About this run

This run is an improvement of 5,103 frames (85 seconds) over the published Super Metroid run. Once again I aim for real time, as opposed to in-game time. In-game clock’s final time is 24:16. Cpadolf’s recently submitted run is 30 seconds faster on the in-game clock, but is 90 seconds slower in real time. The real time oriented route I designed for this run eliminates backtracking and excessive item collecting. The only noticeably slower parts compared to the in-game run are the Ridley and Mother Brain battles, due to skipping the plasma beam.
Instead of mentioning all the improvements I have made to the run here, please refer to this excel file for a complete breakdown. Special thanks to JXQ for the original excel spreadsheet, from which I copied his formulas and followed his tips for many of the rooms in the run.

Thanks to the following Super Metroid runners & researchers

  • Catnap
  • Cpadolf
  • Evilchen
  • Frenom
  • Graveworm
  • Jecy
  • JXQ
  • Kejardon
  • Kriole
  • Michael Flatley
  • Moozooh
  • OgreSlayer
  • Saturn
  • Taco
  • Terimakasih
  • Tonski
My run would not be as precise as it is without the help of memory watch and Gocha’s memory watch tool.
Special thanks to DeHacked’s microstorage system for hosting many of my test runs.
Enjoy the run!

I will also agree that his run is more entertaining overall. I should know, I designed both my route and his route.
Strange. Seems like I could somehow foresee Cpadolf's in-game route in my old any% way before you "designed" it. Must be some magical power, it seems...

that's amazing how you detailed every single item he should get and in what order... kinda like I did over at Metroid 2k2. But please, feel free to prove me wrong ;) edited: For those who really care, here is where I posted my entire in-game route strategy. here Saturn just typed "Phantoon > Draygon > Kraid > Ridley" as his route. How on earth does that constitute a route? There are exactly 100 items along the way which he failed to mention. I specifically mentioned all details of the entire run.

The best item collection order is obvious in this route, and I listed (and obviously used in my any% way before that already) it in m2k2 as well when Cpadolf asked for it (see a couple post below in hero's link). Of course you likely got the same route independently of me, being a excellent route designer in general, but there is no need to hide the actual history of this route.

Start > Middle > End My route kicks all yours asses. EDIT: And before anyone beats me to it, for a glitched run it goes Start > End. Massive creds for me.

Saturn, Okay fair enough. And yes I got the route independently of you, since you never posted the exact items you would be collecting. Maybe it is kinda "obvious" to us which items to get, but some people might not know. A lot of the stuff I factored into the route did require basic timing and testing. I know you may have been the original designer, but I figured the route out on my own and was the first to make it public.

Actually I designed it long before he did too. Props to me, btw. Sarcasm aside, you didn't design him a route Saturn. You gave him a boss order.

Hey, I designed the placement of CDs on my shelf. And you bet I was the first.

Hero: Yeah, you were the first to make a almost optimal in-game route public. The only flaw I could see in it was getting the Kraid E-Tank, which as suggested a few posts later (and seen in Cpadolf's run), is faster to skip in any case here.

You guys see what Saturn's presence does? (PJ Boy are you reading this?) It's not just his own attitude, it's that his demeanor is causing the other Super Metroid TASers, even someone as cool and rational as hero of the day, to argue about who discovered a fucking route. Are you joking me? Is this SDA's Ocarina of Time thread? You guys see what his presence does? Thanks for helping the forum suck, Saturn. I hope you get banned some day for being such a selfish prick.

The argument is closed, thanks to someone as cool and rational as hero of the day. Take a example of his attitude, JXQ.

Another way to close the argument is to not start it in the first place, and avoid drawing everyone else into your irrelevant bickering about who gets credit for what. (This is accomplished by you not being a huge cockwand. Try it!)

Does every single post I make need a damn footnote? TASvideos collective memory is pretty short-term. Post where you talk about the positive effects of his attitude

JXQ: It's seems you have encountered your own final boss, and, from the looks of it, you're losing the fight. I'm talking about you're signature, of course. No, seriously. Saturn may have the occasional prideful outburst, but the way you're harboring a grudge against him and everyone who decides to take a more forgiving outlook on his behavior suggests that you are having a greater pride issue. Stop it, please. TASVideos needs less of this kind of vitriol.

Indeed, that is an impressive route you've got there! I believe there exists no run that uses that route yet, even though there are a quite a few interesting routes presented at TASvideos: START -> END START -> MIDDLE START -> MIDDLE -> START -> MIDDLE START -> MIDDLE -> START -> MIDDLE -> SOMEWHERE -> SOMEWHERE ELSE -> END END <- MIDDLE <- START END

While it is true that JXQ occasionally overreacts to things, I have never seen him take offense at something that wasn't offensive to begin with, and I agree with him completely about Saturn. Though I think that, at this point, its best to drop it until the next time Saturn says something totally out of line. Especially since, as seen here:

JXQ: As much unbelievable as it may sound to you, please don't forget there are actually people around who don't have mental problems like you seem to have with me. To clarify, the thing with the route wasn't really a argument in the first place, I just felt to note the actual facts about it to avoid confusion for those who might be new to SM-TASing. If you disagree for whatever reason with that, thats fine (what else would you expect from JXQ), but there is no need to spam the forums trying to push your somewhat sick view about my style into everybody else. That is indeed just worthless and unnecessary bickering. Remember, people can have different opinions on things, so just accept that, like they accept you.

Tried that one. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6512&start=0 I find the plot to the latest Metroid Prime game kinda ironic now. Something that at first made Samus do things amazing things, backfires and ends up Corrupting everything, making her and her fellow hunters fight, and ultimately will cause the death of the galaxy. One hopes, as in the game, this 'corruption' will be removed before that happens. I know I am less bothered about visiting the site these days. Oh and hey, loved the runs hero and Cpadolf.

It seems that it took only slightly over 1 hour from your post for him to do exactly that:
