Mupen runs great but everytime I record an avi and replay it, it just records the sound and no video. Is there a way to fix this?

Have you ever had problems watching the site's avi's? Also, what compression codec are you using?

No the sites avi's work fine and i'm using camstudio lossless codec v1.0. I've also tried using other codecs but they did not work also. I can record on arcade emulators like mame and HK²V9. Just not mupen for some reason

Did you select it when it asked you for the video codec? If so, then maybe you set the bitrate too high, sometimes it won't work properly (for me) if bitrate is more than 3000 kbps.

Use x264. It's much better than Xvid. I doubt best results are your main concern at the moment so just set it to 200 and execute.

You can't record an avi in mupen with x264, you have to first record to some other format and then recompress with x264.

i did select it when i chose to record avi and it still didnt work. Even if i put full frames uncompressed it still doesnt work. It records the sound fine but it's jsut a black screen instead of the video.

Hmm ... for some reason I have x264.exe on my comp but it doesn't show up in Mupen's video codecs list. Did you install it as part of mencoder or something?

1. When recording do you get any video in the emulator? 2. Tried a different video plugin? 3. Tried redownloading mupen? All I can think of.

Which OS are you using? If it's Vista that may explain it. I've heard that there are AVI problems with it. That's about all I can think of. LG - It sounds like you downloaded the CLI version. You need to download and install the GUI version and it should show.

How come when I try to capture something in Mupen using x264 it just causes Mupen to crash and then to completely shutdown, it seems to work fine with other emulators.

While this may very well be your problem, in order for this to be the case I think you would have had to have the original release to manufacturer Vista (e.g one of the first batch). I was one of those (un)lucky people. :) There are ways around it ranging from copying files from XP x64 to doing odd environment variable things if you're desperate. Edit: my post on a similar problem if you're interested: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5437

Which one would you recommend? I've tried megui before but it breaks down for vids longer than 20 min, on my comp.

I'm using r565, which is about 8 months out of date. It's served me well, but you'd have a tough time finding it. The latest is r655 so you should try that, it's on the page I linked to. However, if it still doesn't work it'll probably be down to your computer. I've found x264 to be quite tempermental at times.

There are four files on that page available for download. The first two are CLIs the second two are GUIs.

is that a question or a statement?

Strangely enough the last link leads to a new page with a whole list of codecs, the actual gui took quite a bit of searching before finding it.

How can I make the x264 codec to show in Mupen? I have downloaded and installed MeGUI but it doesn't show. I also have .NET Framework 2.0, AviSynth 2.5 and x264.exe.
