Wardner is a classical save-the-princess-platform released on arcade in 1987 and converted to Genesis in 1991. In NA arcade version of Wardner was known as Pyros.
Movie features:
  • Emulator used: Gens 11a
  • Takes damage to save time
WEAPONS and ITEMS
Magic of the Stars: 1.500 - Wavy shot
Magic of the Moon: 2.000 - Looping shot
Magic of the Sun: 3.000 - Shoots a line of flames
Magical Cape: 300 - Saves your life once
Needle and Thread: 200 - Saves your life once (only if you have the cape)
Magical Clock: 300: - We don't actually need more time in TASes
Small Orb - 16 of these adds 1 to your weapon power (number of flames on screen at a time)
Large Orb - This orb adds 1 to your weapon power, to the max of 8
Money Bag - Adds 50 to your gold
Treasure Chest - Adds 200 to your gold

0:18 - Jumping off vines gives a 2-3 frame boost
2:21 - Fairy can damage most enemies in the game and makes it possible to walk through some bosses
2:30 - Aqfaq found that the door opens for 1 frame when the dragon is killed. This skips the spider boss and saves about 13 seconds.
2:50 - Killing the bee gives an ocarina which summons a phoenix
3:17 - This walk-through-a-boss technique enabled by fairy was found by Aqfaq
3:19 - It's time to buy the best weapon in the game
3:25 - I can't go up the first stairs because it's booby trapped
3:30 - The second fairy would add only 31 frames to time, but I didn't find use for it
3:46 - Large orb would add 117 frames but the benefit is much smaller
6:40 - Large orb would add 41 frames but the benefit is much smaller
7:58 - This is the spider that I should have fought at the end of 2nd level, but used a glitch to escape it. Well, I didn't want to fight it here either
8:30 - Skipping spider and worm colors the big golem pink
8:35 - The room above final boss is randomized by the frame you enter it. I got the second fastest enemy which was 9 frames slower than the fastest enemy 29 wait-frames further ahead
Thanks to Aqfaq for sharing his cancelled WIP (first 2 minutes), for finding the glitches and for monitoring the progress!

FractalFusion: Perhaps it's gameplay limitation, but whatever it is, the run doesn't look well-executed, and is slow. I'm rejecting the run.

adelikat Unrejecting this submission for consideration into the Vault tier
FractalFusion: I remember this submission being borderline for game choice when first judging it. Now that it satisfies the criteria for Vault, I will accept this submission for Vault publication.

Man, this game looks like it should've been called Little Fat Riding Hood. This moves fairly slowly. There are some difficult jumps, and the boss skipping is pretty cool (pink golem), but the play ends up feeling pretty bland. Meh vote, leaning towards Yes.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

Thanks for the co-author status. :) I was entertained and my vote is positive. The run uses a good health/money/weapon plan and skips 5 bosses. Some bosses even resemble reptiles, so they are probably related to dinosaurs. That must be the reason why a few of them got COLORED! Good work! Funnily, some people might remember this forgettable game for the lady whose body bursts as she transforms into a giant spider (the coolest boss in the game). It is never seen in the movie, because it is skipped (twice!). You can hear the giant spider shooting fireballs off-screen near the end of the movie, though.

Thanks for the encode, Velitha! That was enjoyable. The protagonist is surprisingly agile given his appearance. Gameplay was solid and showed off some nice skips. Good work!

Question: Wouldn't it look better if you avoid bumping into the corners during jumping? That would be one of the few situations where wobbling is not bad. Comment: My comment is insufficient. Status: Lack of useful comments. Verdict: T.B.D.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

Oh boy, it's another generic stroll-around-in-no-particular-hurry platformer, of the sort that even maTO's technical competence can't make look very interesting. I give this a meh.
