Movie projects
What kind of TASes am I interested in making?
- Awesome games: Very good games suited for TASing.
- Bad games: Movies are unlikely to be submitted here, though.
- Challenging games: Including complicated games that are very hard to TAS.
- More games: OK.
- Weird games: No comments.
Currently I have 6 NES movies, 1 FDS movie, 1 GB movie and 4 GBA movies published.
One of them is team-worked.
- NES Jackal (U) "single-player run" in 07:25.98
- Thanks to moozooh's comments, I improved the unsubmitted movie and submitted it here.
- This movie happened to be the 2000th submission at this site!
- NES Journey to Silius (U) in 09:32.03
- The run published had its 5th level redone for improving entertainment without gaining or losing any frames.
- So, just watch the boogie boy dancing to the music!
- NES Kage (J) (aka. Shadow of the Ninja) in 09:48.32
- This movie was TASed with the Japan version.
- My first TAS submitted in this site. Had it been rejected, it would apparently have been my last TAS made and submitted here, if not everywhere.
- This movie can be improved, according to xipo.
- NES Little Samson (U) "warped run" in 10:13.27
- This movie was glitched out.
- I decided to make this simply because I had discovered the glitches which I thought would be entertaining.
- And I was right about this.
- NES Super Mario Bros. (JU PRG0) "warped run" in 04:57:33
- The improvements are very marginal.
- This movie appears "much" shorter than the previous one thanks to a different length calculation.
- The improvements are very marginal.
- FDS Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) "Mario warped run" in 08:09.23
- This is an FDS movie.
- This movie can be improved, in theory.
- See relevant forum topics or IRC quotes for more information.
- GB Ninja Gaiden Shadow (U) in 11:28.97[7]
- Old WIP (Stage-3 completed).
- This game seems to be a mixture of Shadow of the Ninja and Ninja Gaiden.
- This game seems to be synchronized on both VBAR v19 and VBAR v20, amazingly.
- GBA Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow (U) in 06:52.08/06:51.96/06:46.20
- The published movie is the latest revison in 06:46.20.
- These movies were all glitched out.
- I was very very lucky when I was TASing the first run.
- Then later, I wasn't so lucky anymore, and the re-recording count grew insanely.
- GBA Castlevania - Harmony of Dissonance (U) "Maxim warped" in 00:23.63/00:23.58
- The movie in 00:23.58 is published.
- This movie was glitched out.
- Credits to zggzdydp for his great discovery.
- GBA Castlevania - Harmony of Dissonance (U) "Juste warped" in 11:13.12
- This movie was glitched out.
- Lots of credits to ljffdb2 for massive helps.
- GBA Megaman Zero 4 (U) in 37:07.48
- This movie abuses no glitch!
- I don't consider either corner-boost or invulnerability-exploitability as a glitch.
- This movie abuses no glitch!
1 NES movie at the moment.
- NES Nuts & Milk "warpless run" in 14:21:30[7]
- Go & vote!
- The length is hard to tell due to inconstant calculation of .fm2 timing.
These runs are either obsolete or not even submitted for some reasons. A few of them aren't available at the moment for various reasons.
- NES Jackal (USA) "single-player run" in 07:26.03
- Link not found[6].
- I determined that this run would be rejected even though it was 10 seconds faster than the published movie because I only used one controller in this movie.
- NES Super Mario Bros. (JU PRG0) "warped run" in 04:58.18
- Obsoleted by my [1330] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by klmz in 04:57.33.
- I prove that the flagpole-stuck glitch could indeed save time.
- NES Super Mario Bros. (JU PRG0) "warped run" in 04:58.53[2]
- Obsoleted by my [1080] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by klmz in 04:58.18.
- It's said that even "perfect movies" can be improved.
- Here's Bisqwit's Christmas present for Mario fans.
- GBA Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow (U) "Julius Boss Rush Test" in "02:45.26"
- Link not found[6]
- Very unoptimized test run.
- GBA Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow (U) "Boss Rush as Soma" in "01:09.83"/"01:09.80"/"01:08.80"/"01:08.71"
- Links not found[6]
- Aimed for fastest in-game time instead of real time.
- I believe "Soma Mode 01:08.71" was the WR for non-glitched BR at that time.
- Glitching the BR could bring down the in-game time under 42 seconds, while the entertainment would certainly suffer a lot.
- GBA Castlevania - Harmony of Dissonance (???) "Maxim warped run" in ??:??.??
- Link not found[6].
- Aims for lowest completion as fast as possible.
- Uses a very different warping route.
- My very first TAS, even before I knew this site.
- GBA Lode Runner (J) "Small World"
- No one except alden, mmbossman, Mr. Kelly R. Flewin and maybe MUGG as well has shown interest in it, so I am not going to submit the latest movie.
- Old WIP with 12/24 Small World levels completed is available for comparison.
- Bonus: Reset and try out my edited first 2 levels!
Apparently some.
- DS Castlevania - Portrait of Ruin (U) "no border-suspend glitch"
- Cooperated with ljffdb2.
- Other details unknown.
TODO: Update the info.
- NES Duck Tales 2 (U) "good ending"
- 15% completed.[6]
- I don't know if this run would be great as Adelikat has made a similar-looking "bad ending" run.
- NES Krion Conquest, The (U)
- Cancelled.[6]
- I don't think only a few frames shaved off the published movie will be great enough. I won't bother with this unless I find some new tricks.
- NES Super Robin Hood
- 10% completed.[6]
- A game boring to watch.
- NES Hard Relay Mario (SMB Hack)
- Project cancelled.
- A hack that isn't suited for TASing.
- SNES "100 CDs" Rockman & Forte (J)
- Once again, I cancelled a run simply due to a nearly flawless submission by others.
- SNES Young Merlin (U)[7]
- GG In the Wake of the Vampire (JUE)[7]
- Cancelled.[6]
- This game is a Castlevania-clone. Its SMS verion is called Master of Darkness. It is weird that the BGM in SMS version plays slower and thus worse than in the GG version.
Emulator projects
GBA Emulators
For some reasons, I have no access to my old works at the moment.
- VBA-rr
- I contributed a little to it.
- The source codes of VBA are not clean enough for me to get what the coders thought. Maybe VBAM is better to start with.
- VBARL
- VBARL = VisualBoyAdvance Rerecording + Link. It was only an experimental project and not supposed to provide supports for (re-)recoding, replaying or encoding linked movies by design.
- However, in theory, it might be already capable of (re-)recording, replaying and even encoding linked movies, with extra-ordinary efforts by the player(s), audience and/or encoders to manually synchronize the emulation.
- Abandoned.
- Interesting fact: Only one individual (definitely not I) in the world has occasionally obtained an internal build of it.
- VBALR
- VBALR = VisualBoyAdvance Link + Rerecording. It is supposed to support rerecoding, replaying and encoding linked movies.
- Not functioning.
- Restarted?
- Just don't expect it finished. Nor much time for it, neither much interest in it.
Footnotes
[6] These movies don't have links to them because I've never submitted them anywhere. Some of them don't meet the requirements here. And even more unfortunately, some have been lost for ever due to an HDD-breakdown. Still, it may be possible to find some of them "spoiled". I may submit some of them somewhere sometime.
[7] These games only receives input every other frame, which could be annoying.
