The Virtual Console really going through it with this one... unless it's emulation issues caused by BizHawk/Citra.
Donkey Kong NES needs no introduction, but of course I'm doing something stupid so obviously it's the Virtual Console version on the 3DS.
What's the big deal? Right, input is sluggish, so you can't actually do any of the cool walking, and more importantly, that gif on the right you see there?
Yeah you can't quick turn.
Not much to say besides that Jumpman is tankier than usual due to the hardware itself, unless again Hawk's 3DS emulator needs to be updated.

Tegron: Claiming for judging.

Tegron: This submission is well, optimized for gameplay like in the original NES version, it’s 2 seconds slower, but that’s due to the 3DS framerate compared to the NES, and because any inputs requires nearly 2 frames. However, I’m rejecting this submission, not because of the use of the Virtual Console version, but because of the emulation. The audio playback is really bad due to audio emulation issues via HLE. If we allowed this, we might see more submissions with even worse audio issues. Until there is a way to fix this or add and sync it with LLE, we cannot accept it. The Sega Master System (Tegron: Edit: I mixed up the consoles, it's Game Gear, not Sega Master System) should be fine for now, but this does not apply to NES games or other games from emulated Nintendo consoles at this time
Rejecting

I just listened to the audio (I'm blind, as I've said a lot here), and I think that's an emulator problem, not a hardware one. I've never played this game on the 3DS, but the other VC games I've played or at least listened to are not all choppy like this.

I found a video of real 3DS VC gameplay that doesn't have the choppy audio, which seems to indicate that's an Encore issue. It's pretty weird you have to hold a button for at least 2 frames to do anything in this version, and it's compounded by the same input lag Garfield Kart and Ultimate NES Remix have in the core, and maybe other emulated 3DS games I haven't tested. Azahar, another Citra fork, has been tested to add 2 frames of latency, as in: Frame 0: Press Left and advance frame (while recording) Frame 1: L appears at the top of BizHawk's input display and in the Input Log (in DK VC you have to hold Left an additional frame here) Frames 2-3: Nothing happens, Jumpman still faces right Frame 4: Jumpman turns Left Latency wouldn't matter while TASing (other than making the movie 2 frames longer), but it could be a symptom of a larger issue that also affects Donkey Kong's movement. The last post in that latency issue is from an Azahar dev who confirmed it's a bug with unknown cause.
