Submission Text Full Submission Page
This is a 245 frame improvement on my last submission. The idea of this movie is to show what it is like to use the second controller. It was discussed about having a full length movie but using a password to get to Wily I found was better. There is only a couple levels in which this would be helpful and be entertaining.
The fact that this uses codes/cheats I thought would make people know that this is suppose to be a concept demo movie. Maybe I should have stated that. Also, I say uses cheats because thats what this was stated as doing before. I am not actually using cheats. I am using the second controller. The game had these tricks self built into them, for using the second controller for higher jumps, etc. Yet, this could not be used in a normal run. It was decided on that the second controller would be known as "cheat". Thats where the idea came from, to show what the game would look like and the potential it has.
The difference with this starts at the last room in wily 4. Thanks to Spoony_Bard of reminding me of not switching to save a little time. The Wily 5 boss fight is faster from hitting him quicker. The Wily 6 boss fight is quicker. I found that I could hang in the air with the Hard weapon.
Updated Movie: Redone the refights to make it alot smoother and then saved some time while doing it. Thanks to Adelikat for pointing out the magnetman fight.
Uses FCEU .16, Aims for entertainment, Uses cheats, Concept demo.
Thanks again to Adelikat for some key ideas with the run.

Bisqwit: Submission file replaced (author provided a new one).

Truncated: Because of very bad votes, rejecting. It seems that people do not like the idea of using debug codes or cheats.

What the hell? Do you really think it makes a difference that you write a couple extra sentences in your submission text and improve the movie by a few seconds? This is still a no.

Admitted, it's nice to know how fast MM3 can be beaten with the help of cheats. But still, voting no for cheats. (and thus voting no for this run.) Vatchern, you produce great quality runs, so don't let this discourage you even a bit.
Which run should I encode next? :)

Except, this run uses a password so you don't even know how much time using 2nd controller saves.

I should have calculated this before. It saves 1281 frames. (21 seconds)

Voting no based on what other people have said and unfortunately, it was not entertaining as well. Could not understand a single word what Dr. Light was saying due to the ROM you used. Your audience is mainly a English speaking crowd.

I agree with this. The cheat may be 'built in', but I don't find this run to be more entertaining than a run that doesn't use the second controller.

Since the author didn't describe what the controller 2 input does: (;p) 1) holding right makes megaman jump VERY high which can save a lot time and means less menu switching to rush coil which can be very annoying to watch. 2) Holding right also mean falling into a pit will not kill megamn, he can simply jump back out. Also, getting hit while in a pit depletes megman of his energy but he does not die. This "zombie" megaman can take infinite damage (but not from insta-kills like spikes). Oddly, there is not a single pit in the wily stages :s 3) Holding Up+A freezes sprite animation (not sure exactly how it works). But this is used to freeze the bosses in the refights for major pwnage. It can also prolonge things like megaman's "ouch" animation indefinately and other quirks which are nice to show off. I like this run. It shows off these cool tricks. It also demonstrates the fastest completion possible using only controller input. Using the password is nice because if you are going to "break" the rules with the cheats, why stop there? Use the password too. This has 3 advantageous: 1) Shows a true fastest completion at all costs 2) Differentiates it more from the existing run 3) I am not sure that another 30 minute movie is worth it to demonstrate these tricks. I am voting yes to this run. Things I liked: 1) The clone refight: so fast you didn't even see a single clone 2) The boss refights: poor bastards didn't stand a chance 3) Mega jumping up to ladders: less time watching megaman climb up ladders (which is rather boring). 4) Less switching to rush coil/jet: in the non-cheat run, I find those moments frustrating and break up the momentum of the run. It is nice to be able to just mega-jump instead. Things I didn't like: 1) The lack of pits in the wily stages so you can not show that feature off nor zombie megaman. 2) I would have like to see more playing with the up+a freezing trick where it did not affect time. Like freezing the refill sprite as you are sliding by. Or freezing the boloman in wily1.
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Voting no. Not because of the cheats -- I think use of this cheat could make for a quite entertaining playaround concept demo, but because the cheat weren't used with enough variety, and there was too much focus on getting through the levels quickly, when there should have been some jumping around and doing fun things. In short: Find ways to be more entertaining. Do them no matter how much time it takes. Then submit that.
In other words, making the movie shorter decreases the possibility for entertainment, turning a no into a NO.

I'm amused at how much hatred this run is gathering simply because this run abuses an accidentally left-over debug function. (Do you really think this is a cheat? Think about it.) Especially when you consider that you people are entirely for (and throughly enjoy) runs that completely destroy a game or abuse bugs that are pointless (see also: Zelda 3) without any entertainment at all. While I do think this run should be improved before publication -- some bugs that can result from usage of this trick, like ol' Zombie Meggerman, need to be shown -- I at least enjoyed seeing what can result from this. Oh well. Nesvideos politics never made sense to me.

I think if this run aims for entertainment, then it should not use a password to skip a lot of the game, and it should not aim so primarily for speed either. However I probably would not even be that entertained by that, as MM3 is probably my least favorite of the series.

Ahh, what can be better to vote no on, than a run, showing boss refights for about 1/3 of its length! \o/ Seriously, though, I agree with what JXQ and Upthorn have said. A full run which doesn't use the password would probably be better, IMO. That, and I'm not sure if the 2nd player controller things used in this run are actually cheats.

I actually think that to avoid repetition, using the password was a nice idea. There has never been huge support for a RM3 movie with the 2P input (rather, noticeable opposition), but there has been several requests. This movie is small enough to not compete with the content of the full TAS, yet showcases (some) of the 2P input abilities. Also, I enjoyed watching this TAS. However, my opinion whether it should be published, is somewhat divided. My vote is "meh" with a yes-like tint.

Haven't watched this yet, but the comments are funny so will definitely have to do that. Kinda like Xkeeper, I raise an eyebrow to complaining about a version of a game holding a button down on the secondary controller but praising a run that assumes you broke your controller and can press left and right at the same time. (Now I don't know if the actual people speaking so far have this in common, but I mean in general.) I don't think I'd vote no because of any technical reasons mentioned so far really (though, why (J) :'[ ) so like always, I guess it's whether the movie was enjoyable to watch or not which there are split opinions on so far. One very important thing though is that the submission really, really, really should have included at least what adelikat later posted.

The fact that it uses a password would classify it as a novelty run, but it doesn't have a whole lot of novelty.

I voted no myself. I mean if you had used this controller 2...thing which I think you said is what accounts for the high jumps I might be satisfied on some level but skipping right to the end of the game using a password...anyone can do that... I certainly applaud you for trying, you really seemed to want to entertain us with this. :)

Haven't watched it either, but it's a novelty as the cheats arkanoid run. It only shows the fastest possible completion without changing the game.

I see your point, but there is a big difference between playing style of the movie with the warped arkanoid movie, and the full run (besides the glitch/cheat, every level is warped instead of completed with 3 balls). I think quite a few people here said that there were not enough changes to the regular run megaman 3 run to justify this version, so in that respect, it might not be the best comparison.

There are alot of changes made in this from the full mm3 run. Specifically in the refights. The first wily stage was pretty much the same without having to switch to rush for anything. The second wily stage had a few changes. Not switching to rush, and using Shadow to eliminate those annoying bee's. The Wily2 boss fight waiting changed with some animation delays, but the fight was the same. The third was really similar. The forth, aka, the boss fights, Changed alot. Not any weapon changes, but still complete pwnage. The only refight not changed was shadowman, since he was not affected by the control of controller 2.
a run, showing boss refights for about 1/3 of its length! \o/
The figth stage never changes much, since it is one boss fight, execpt for some animation delays again. The last stage changed. The way that Gamma was killed would be unheard of of being fast, but I was able to maintain in the air while shooting hard-punch. A very different way of killing Gamma. IMO, there were enough changes.

If you disliked the ROM, why did you bother TASing the game using a ROM that you do not like?

Because of you. I said a few times prior to our run that we should switch to the U ROM. Even before when we first ever started to work on mega man 4 and mega man 3, people in IRC also told us we really have absolutely no reason at all to use the J version. After a while, I realized and accepted their points and view while you felt its better to use the J ROM. And one of the reasons why you picked it were due to it had less intro period.
