Comments

The rom version I used is (V1.4). I tried to play it on other versions, and it didn't work. So try to find the right version to watch the movie.
This game is an old, simple one that I played when I was 3 :) It's not hard to beat through it without tools. But when you aim for perfection, it becomes much harder.
Every time you hit the enemy, it has a short invincible time. Ideally, you can hit the enemy every 65 frames. It takes 9 hits to pass one level.
But you can't always reach the 65 frame limit. When you hit the enemy, it may start running away very fast, which prevents you from reaching it within the next 65 frames. So I intentionally waited for some frames, to make the sequential hits easier. The enemies in each stage have different AI, and their actions are not randomized. I included "manipulates luck" in the aims, although it is playing with AI rather than luck.

Stage by stage comments

Stage 1: WANG

Stage 1 starts at frame 210. By jumping at WANG at frame 211, I got the 1st hit. But if I go straight for the 2nd hit, WANG will run away, and the 3rd hit will be much harder. So I waited for a few frames to get the 2nd hit. The rest hits are achieved with small adjustments.
Hit Frame Interval
1 251
2 325 74
3 390 65
4 455 65
5 520 65
6 586 66
7 651 65
8 716 65
9 781 65

Stage 2: TAO

Stage 2 starts at frame 1405. This stage is basically the same with Stage 1.
Hit Frame Interval
1 1447
2 1519 72
3 1584 65
4 1649 65
5 1714 65
6 1781 67
7 1846 65
8 1911 65
9 1976 65

Stage 3: CHEN

Stage 3 starts at frame 2600. CHEN's AI is a little different. He prefers stay away and attack.
Hit Frame Interval
1 2642
2 2707 65
3 2772 65
4 2837 65
5 2908 71
6 2973 65
7 3038 65
8 3103 65
9 3174 71

Bonus Stage

Bonus Stage starts at frame 3852. I tried my best to hit the 10th as early as possible. But I don't know whether you can do better.

Stage 4: LANG

Stage 4 starts at frame 4791. LANG's 1st hit can't be performed with the jump attack tactic. I jumped at her, and attacked (missed) in the air to make her run right.
Hit Frame Interval
1 4853
2 4918 65
3 4983 65
4 5048 65
5 5113 65
6 5178 65
7 5243 65
8 5308 65
9 5373 65

Stage 5: MU

Stage 5 starts at frame 5997. MU is big and simple.

1 6038
2 6107 69
3 6172 65
4 6237 65
5 6302 65

mmbossman: This game has received lackluster feedback on all three of its submissions, and the entertainment potential for a speed based run seems to not be very good. Rejecting.

Baxter: Accepting for publication to the Vault.

Nicely done, though it's a little lacking in entertainment. Standing in roughly one spot and watching the idiot AI bounce back and for into you without attacking was not too fascinating and the bonus round was rather lackluster and unspectacular, but in comparison to Bisqwit's previous runs, the technical precision is undeniable. Good run, very short, but still didn't see a lot of variety for entertainment.

I guess it's possible to achieve variety without losing a single frame, but I can be wrong. EDIT: Hmm, 5.5 for Entertainment. It looks repetetive. However it's short enough to avoid being fast-forwarded.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

You are right. I tried to improve it, without success. Every time I get a hit, the scene stops for a while, and that just leave me less than 30 frames each hit to create art... Jumping attack looks cool, but it's always a waste of frames, even with the killing blow... I guess I can do something about the bonus round, but without improving the main part, that doesn't mean much...

I guess you may try jump-killing an opponent when you'll have to spend some frames in manipulating the next opponent. EDIT: In fact, to waste some frames earlier for variety may help you to save some frames later.

As I said, the game is not randomized in fact. Frames wasted in the 1st level won't come back in the 2nd level. I tried a lot of jumping and failed...

So, have we reached the conclusion that this game is not suited for a speed-oriented TAS due to lack of entertainment and no improvements that can be made to help this? EDIT: However, some less entertaining movies have been accepted before. This one may be given the chance if either judges don't consider accepting those as a mistake, or they just don't care about repeating that. EDIT 2: Well, this movie is not so bad. EDIT 3: With my 5.5/9.5 this movie can be considered. lol

The game itself impressed me much more than the movie. Unfortunately it does not have a proper ending. I also watched Bisqwit's run, and it was more entertaining than this one, but not by much.
