  • Takes damage to save time

mmbossman: Horrible game, and it doesn't make a very good TAS either. Rejecting.

Noxxa: Judging in consideration of the vault.
Noxxa: Even though it technically is an incomplete run, this is as far as a playthrough can get from the start, on a legitimate version. Accepting for the vault.
A TAS on the hacked version of the game (as shown in the thread), that fully finishes the game, may obsolete this run.
Brandon: Publication underway.

It surprises me a little that this game isn't glitchy enough to zip through the floor really fast, or something similarly retarded.

Most fangames are much better than official games. For one, because people who program fangames usually are the same people who break official games to hell, so they know the best direction to take to solve a problem. edit: encoded.

Nice improvement to 2-1! Although you seem to have missed out on what I was talking about. I apologize: I should have provided an FCM. So here it is. The thing I'm doing is waiting some frames before falling so the wolf passes underneath me so I don't have to punch it. Still, you're improvement is more significant than my find. Good eye.

NES TAS of 2013
I couldn't understand what you meant. I should have confirmed it too. Ok,I'll re-doing.But I won't submit it because the vision seems hardly to be changed. Instead of I'll upload vid on youtube with fcm. I decided not to upload level 5,6 on youtube. Because Aries reminds full HP after patcing ips.

What you could do is update the FCM and ask one of the admins to update the submission itself. It's not unheard of.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/893554188/was0x-Cheetahmen%202%20v3.fcm 10 frames saved. I didn't use Ferret Warlord's idea around frame 4500. It's impossible for me to avoid Hyena,if I use it.(around frame 5150) As a result,1 frame slower. But I used your idea around frame 6100. Here is the improvement point. Would you like to replace previous fcm by present fcm? Edit Thanks for telling,Ferret. Anyway,My new record is 2:20.10,2:20.27 was old.

Works for me. I see no other probable improvement. Now just PM Bisqwit or adelikat; they'll take care of it. Anyway, Youtube of latest version! 171 frames faster than my attempt. Nice. I would greatly enjoy seeing this get published. [ib]Edit:[/i] Aw. >:/

It looks like someone finally fixed The Cheetahmen II so that it's finishable. Here's the link to the article. http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2011/08/at_last_cheetahmen_ii_is_finis.php The article also says that a rare glitch allows you to advance until you reach the final boss, which due to another bug never appears.
No.

It seems this glitch involves repeatedly resetting the game - the glitch probably occurs due to uninitialized variables in the NES RAM, something that wouldn't be doable in (deterministic) emulators. That said, it seems like a better option to TAS that hack though, rather than this 'partial' run we have here.

It seems like this is a good run for the Vault, as long as it represents was0x's latest improvement. That's the problem with TASes of bad games; usually, the author will realize that the run won't get accepted and decide not to include improvements he/she has found. This run might not be optimal.

That run does look quite nice. But I think it means I should reject this one, in favor of the 'full' run. I don't think there's any reason to publish a partial run when there's a full game version (hack), which also has a TAS made already.

Rejecting a run of original games in favor of that of hacks. That seems weird to me, though I understand original game is very crappy and that hack is only intended to fix bugs.

If we ever get a submission fro the hack version, I would be in favor of obsoletion. It would mean obsoleting an official run with a hack, and putting a hack into the vault. But this is a very unusual situation and think in this specific case, it is warranted. I do think accepting is the correct decision here. Generally, I don't like the idea of rejecting based on some hypothetical submission .

IIRC, after a reset you will sometimes begin at level 5. A run of the "legit" version can still play all 6 levels then if you can manipulate the game to start at level 5 on a reset after you beat the first 4 levels. :D

Except that can't happen in any rerecording emulator.

I thought one of the newer emulators had reset support? Am I just imagining that? :(

It isn't an issue of Hard Reset support. It is the issue that accessing the higher levels involves resetting until the randomized values in uninitialized ram is such that it allows access to those levels. Any rerecording emulator is going to have a deterministic (same pattern every time) initialization and thus either not allow this behavior, or ALWAYS allow it.
