Here we have an impressive hack put together by Stealth, placing Knuckles into Sonic the Hedgehog 1. The game has been discussed here a bit, but you can find its official topic at the Sonic 2 Beta message board. All of Knuckles' abilities are preserved and are true to the feel of playing as Knuckles in other Sonic games with LOCK-ON TECHNOLOGY.
I worked on this run and my Sonic run concurrently. The games were similar enough that doing them together helped keeped things fresh in my mind, yet different enough that it didn't get too repetitive.
I suggest watching the Sonic run first before this one, because the Sonic run shows how the game was meant to be played before watching this run break that mold.

Points of Interest:
Green Hill 3 - The bottom route after the speed shoes does get to the boss faster, but not being able to hit him right away more than negates this difference.
Labyrinth 2 & 3 - Releasing the button while sliding on the ground gives a pause, which gets the ball rolling for some nice zipping action.
Scrap Brain 1 - Sonic's route with the zipping is quite a bit slower than the route taken here (Thanks to Ouzo for this route).
Thanks to:
Upthorn, again, for going above and beyond helping with Gens memory watching and even coding a special version for use in this run. He also pointed out several improvements since he knows Knuckles TASing quite well.
Ouzo, for a quality completed run of this game that I could compare myself against.
Nitsuja, for showing me some basics about Knuckles and spin-dash in the first level, and for showing me a faster method for Green Hill 2.
Enjoy the run!
Bisqwit: Submission file replaced from author's supply.
adelikat: This hack has been "officially" approved and the run is of pubishing quality. Accepting for publication.
adelikat: Delayed while author attempts improvements.
Truncated: Setting back to accepted, see thread for details.
Now that I have seen it...I'm glad I voted no. Have my own reasons for it.
For one, there shouldn't be any spin dashing AKA Spinning in place for a build-up of speed. The original Sonic 1 didn't have that.
Second, skipped probably around a third of the game. The Levels are pretty much one of the best parts of the game for me. Green Hill Zone 2, All of Marble Zone, and Labyrinth Zone 3. Probably forgot some, but the run lost my interest after Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone.
Just wasn't a lot of fun to watch.
The new Abilities are what kept me from enjoying it so...Nothing I can do about that.
EDIT: The Abilities and everything I mentioned before from my last post are what lost my interest. ;3
You are joking, right?
The run was intended to be as fast as possible, and skipping those parts is part of its process. Abusing glitches to make it even faster is also way more entertaining than solidly playing levels that we already know what they're made of and how to beat them.
I can't seem to find a submission you did not vote "NO". Maybe you aren't hanging to the right site.
Kitsune, if this run is boring to you, maybe you'd enjoy watching the Sonic run more. However, I encourage you to at least watch it before voting no. Thanks.

Easy Yes vote. A very nice compliment to your Sonic Run. Very fun to watch, and many glitches and techniques are used flawlessly to take the shortest route. This Hack is very well designed, too
JXQ, I did already watch the run, and that was my input about it, thanks for reading my other posts before-hand. ;3
And there is nothing wrong with me for wanting MORE entertainment, which this run clearly did not deliver for me.
And 1ntru, there are a few I have voted yes on, maybe you just haven't been reading through them very well.
And I disagree that glitching through a game makes it more entertaining. Just takes away for me.
He said that you might like the plain vanilla Sonic run, but if you want to vote on it, you should watch it first.
When you voted no on this, you commented saying that you voted "no" because you couldn't watch the run. Which means that you voted before you watched. Hence the instruction applies.
How fleeting are all human passions compared with the massive continuity of ducks.
I have no problem with a "no" vote. But I, and everyone else who submits runs, probably agrees that it's a disservice to vote no (or yes) without watching a run. Even if you would have voted no after having watched it, it still does matter because you're not able to answer the voting question if you haven't watched it.
In the future, you may want to make sure you only vote after watching the run, and vote on the run's entertainment factor rather than the journey you had looking for the ROM. I have trouble believing you didn't already know this because you've been registered here longer than I have.
Anyway, sorry you didn't like this one; glad you liked the other one. Thanks for the input. Hollers.

EDIT ------------
There's a thread linked directly in the submission message says exactly where to find it -- the thread linked has a direct link to it in the very first line of the post.
Just because you can't be bothered to open your eyes doesn't mean you should punish the creator of this movie.
------------------
By that logic, Demo World: TLC shouldn't use any of the SMB3-style pipes, or the gray question blocks, or (indeed) play any level at all, or even start the game.
It's called a hack for a reason. It adds new content to a game, and not using it defeats the entire purpose of playing it.
And this, of course, is an opinion, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Hum seems like it was only some impression, I got a second watch to the game, sometime the speed seems to slow down near Spring Yard 3 and I wonder if it would be possible to fly a little more to skip one or two slow down to spin dash near the end.
But I'm not an expert, I can be totally wrong.
I'm not sure which part you are referring to, but near the beginning is played a little strange because you can't glide above the screen. I also couldn't get Knuckles to make it to the slanted platform without jumping (and thus, losing a lot of the spin dash speed).
If there's a different part, let me know. Give me the in-level time so I'm sure which part you're talking about. :)

6:05 Near this place, it seems that your speed slow down a lot when you jump while you have the invincibility. I don't know if gliding whould be been faster, or posssible at this point.
