, going to the right side, getting a hammer and dropping down to all the lower rivets on the right side (well, it would require quite a bit of enemy manipulation I guess if it works).

Keep in mind timing differences. I doubt that their timer starts from power-on; it probably starts from the beginning of level 1 (after the jingle plays). Note that that run uses the same strategies as the TAS, but is less precise (pausing for obstacles, having to jump over a barrel).

This is true. Also, no one's investigated my theory yet, not even myself. I seem to remember this glitch being possible (mentioned in the 1st post).

Yeah, this has been achieved IRL by Tom Votava, even he fastforwards like hell in his video to make it interesting! :P And 100% is that you need to finish all 3 of those boards 256 times in a row to get the kill screen I would guess...

From what I have found it does have the kill screen at level 133, so if it was around 1 minute per level, which the current fastest TAS has, it would be 2 hours and 13 minutes of watching the same 3 screens.

Atleast you could do a playaround with my DK glitch which will give you 3000 points for every barrel you jump over!^^ I was a beast racer back in the day. You can get 50000 poinr, just doing the first level twice, lok. Srl sucks.

Don't see the point of doing a 100% run. I'd rather see a high score run on the MAME version. Even then I believe the Japanese version has a glitch which allows you to beat the kill screen.

I showed my dad the tas with the ladder glitch. My dads a seasoned donkey kong player (hes epic at the arcades) and he refused to believe that the ladder glitch was true, even though i conivnced him that tasers dont use hacks cause its against the rules (you know what kind of 'hacks' im talking about). Dont try to convince him that it was real, he understands the way computers work very well, but hes still "the fan" of donkey kong, so you'll never be able to explain it to him -.- he did believe the second and third stages though, saying it was always the path he took, but the first stage, he calls cheating -_-' ... Um, "seasoned" player is the right term, right?

Yes. And show him the controller input on the emulator. Show him the exact buttons to press to make that possible. Then he'll have to believe it.

*facepalm* thats not what i was saying. The reason why he refused to truly believe it was real was his "Donkey Kong Spirit". He wouldnt want to try that glitch either, anyways, hes the type of donkey kong player who plays by the rules. -_- Hes also playED the nes version. What im saying is its his EGO that wont let him believe it -.-

Japanese Old arcade version (that says "HOW HIGH CAN YOU TRY") does have ladder glitch, and it was faithfully ported into Crazy Kong and all it's descendants. In theory, ladder glitch can beat the kill screen, but the screen after would probably be fatal then.

It has been determined that the true kill screen is rivets on versions with the skip glitch, because the following three screens can be beaten rapidly enough.

What is a difference between (JU) and (GC) roms? I played latest TAS movie on Donkey Kong (GC) ROM and it desyncs, and barrel kills Mario after he descends from glitchy ladder at top of the screen in level 1.
